Pongr Poised to Help Brands Monetize Consumer Photos Shared On Social Networks...and Beyond
Leading photo-marketing platform, Pongr acquires broad IP portfolio from Sightec, to transform the way brands identify and engage with photo-minded consumers
BOSTON, Feb. 25, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Photos are king when it comes to social media, with 56% of internet users sharing photos or video online, according to a recent Pew Internet study. However even the largest brands and technology players struggle to monetize the pictures people post to places like Twitter, Facebook®, Instagram, tumblr and Pinterest. Leading photo-marketing platform, Pongr is today announcing a game-changing acquisition of a broad IP portfolio from Sightec, an Israeli computer vision R&D company, a deal designed to alter the way brands leverage the ever-expanding amount of photos shared around the world.
Cementing category leadership while significantly expanding Pongr's current IP and software product suite, the move enables Pongr to offer breakthrough image enhancing and analysis solutions that can detect people and objects within images at groundbreaking new levels. These solutions will help brands uncover highly relevant advertising and marketing opportunities, gain actionable consumer insights, and create opportunities for instant social and mobile engagement with consumers.
"Billions of photos are shared by consumers every month, many of which contain brands or products consumers love or want, yet they remain one of the most underutilized and non-monetized aspects of marketing, especially within the social and mobile space," said Pongr CEO and Co-founder Jamie Thompson. "The addition of Sightec's world-class scientists and technology will enable us to unlock huge value hidden within photos at tremendous scale and accuracy and give brands engagement opportunities they've never had before."
Originally developed for military security camera systems, Sightec's super-resolution technology is capable of improving image quality 10X over typical image enhancement results. It can also detect people and objects within images regardless if they are in the foreground or background. This level of detection requires only 3-5 pixels vs. the 400+ required by competitive systems in use today. These significant advantages are achieved through Sightec's mathematical approach to super-resolution, a contrarian position within the field of computer vision. Pongr will be tuning the technology to make it work for brands and products, and adapting the subpixel registration capabilities for wide-scale brand image detection.
When applied to the Pongr platform, the technology becomes especially potent for matching mobile and desktop advertisements with the contextual relevance of photos consumers take with their mobile devices and share across social networks. The technology will immediately be factored into Pongr's existing direct-response photo marketing platform, increasing the ability to detect the presence of brands, sentiment and sharability.
"We look forward to helping the world's top brands leverage the power of pictures and videos through the use of Pongr. Our technology paired with the Pongr platform can 'see' brands and products within photos that in the past may have been deemed undetectable because the items were either out of the photo's focal point or the overall image quality was too poor," said Sightec CEO Dr. Joseph Francos. Dr. Francos will assume the role of Chief Computer Vision Scientist at Pongr.
Pongr will begin offering the new Sightec technology as part of its direct-response marketing platform immediately. Terms of the deal were undisclosed.

Based in Boston, Pongr is the leading photo marketing platform for the visual world.Through the use of patented image recognition technology, we unlock the value within consumer-shared photos and videos and transform it into actionable intelligence and instant social and mobile engagement opportunities. Sony Launches Three Powerful New Cyber-shot(TM) Cameras for Capturing all the Action
New Models Include World's Smallest and Lightest 20x Optical Zoom Compact (WX300), Impressive 50x Mega Zoom Model (HX300) and World's Lightest Waterproof Compact (TX30)
SAN DIEGO, Feb. 25, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Sony is expanding the range and versatility of its Cyber-shot(TM) compact camera line with the introduction of three new "Exmor R" CMOS sensor equipped models - the WX300, HX300 and TX30 cameras.
Each of the new models features a unique, innovative design and a range of improved imaging technologies that make is easier than ever to capture the decisive action in all types of shooting environments ranging from low-light to outdoor scenes, underwater adventures and everything in between.
Cyber-shot WX300 Ultra-Compact Camera
The slim, super-stylish Cyber-shot WX300 camera is the world's smallest and lightest digital still camera that packs a powerful 20x optical zoom range(1).
