Faster Processors, Next-Generation Graphics & Up to 10 Hours of Battery Life

CUPERTINO, Calif., April 13 -- Apple® today updated the MacBook® Pro line with faster processors, powerful next-generation NVIDIA graphics and even longer battery life. The popular 13-inch MacBook Pro features the new NVIDIA GeForce 320M graphics processor for up to 80 percent faster graphics and a groundbreaking 10-hour built-in battery.* The new 15-inch and 17-inch MacBook Pro models feature Intel Core i5 and i7 processors and Apple's new automatic graphics switching technology that toggles seamlessly between powerful NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M and energy efficient Intel HD Graphics processors.

"The new MacBook Pro is as advanced on the inside as it is stunning on the outside," said Philip Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. "With faster processors, amazing graphics and up to three more hours of battery life, the new MacBook Pro delivers both performance and efficiency."

All 13-inch MacBook Pro models now include faster Intel Core 2 Duo processors, 4GB RAM, a 10-hour built-in battery and the new NVIDIA GeForce 320M graphics processor. With 48 processing cores, the new NVIDIA GeForce 320M is the fastest integrated graphics processor on the market, ideal for graphics intensive applications or high performance games. The 13-inch MacBook Pro is available in two configurations: one with a 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo and 250GB hard drive priced at $1,199; and one with a 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo and 320GB hard drive priced at $1,499.

The new 15-inch and 17-inch MacBook Pro models are up to 50 percent faster than the previous systems.** Using Intel's state-of-the-art 32 nanometer process, Intel Core i5 and i7 processors integrate the memory controller and Level 3 cache for faster access to system memory. Hyper-Threading technology improves data throughput by creating virtual processing cores, while Turbo Boost optimizes performance between the two processor cores, accelerating the system from 2.66 GHz to 3.06 GHz for intensive dual core tasks, and up to 3.33 GHz for single core tasks.

All 15-inch and 17-inch models include two graphics processors, the new NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M for peak performance and Intel HD Graphics for energy efficient operation. More than twice as fast as the GeForce 320M, the powerful new GeForce GT 330M provides incredibly smooth, crisp on-screen graphics for the most demanding 3D games, creative software and technical applications. Apple's automatic graphics switching determines which graphics processor an application needs and switches instantly between processors to deliver peak performance and long battery life. Tightly integrated hardware and software allow the new 15-inch and 17-inch MacBook Pro to deliver 8 to 9 hours on a single charge.

The new 15-inch MacBook Pro is available in three models: one with a 2.4 GHz Intel Core i5, NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M and 320GB hard drive at $1,799; one with a 2.53 GHz Intel Core i5, NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M and 500GB hard drive at $1,999; and one with a 2.66 GHz Intel Core i7, NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M and 500GB hard drive at $2,199. The new 17-inch MacBook Pro features a 2.53 GHz Intel Core i5, NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M and 500GB hard drive for $2,299.

The MacBook Pro glass Multi-Touch(TM) trackpad now supports inertial scrolling, an intuitive way to scroll through large photo libraries, lengthy documents and long web sites. All MacBook Pros feature bright, LED-backlit wide-angle displays with a broad color gamut. The 17-inch MacBook Pro includes a high resolution 1920 x 1200 display, and the 15-inch MacBook Pro is now available with an optional high resolution 1680 x 1050 display. Customers can also upgrade their MacBook Pro with new 128GB, 256GB and 512GB solid state drives.

Initiative will help physicians transition to ePrescribing technology

FRANKLIN LAKES, N.J., April 13 -- As health care reform proceeds toward implementation, Medco Health Solutions, Inc. (NYSE: MHS), in collaboration with Medical Mutual of Ohio®, are hitting the ground running by delivering improved patient safety, reducing prescription drug costs and boosting physician practice efficiency through an initiative that encourages ePrescribing in Ohio. The program, which began in March 2010 and runs through September 2010, will help physicians use personal computers and wireless devices to write prescriptions and send them to the pharmacy for filling.

"ePrescribing puts life-saving information about adverse drug events in front of the doctor at the point of care," said John P. Driscoll, Medco's President of New Markets. "It's a critical component to transforming healthcare from our present system to one that is efficient, sustainable and patient-centered."

The program includes financial incentives for participating physicians who adopt ePrescribing into their practice.