A perfect pocket-sized travel partner, the WX300 camera features a high-quality Sony G Lens that handles wide-angle landscapes, portraits and dramatic close-ups with ease. It also has Optical SteadyShot(TM) image stabilization, which dramatically reduces the effect of hand shake and ensures crisp, blur-free still images. Image stabilization during zoom has been greatly improved and is about twice as effective(2) compared to previous 20x optical zoom Sony cameras. It's enhanced by Active Mode, which ensures that handheld movies look smooth and steady at all zoom ratios.
Autofocus on the new WX300 camera has also been improved compared to its predecessors, and is now about 3.6x(3) faster than previous models. Battery life has also been boosted, as the new model packs enough stamina to shoot up to 500 photos (CIPA measurement) from a single charge.
The new WX300 camera has built-in Wi-Fi capabilities, utilizing Sony's PlayMemories(TM) Mobile application, available for both Android and iOS app platforms, to wirelessly transfer photos and videos to a connected smartphone or tablet. It also allows a connected device to be used as a handy wireless remote to control the camera - ideal for self-portraits and group shots where the photographer wants to be included. Still images stored in the camera can also be viewed wirelessly on a networked TV.
Cyber-shot HX300 High Zoom Camera
With a stylish DSLR-style design and handling, the power-packed Cyber-shot HX300 offers photographers long-zoom capabilities in a compact, versatile package. Featuring a huge 50x optical zoom range (24mm-1200mm equivalent) - among the highest for any compact camera - the Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T* lens covers a wide range of shooting possibilities, from holidays and safari trips to sports and outdoor concerts. The T* coating on lens surfaces cuts reflections and 'flare', while Super ED and ED glass elements minimize chromatic aberration for satisfyingly sharp, high-contrast images.
In a first for the Cyber-shot line, the HX300 camera features newly-enhanced Optical SteadyShot(TM) image stabilization that improves framing and composition at high zoom settings. This is made possible by a second zoom group of lens elements that shifts rapidly to correct for the slightest of hand movements. The HX300 model also has new and improved high-speed autofocus at telephoto settings that locks onto subjects about twice(2) as fast as its predecessor, the HX200V model. This makes it easier than ever to grab those spontaneous moments with crisp, blur-free images.
The new camera has a balanced DSLR-style body and molded ergonomic grip that ensure comfort during shooting. There's also a full range of intuitively-placed controls including manual ring, custom button, jog dial and Memory Recall mode, as well as the new Multi-Terminal that allows intelligent communication between the camera and compatible accessories..
Cyber-shot TX30 Waterproof Camera
Great for swimming, snorkeling, skiing or any other kind of outdoor activity, the Cyber-shot TX30 is the world's slimmest waterproof digital compact camera(4) (as of Feb 2013). The chic, stylish camera features 5x optical zoom and is waterproof to a depth of 10m (33 ft), dustproof, shockproof and freezeproof(5).
New to the Cyber-shot line, the TX30 model features a Magnifying Glass Plus mode that zooms in for a fascinating super-size, magnification (up to 15x)( 6) of close objects such as fish, plants, insects and more. There is also a powerful LED light surrounding the lens for adding light to close up shots.
Sparkling picture quality made simple
Each of the new models features a new and improved Superior Auto Mode that automatically adjusts camera settings for the ideal composition in all lighting situations - , even if a subject is moving.
The three new cameras all come equipped with Picture Effect settings that make it easy to spice up photos, movies and panoramas instantly and automatically with a range of fun, impressive artistic treatments like Toy Camera, Pop Color, Soft High Key and Partial Color.
On the WX300 and TX30 cameras, Beauty Effect mode lets users automatically re-touch photos after shooting to remove skin blemishes, widen eyes and whiten teeth as needed.
All new models feature Advanced Flash that boosts the camera's sensitivity, effectively extending the flash range to make further-away subjects appear brighter in the shot. It's ideal for party photos and other dimly lit situations where built-in flashes typically struggle to reach all the action.
Also featured on all new Cyber-shot cameras, Triluminos(TM) Color gives a rich, vivid palette of supremely natural colors when viewing photos on your compatible BRAVIA TV with support for Triluminos Display.
Pricing and Availability
The new Cyber-shot WX300 compact camera will be available this April for about $330. The HX300 and TX30 cameras will both be available this March for about $500 and $350, respectively.
The cameras and a range of compatible Cyber-shot accessories will be available at Sony retail stores (http://www.store.sony.com) and other authorized dealers nationwide.

manage infrastructure and a managed private cloud where Amdocs provides
end-to-end management of the service provider's private cloud on the
service provider's premises. These private cloud services offer both
cost efficiencies and operational excellence
"Service providers have very quickly come to realize that cloud-based services can be a long-term growth engine in the face of declining voice revenues," said Rebecca Prudhomme, vice president for product and solutions marketing at Amdocs. "The benefits are threefold: lower costs, ability to deliver innovative services and bundles, and realize new revenues. But they're also finding that the cloud is more complicated than it looks from the outside - and that getting it right means having a partner who can provide a broad range of enablement and point solutions as well as operational models."
"Amdocs cloud offerings support service providers, whatever their cloud strategy. Our cloud-based, point solutions and cloud-enablement capabilities allow service providers to accelerate innovation and maximize profitability, while our private cloud deployments allow service providers to benefit from both cost efficiencies and operational excellence."

ASOCS and CMCC Team up to Deliver Mass Market High, Commercially Viable C-RAN Solutions
BEIJING and JERUSALEM, February 25, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --
ASOCS Ltd, a Silicon IP provider of Software Defined Radio solutions and CMRI,
Research Institute of CMCC Ltd. (NYSE: CHL; HKEx: 0941), the world's largest Mobile
Operator, announced today the signing of a strategic memorandum of understanding for the
joint development, commercialization, testing and deployment of large-scale baseband
processing units for China Mobile's next generation Cloud-RAN network.
Earlier trials undertaken by leading mobile operators, identified the bottleneck of
Centralized Base-band Units ("BBU"), consisting of general purpose CPU ("CPU") to perform
massive and concurrent baseband calculations in cost and power efficient manner. The
solution was to introduce significant offloading capabilities of such calculations with
highly specialized Modem Processing Units ("MPU").
Today there is a growing understanding in the industry that such MPU should support a
wide range of system partitioning, topologies and real time system performance, including
large scale Collaborative Multi-point communications ("CoMP") and massive MIMO.
Moreover, since communication algorithms are evolving over time, and since the C-RAN
concept provisions on-the-fly reconfiguration of the BBU to support a variety of mobile
communication standards, an MPU solution which is re-configurable at runtime has a great
advantage over traditional hard-wired designs.
ASOCS Software Defined Radio ("SDR") based ModemX architecture is ideally positioned
for this task, allowing for optimal CPU-MPU partitioning while offering cost- and
power-efficient solution, coupled with massive processing capacity.
"C-RAN is the green radio access network initiated by China Mobile with the aim of
large capacity, low cost and high power efficiency," said Dr. Chihlin I, chief scientist
of CMRI. "We believe that by collaborating with ASOCS, Network Equipment Vendors will be
able to accelerate and optimize their development of high capacity Cloud Ran systems. The
goal of CMRI is to realize C-RAN by closely co-operating with key stakeholders in the
industry."
"ASOCS is pleased to take part in the development of a crucial element in the C-RAN
overall solution by closely collaborating with CMRI," said Gilad Garon, CEO and Founder of
ASOCS. "ASOCS Silicon IP Modem Processing Unit (MPU), implemented on our Software Defined
Radio platform is ideally suited for massive processing of baseband pool of any current
and future cellular technology and is yet more proof of ASOCS' long-term strategy based on
its groundbreaking ModemX technology," he added.