At least 1.5 million preventable adverse drug events occur each year in the United States according to a 2006 report by the Institute of Medicine.(1)  ePrescribing can reduce that number by putting critical clinical information at the fingertips of physicians where it can do the most good--at the point of care.

ePrescribing uses an automated data entry system (such as a desktop computer, handheld device or personal computer tablet) in the physician's office to electronically submit a prescription to the patient's pharmacy of choice.

      of possible risks
  --  Eliminating medication errors due to illegible handwriting
  --  Increasing the use of generics and preferred drugs by providing

According to the 2008 State Progress Report on Electronic Prescribing, Ohio ranked 13th in the nation for use of ePrescribing. Almost five percent of prescriptions within the state were transmitted electronically in 2008, up from 2.5 percent in 2007(i).  Total prescription routing volume (the ability to electronically route the prescription to the patient's pharmacy of choice) in Ohio rose to 3 million in 2008, up from 1.5 million in 2007.

EEMBC(R) Undertakes Development of Industry-Standard Browser Platform Performance and Compliance Test

New Working Group Chaired by Texas Instruments Focuses on Benchmark to Measure the Browser User Experience

EL DORADO HILLS, Calif., April 13 -- The Embedded Microprocessor Benchmark Consortium (EEMBC) today announced that it has formed a new working group to create a standardized, industry-accepted method of evaluating Web browser performance on portable electronic devices. This working group will be co-chaired by Mansoor Chistie and Gary Debes, both from Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI).

Unlike other browser benchmarks, the EEMBC benchmark, named BrowsingBench, strives to measure the complete user-experience from the click/touch on a URL to final page rendered on the screen. It is not limited to measuring only JavaScript execution. In addition, it measures page rendering speed and factors in Internet content diversity as well as various network profiles used to access the Internet.

One other benchmark feature that is particularly important in the mobile platform is the ability to measure power consumption. Since a browser can trade higher performance for better battery life, BrowsingBench will include a methodology for determining the browsing effects on battery life.

BrowsingBench will benefit processor vendors, operating system and browser developers, and system developers by providing a tool to determine how effective (or ineffective) their hardware and software products are at processing and displaying Web pages - both for performing the individual subtasks necessary to display a page, as well as the total composite time for processing the entire page. Users will appreciate BrowsingBench because systems that perform well on the EEMBC benchmark should give good results on real-world, daily Web browser tasks; the opposite is also true. Using EEMBC benchmark, a user will be able to fairly compare browsing performance across different hardware platforms running a wide variety of software browser implementations.

Most Americans Willing to Sacrifice Some Privacy to Enhance Safe Air Travel, According to Latest Unisys Security Index

With economic and H1N1 worries receding, concerns over airport security and terrorism trump other U.S. public fears U.S. concerns about safety of online transactions at highest level since start of Unisys Security Index three years ago

BLUE BELL, Pa., April 13 -- Ninety-three percent of Americans said they are willing to sacrifice some level of privacy to increase safety when traveling by air, according to research conducted in January and February by Unisys Corporation (NYSE:UIS). Nearly two-thirds of Americans (65%) said they are willing to cooperate with full electronic body scans at the airport, and more than half (57%) would be willing to submit to identity checks using biometric data such as iris scans or fingerprints.

Nearly three quarters of Americans (72%) said they are willing to provide personal data in advance of air travel to increase security.

The findings, part of the latest bi-annual Unisys Security Index, illustrate that recent events such as the attempted Christmas Day airline bombing may have made security a priority for air travelers. A clear majority of citizens in nearly every country surveyed said they would be willing to forgo privacy to increase air travel security. For example, 90% of citizens in the United Kingdom and 70% of Australians said they would submit to electronic body scans.

"An overwhelming majority of the global population is willing to cooperate with enhanced travel security mandates, suggesting that the public is willing to give up some privacy in return for safer air travel," said Mark Cohn, vice president of enterprise security, Unisys. "This suggests that the public supports technologies, communications and personnel to enhance security at our nation's airports, borders and ports."

Recognizing the need to address air travel security concerns, Unisys today also announced the launch of its Next Generation Airport Passenger Security Solution (http://www.unisys.com/unisys/news/detail.jsp?id20000970002010069). This new solution integrates advanced technologies with existing IT and communication systems to provide passengers with a streamlined travel experience while enhancing security and reducing costs.