About ASOCS
ASOCS develops and licenses plurality of software-defined modems for mobile, wireless
and broadband communication, based on its Heterogeneous Many core array - ModemX is
suitable for all current and future modem requirements. ASOCS CR2100 Modem Processing Unit
(MPU) Silicon IP enables the highest possible capacity of Base-band Unit for C-RAN, as
well as other wireless infrastructure cells from small to macro and beyond. ASOCS
solutions cover a variety of mobile solutions, both for terminals and mobile network
infrastructure, as well as other wireless and broadband standards. For more information,

Forward-Looking Statements
This news release contains forward-looking statements as defined in the Securities
Exchange Act of 1934 and is subject to the safe harbors created therein. The
forward-looking statements contained herein include, but are not limited to, information
regarding ASOCS and China Mobile's collaboration, the ability to successfully develop
C-RAN as currently anticipated, and China Mobile expectation for the demand of future or
new products, technologies, and services.

Alcatel-Lucent and China Mobile accelerate deployment of 4G TD-LTE across China with the introduction of lightRadio(TM) Metro Radio
Latest lightRadio innovation - co-developed with China Mobile - will help meet rising mobile video and data traffic in three of the fastest growing cities of the world
BARCELONA, Spain, Feb. 25, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Mobile World Congress 2013 -- Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) and China Mobile are to unveil an innovative new member of the lightRadio(TM) family that will help accelerate deployment of 4G TD-LTE technology across China, the largest mobile market in the world, as it continues to meet fast rising customer demand for mobile video and data.
lightRadio Metro Radio - co-developed by Alcatel-Lucent and China Mobile - will be launched on February 26 at the Global TD-LTE Initiative's (GTI) "TDD Night" during Mobile World Congress 2013 in Barcelona.
Available now for large-scale commercial deployment in China Mobile's first trial TD-LTE network, which spans 13 cities in China, lightRadio Metro Radio will bring high-performance 4G services to residents in densely populated areas of Shanghai, Nanjing and Qingdao, three of the fastest growing cities in China and indeed the world. This will help to meet the ever-increasing demand for mobile Internet, video and data in the world's largest smartphone market. China Mobile itself has over 722 million subscribers - over half of the total mobile subscriptions in the country.
As more and more people use mobile devices to access high-bandwidth services such as streaming video and gaming, cellular networks are being stretched beyond capacity. Small cells are critical to the future of wireless broadband by enabling operators to continue to provide high-quality, consistent services to customers without the need to build costly, and sometimes logistically challenging, cell towers.
In China, lightRadio Metro Radio will be deployed in busy indoor and outdoor locations, such as shopping malls and stadiums where coverage can suffer either from the large number of consumers trying to access a network, or because the density of buildings impedes the radio signal. In these locations it can be traditionally either too difficult or costly to deploy a macro cell base station. lightRadio Metro Radio will provide a cost-effective alternative.
Alcatel-Lucent and China Mobile signed a co-creation agreement in January 2012 to conduct joint development and test activities on a series of lightRadio TD-LTE projects to speed the deployment of LTE in China. TD-LTE is the 4G standard developed for use across China, and it is now being adopted by operators across the globe. lightRadio Metro Radio houses two lightRadio cubes, fully integrated with a directional antennae, allowing it to provide the coverage normally associated with a much bulkier, heavier remote radio unit linked to an external antenna via an RF coaxial cable.
lightRadio Metro Radio has been short-listed for the GTI's "Innovation Award", which recognizes innovation in the LTE industry and encourages the development of innovative products that address the challenges faced by GTI operators.
Bill Huang, President of China Mobile Research Institute, said: "China Mobile is committed to delivering the high-speed and performance mobile broadband service that customers are asking for. 4G TD-LTE is undergoing the final large-scale tests before commercial deployment and once completed the active antennae like Alcatel-Lucent's lightRadio Metro Radio will be key to rolling out this service to meet our customers' needs wherever they are."
Alcatel-Lucent's lightRadio portfolio of products, reduce the costs, power-consumption and size of LTE network elements, and help operators meet growing global demand for mobile video and data with increased speeds and performance.
Rajeev Singh-Molares, President of Alcatel-Lucent Asia Pacific Region said: "It is very exciting to think about the transformation these cities are soon to undergo and that Alcatel-Lucent will be at the heart of that transformation. As consumption of mobile data and video escalates in China, our small lightRadio Metro Radios will satisfy demand with the highest performance that China Mobile's customers' have come to expect."
To find out more about lightRadio Mobile Radio and other members of the lightRadio family, visit Alcatel-Lucent at Booth 3B 114 in the new Fira Grand Via Hall 3 at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

Texas Instruments Makes Mobile Device Projection Even Brighter With The Announcement of DLP® IntelliBright(TM)
BARCELONA, Spain, Feb. 25, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Today at Mobile World Congress (MWC), Texas Instruments (TI) (NASDAQ: TXN) DLP(®) Products premiered the IntelliBright(TM) system, a new suite of image processing algorithms designed to intelligently boost image brightness and contrast, while also minimizing power consumption. IntelliBright will enhance all classes of new DLP Pico(TM) products - mobile phones, tablets, digital video players, mobile accessories, and near-eye displays.
True to its name, the IntelliBright algorithms have the ability to intelligently analyze image content real-time and create brighter, higher contrast images without raising net power consumption. For consumers, IntelliBright means clearer, more vivid images in bright lighting conditions as well as longer battery life. For manufacturers, IntelliBright will offer further flexibility to tailor product performance to the specific needs of their customers and markets.
"We are very excited about the performance enhancements offered by IntelliBright," said Frank Moizio, business unit manager of DLP Pico. "When combined with the resolution and efficiency gains from our recently announced Tilt & Roll Pixel (TRP) architecture, the next generation of DLP Pico products will delight consumers with a whole new level of performance."
The IntelliBright suite consists of two distinct, patent-pending algorithms: Content-Adaptive Illumination Control (CAIC) and Local Area Brightness Boost (LABB). Since these algorithms operate autonomously, manufacturers can independently tune them to achieve desired product performance.
The CAIC algorithm operates by adjusting red, green and blue illumination strength on a frame-by-frame basis. The algorithm can be configured to maintain "constant image brightness" (which results in lower power consumption) or to maintain "constant illumination power" (which results in higher image brightness). This enables manufacturers to select their desired amount of brightness boost versus power savings.
The LABB algorithm also operates on a frame-by-frame basis by identifying "dark areas" and "bright areas" within a frame, then adding a programmable amount of gain to the dark areas, resulting in a more realistic and viewable image.
To combat variable ambient light conditions that can affect image visibility, manufacturers have the option of integrating ambient light sensor readings into the CAIC and LABB algorithms. Exact brightness increases and power consumption decreases are completely dependent on content and ambient light factors, along with manufacturer decisions, and therefore cannot be generalized.
DLP Pico is currently collaborating with manufactures to integrate IntelliBright and the TRP architecture into next generation products to deliver superior display performance.

Trend Micro Steps up Privacy Protection for Mobile Users
BARCELONA, Spain, Feb. 25, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Trend Micro Incorporated (TYO: 4704; TSE:4704), a global leader in consumer digital information security, is predicting a 185% increase in malicious and high risk Android(TM) apps in 2013. Because of the rise in mobile threats, Trend Micro is focused on putting the balance of power back into the hands of the consumer when it comes to protecting their privacy.
Mobile app and OS vendors still have a long way to go to assure consumers that their data is being handled with care and kept private. Based on Trend Micro's 2012 Mobile Threat and Security Roundup, the Company forecasted that not only would there be a 185% increase in malicious malware, but that Adware and Data stealers will be the 2(nd) and 3(rd) most prevalent kinds of malicious apps. The prevalence of aggressive adware brings three major issues to light: fraudulent text messages, user annoyance, and data leakage which puts consumers privacy in jeopardy.