The latest results of the Unisys Security Index also confirmed that national security and identity theft rank as America's top concerns, with nearly two-thirds (65%) "extremely" or "very" concerned about U.S. national security and 64% seriously concerned about identity theft.

Nearly two-thirds of Americans (62%) are also seriously concerned about credit and debit card fraud. The percentage of Americans who are seriously concerned about the security of online transactions is at the highest level now (43%) since the Unisys Security Index began three years ago. The percentage of Americans who are "extremely concerned" about the security of their online transactions rose to 20% (up from 16% in September 2009).

These findings reflect recent trends reported by the U.S. government and other organizations. Last month, the FBI reported that losses due to internet fraud more than doubled in 2009 to nearly $560 million. In 2009, identity theft jumped 12 percent, hitting 11.1 million U.S. consumers, according to an annual survey released last month by Javelin Strategy & Research.

Overall Results of Latest Wave of Security Index

The Unisys Security Index surveys consumer opinion on four areas of security: financial, national, Internet and personal safety. More than 1,000 Americans responded to the latest survey. The results are tallied on a scale of 0-300, with 300 representing the highest level of perceived concern.

The overall score for the current Unisys Security Index for the United States was 147, indicating a moderate level of overall security concern. The overall score came in unchanged from the last survey taken in September 2009.

National security emerged again in the latest results as the U.S. public's greatest area of concern, with 65% of those surveyed saying they were concerned about this area. The number of Americans "extremely" concerned about identity theft rose to 31%, up from 26% in September 2009.

Americans' fear surrounding their ability to meet their essential financial obligations--which was the leading concern one year ago --continues to be on the decline. The most dramatic decline was reported in those "very concerned" about financial security-- from 25% in September 2009 to 20% in February 2010.

The research reveals another significant drop in the proportion of American adults who are "very concerned" about a national health epidemic like H1N1 (30% in September 2009 to 23% presently), while there has been an uptick in Americans "not at all concerned" about a national health epidemic-- 18% in September 2009 to 21% currently.

"The finding that an overwhelming number of Americans are willing to submit private information to enjoy safe air travel provides strong evidence that the public's privacy fears may be in decline," said Larry Ponemon, chairman and founder of the Ponemon Institute, an independent research and consulting firm. "I find the results of the Unisys Security Index as compelling evidence that people throughout the world care deeply about their personal safety, especially when traveling on a commercial airline."

Additional key global findings from the latest Unisys Security Index include:

  --  Citizens of the UK were the most accepting of electronic body scans at
      airports, with 90% of citizens approving the procedure. A large
      majority of the Dutch public (81%) were also in favor, followed by
      Australians (70%).
  --  Mexico and Hong Kong were the only countries surveyed in which a
      majority did not indicate willingness to submit to electronic body
      scans at airports. Only 24% of the Mexican adults and 45% of those in
      Hong Kong said they would support use of the procedure.
  --  Security concerns were highest in Brazil, which reported an overall
      index score of 177, closely followed by Mexico with a score of 173.
      The Netherlands reported the lowest level of concern with an overall
      score of 70.
  --  Identity crime ranks as the overall greatest concern in the United
      Kingdom. 87% of UK adults are worried about unauthorized access to
      their personal information and the same percentage expressed fear
      about other people obtaining or using their credit card or debit card
      details.
  --  National security concern is extremely high in Mexico. More than
      three-quarters of Mexicans (77%) are seriously concerned about
      national security, the top concern in the country. Only 4% of Mexicans
      said they were not concerned about national security.

its Optism(TM) Mobile Advertising Solution, a unique new offering that

New solution builds on Unisys experience with advanced biometric technologies to enhance security, speed passenger processing time and reduce costs

BLUE BELL, Pa., April 13 -- Unisys Corporation (NYSE:UIS) today announced its Next Generation Airport Passenger Security Solution, aimed at helping commercial airlines and airports speed passenger processing time, reduce costs and create a more secure and convenient experience for air travelers around the world.

Unisys, a leading integrator of security solutions for private and public sector organizations worldwide as well as a longtime provider of technology solutions to airports and the airline industry, is bringing together these capabilities to address a growing problem in air travel today: long departure lines, flight delays and dissatisfied travelers due to inconvenient procedures.