"Currently apps on every major platform are entirely opaque when it comes to informing the user whether encryption is being used when transmitting data," said Rik Ferguson, director of security research and communications at Trend Micro. "Even simple smartphone browsers make it almost impossible to tell whether consumers are entering their data on a secure website. A similar lack of clarity is also apparent in operating systems. It's more important than ever to protect consumers while they are using their mobile devices."
With the gaps in security from OS vendors, along with the rise in malicious data stealing apps, mobile security is needed so that consumers can enjoy their digital lives safely. To answer consumers' needs, Trend Micro today is launching the next version of Trend Micro(TM) Mobile Security for Android(TM). It takes privacy protection to the next level by incorporating industry- leading antivirus protection, data-theft detection that identifies apps that actually collect personal information, anti-phishing protection, as well as privacy scanning and advice for users' Facebook(TM) profiles.
With that, third-party testing labs are proving that Trend Micro is producing high-quality mobile consumer products. AV-test.org recently tested Android mobile security apps. Trend Micro Mobile Security was ranked in the top 3 solutions and scored well above average for detection results. In addition to detection rates, design is also considered a critical element of all mobile security apps, especially those that are designed to help consumers protect their privacy. Trend Micro Mobile Security scored 6 out of 6 in the testing for usability, ranking #1 in ease of use.
"Protection of Android devices from malware attacks is essential today. Trend Micro Mobile Security offers an excellent protection with no false positives or measurable system slow-downs," said Andreas Marx, CEO of AV-TEST.org.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 Processor First to Use TSMC's 28HPM Advanced Process Technology
Snapdragon 800 processor on 28nm HPM process delivers high performance and low power for mobile devices
SAN DIEGO and HSINCHU, Taiwan, R.O.C., Feb. 25, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Qualcomm Incorporated (NASDAQ: QCOM) and TSMC (TWSE: 2330, NYSE: TSM) today announced that Qualcomm's wholly owned subsidiary, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., will be the first company to produce working silicon on TSMC's 28nm HPM (High Performance Mobile) process technology. TSMC's 28HPM is the first production process that can support 2GHz + application processors with low power consumption. The process is ideally suited for tablet and high-end smartphone applications.
The first 28HPM production device is a Qualcomm Snapdragon(TM) 800 processor with quad core Krait 400 CPUs with speeds of up to 2.3 GHz per core, customized for low power consumption. It also is the first SoC to integrate a 4G LTE Advanced modem with Carrier Aggregation and Category 4 data speeds up to 150 Mbps. Compared to previous generations, Qualcomm Technologies has significantly improved overall power efficiency via reduced leakage and active power while substantially increasing speed in its Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processors.
With its large speed and power range, TSMC's 28HPM process is optimized for mobile computing applications. It also supports wide market applications from application processors, integrated application processors with multimode LTE-Advanced Qualcomm Gobi modems to cloud-computing networking applications. The process could support CPU speeds of 2-2.3GHz with less than 750mW of power consumption per core. Compared to TSMC's 40LP, 28HPM devices are 2.5-2.7X faster, and cut active power in half.
"By utilizing TSMC's 28HPM process, Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processors will deliver industry leading performance and outstanding battery life," said Jim Lederer, executive vice president and general manager, Qualcomm Technologies. "In working closely with TSMC, we maximize the impact this process will have on bringing Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processors to tablet and high-end smartphone solutions, while continuing to find ways to align our business and strategic objectives that help to define the value of our partnership."
"Qualcomm Technologies uses its world-class architecture and deep familiarity with 28nm design to achieve breakthrough 2.3GHz performance and power characteristics high-end smartphone users want today," said Rick Cassidy, President, TSMC North America. "We are happy to see Qualcomm Technologies' achievement in producing the first 28HPM device and congratulate them on their ongoing mobile device leadership."