Drawing on the company's experience with the aviation industry and advanced biometric-based security solutions for governments and commercial organizations, the new Unisys solution will integrate the various stages of the air passenger experience with a biometric component to uniquely identify each passenger. The end-to-end solution covers the key touch points of air travel: from electronic boarding passes, to boarding plane, to passing through immigration, to baggage collection.

"Travelers around the world are being squeezed by a growing number of critical but costly and inconvenient airport security procedures that are taking the joy out of traveling," said Terry Hartmann, vice president, identity and credentialing global practice, Unisys. "With the technologies we have today, air travel doesn't have to be such a difficult experience. Unisys has extensive experience applying advanced biometric technology to address the most demanding identification challenges, and we look forward to helping airports, airlines and immigration agencies make better use of these technologies to bring a new level of convenience and efficiency to air travel."

The new solution, which comprises a range of Unisys services and software, is based on the proven Unisys LEIDA (Library of eID Artifacts software) framework, which creates software building blocks that accelerate the time needed to develop and implement identity and credentialing solutions. Unisys will integrate its own software solutions with best-of-breed components from its partners in the areas of biometrics and identity management.

Reducing the Hassles of Air Travel

The Unisys solution will take advantage of the ongoing transition in many countries to biometric electronic passports, or "e-passports," which feature embedded biometric data about the traveler within the documents. Using the LEIDA framework, coupled with its existing Airport Passenger Processing Solutions, Unisys will integrate this passport data with other biometrically-captured identification information to greatly speed the air passenger process. This integration will help address many of the hot topics in the aviation industry today - such as those being addressed by the International Air Transport Association's Fast Travel program to create standards and recommended practices for self-service options to improve the air travel experience.

"This new solution helps to address the very tricky equation of satisfying airport security requirements, while maintaining or improving passenger service and processing efficiency," said Haakan Andersson, director of airports at Unisys.

Here's how the new process would work for the typical passenger:

Before purchasing tickets online, travelers would provide passport and/or biometric information to the relevant authorities. Travelers checking in online could choose to have mobile boarding passes with a 2D barcode sent to their mobile phones, eliminating the need for paper boarding passes.

Upon arrival at the airport, they would proceed to a self-service or agent-operated bag drop, where their identities, e-passports and electronic boarding passes would be checked and matched using biometric technology to verify their identities. The solution also has included a capability to allow travelers, in the future, to preprint their own baggage tags to bypass airport bag-tag print queues.

Using the biometric technologies of facial recognition, fingerprint scans and iris recognition, passenger identities could be quickly verified at each security checkpoint, as well as other locations such as airline lounges. Travelers would then have plenty of time for shopping or dining, before proceeding to the departure gates where biometrics would also be used to confirm that all travelers and their luggage have made it on board - and that all travelers, their travel documents and boarding passes are uniquely matched.

Upon arrival, passengers traveling to international destinations would use their biometric-enabled e-passports at automated immigration gates to verify their entitlement to enter the country. If verified, they would be able to immediately proceed to baggage claim areas - bypassing long lines and the hassle often associated with waiting in line for manual immigration checks.

Consumer readiness for the solution was underscored by the latest results (http://www.unisys.com/unisys/news/detail.jsp?id20000970001910179) of its bi-annual Unisys Security Index, also announced today, which revealed that consumers worldwide are willing to sacrifice some level of privacy to increase safety when traveling by air. For example, 72% of U.S. citizens said they would be willing to provide personal data in advance of air travel to increase security. Elsewhere, 91% of citizens in the United Kingdom and 68% of Australians said they would provide biometric data to increase flight security.

This Next Generation Airport Passenger Security Solution builds on Unisys longstanding aviation and security expertise in successfully integrating communications and security networks. Unisys has worked with some of the world's major airports including the Los Angeles World Airports, the Beijing Capital International Airport, the Delhi International Airport and the Madrid/Barcelona airports in managing their integrated security systems. Newly launched Adobe Creative Suite 5 features enhanced integration with Wacom's professional pen input products

VANCOUVER, Wash., April 13 -- Today, Wacom® announces wide-ranging support for the powerful new features of Adobe® Creative Suite® 5 (CS5), officially launched yesterday.  The significant upgrades in CS5 include new pen-centric capabilities, particularly in the brush engine for Photoshop® CS5 and Illustrator® CS5 software.  Photoshop users will get the most from the new brush capabilities in CS5 when using either Wacom's Intuos®4 professional pen tablet or Cintiq® interactive pen display.  "Never has there been a better time for professional photographers, designers and artists to combine Wacom pen input with Adobe's Creative Suite software to naturally express their creative ideas and increase their productivity," said Don Varga, senior product manager for Wacom's professional products.

Pen Power Enhances Photoshop Brush Engine

Wacom's line of professional pen tablet and interactive pen displays work cohesively with CS5 and some of the most beneficial workflow enhancements for the pen user can be found in the new brush engine within Photoshop CS5.  "The Wacom pen and Adobe Photoshop have long enjoyed an harmonious and productive relationship," added Varga.  "The new brush engine in Photoshop CS5 takes that relationship to a whole new level by offering tools that integrate pen pressure sensitivity, tilt and rotation, as well as emphasize the intuitive and creative nature of the pen over alternative input devices."

There are several key Photoshop CS5 brush engine enhancements for Intuos and Cintiq users that augment performance and simplify use.  To begin with, CS5 integrates toggle buttons that add pen pressure-sensitive control over brush size and opacity right on the standard application bar.  Wacom users need only point and click on these buttons to capture control of these brush dynamics.  In addition, CS5 introduces a set of pressure and tilt-sensitive Bristle Tip brushes allowing pen users to easily incorporate artistic brush strokes and effects into their workflow.  "When used with the new Bristle Tip brushes, Wacom's professional pen's Tip Sensor technology and 2048 levels of pressure sensitivity delivers a painting experience that feels just like working with traditional media," stated Varga.  The brush preview window allows the Wacom user to see real-time brush characteristics including the angle at which the brush is being held by the user.  In addition, when employed with the Art Pen, a Wacom specialty pen that senses barrel rotation (the twist of an artist's brush) within Photoshop and Illustrator, brushes deliver a traditional media feel and empower users to reach new heights of creative expression.

The way Wacom pen users can now create and blend colors has also been vastly improved in Photoshop CS5.  The Mixer Brush is a pressure-sensitive tool that allows users to blend colors as if they were wet paint.  Using setting controls in the options bar, one can define the wetness and the amount of paint being mixed and applied by the brush. The Mixer Brush can be used on colors that have been applied with any tools such as pencil, pen or paint bucket.  It can even be used to blend colors and add realistic brush strokes to a photograph to give it a hand-painted appearance.

The pressure-sensitive Spot healing brush takes advantage of the new Content-Aware Fill technology in Photoshop CS5 to remove blemishes and unwanted objects in a photograph.  Wacom users can precisely paint over elements that they wish to remove in an image, replacing them with details that match the lighting, tone and texture of the surrounding area.

New intelligent technology offers an unparalleled level of control for the Wacom pen in the making of selections and masks.  The Refine Edge Radius brush allows the user to delicately expand the edge detection area of a selection when working with complex elements, such a hair.  According to Varga, "Wacom's pen on paper feel provides a much easier, natural and precise way to follow contours in an image when working with the Refine Edge Radius tool."

Illustrator CS5 Users Draw Creativity from Wacom Pen

Illustrator CS5 also has a new set of Bristle Brushes that allow users to paint with vectors that resemble traditional art brushes.  Similar to the Bristle Tip brushes in Photoshop CS5, Wacom pen users can easily modify the natural characteristics of these brushes including size, length, shape thickness and stiffness.  In addition, Illustrator's support of pen pressure and tilt-sensitivity provides superior control over brush dynamics such as angle, roundness and diameter.  "Opacity settings can now be assigned to the new Bristle Brushes in Illustrator CS5," said Varga.  "This is wonderful news to the designer or artist as they can now create soft, transparent variations in scalable vector lines."

The Wacom Art Pen also works in Illustrator CS5, providing a unique and personal touch to artwork by way of its 360 degrees of barrel rotation.

Conversion Services International Reports 4th Quarter and Full Year 2009 Results

EAST HANOVER, N.J., April 13 -- Conversion Services International, Inc. (CSI, OTC Bulletin Board: CVNS), a premier professional services firm focused on delivering business intelligence and business process optimization solutions to Global 2000 organizations and other businesses, has announced its financial results for the three and twelve months ended December 31, 2009.

Conversion Services International, Inc. ("CSI") reported its net income for the three months ended December, 2009 of $0.5 million. Net income attributable to common stockholders was $0.3 million, or $0.00 per share. In the fourth quarter of 2008, the Company reported a net loss of $2.1 million and a loss of $2.2 million, or $0.02 per share attributable to common stockholders.

Revenues for the fourth quarter of 2009 were $6.5 million, representing an increase of $1.1 million, or 19.3%, from $5.4 million reported in the same period a year ago. Gross profit for the quarter of $2.2 million, or 33.6% of revenues, increased by $0.6 million as compared to gross profit of $1.6 million, or 29.1% of revenues for the three months ended December 31, 2008.

For the twelve months ended December, 2009, revenues were $24.2 million, which represents a $4.5 million, or 22.5%, increase from $19.7 million in the comparable prior year period. Gross profit for the twelve months year-to-date in 2009 of $6.8 million, or 28.3% of revenues, increased by $1.9 million as compared to gross profit of $4.9 million, or 24.8% of revenues, during the prior year period.

CSI reported net income for the twelve month period ended December 31, 2009 of $31,956 and a loss of $0.5 million, or $0.00 per share attributable to common stockholders. For the twelve month period ended December 31, 2008, the Company reported a net loss of $10.5 million and a loss of $11.1 million, or $0.10 per share attributable to common stockholders.

Lori Cohen, president and chief executive officer of CSI, stated, "We focused our 2009 efforts on generating more profitable business, and reducing or eliminating low margin business, which is illustrated by the 3.5% point increase in our gross profit percentage (from 24.8% in 2008 to 28.3% in 2009) for the year ended December 31, 2009, as compared to the prior year period. Our improved financial results in 2009 have allowed us to strengthen our company by reducing our debt and improving our balance sheet. Although we are pleased with our results this year, we must strive to maintain this positive trend and our efforts to continue to be profitable, further strengthen our balance sheet and, importantly, increase shareholder value."

New Database Provides Online Access to Research and Resources in the Health Games Field

Comprehensive resource from Health Games Research to help researchers, game developers and health professionals strengthen the research, design and implementation of health games

SANTA BARBARA, Calif., April 13 -- Health Games Research, a national program of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation's Pioneer Portfolio (RWJF), today unveiled a searchable database tracking more than 1,200 resources related to digital health games. This online tool, available at http://www.healthgamesresearch.org, for the first time enables researchers, game developers, health professionals, educators, funding agencies and policy makers to access in one place a wide-ranging compilation of health games, research findings, publications, organizations and events in this growing field.

The database, which is searchable by category or by keyword, provides a substantial amount of detail about each item with links to more information. Adding to its interactive nature, users can keep the database current by suggesting new items to include.

"The demand for information about health games is extremely high and continues to rise," said Debra Lieberman, Ph.D., director of Health Games Research and communication researcher at the University of California, Santa Barbara. "This database is designed to serve a wide range of people, from doctors who want to create games in their area of specialty, to health promotion professionals who want to use games in health campaigns, to students looking for academic programs in video game design and production, to game developers looking for health behavior-change strategies to incorporate into their games, to researchers looking for journal articles and collaborators. In addition to providing a wide range of information about the field, the database lists hundreds of health games."

Several important studies have investigated the design and effects of health games and have found significant impacts on players' health.  However, more research is needed to improve the game elements that could motivate better health behaviors and to discover how different people process various health game elements cognitively, emotionally, socially and physiologically. The Health Games Research database provides resources and published studies so that practitioners and researchers can apply existing findings and conduct new research.

Since its creation in 2007, the program has awarded nearly $4 million to 21 research teams to conduct studies of digital games that engage players in physical activity and/or motivate them to improve health behaviors related to prevention and self-care. The projects include a study of Lit, a mobile phone-based smoking cessation game created by Teachers College at Columbia University, in which the player breathes into the phone's microphone as the interface to the game. Also, a team at Union College is studying older adults' motivation to exercise and their health outcomes when they use stationary bikes--or cybercycles--outfitted with screens that display virtual locations and let them race against their personal best times and against others.

Facebook and Its Safety Advisory Board Launch Robust New Safety Center

First initiative with global board brings new safety content to parents, educators, teens and law enforcement

PALO ALTO, Calif., April 13 -- In its latest effort to build and sustain a trusted environment for its 400 million users worldwide, Facebook today launched a completely redesigned Safety Center (http://www.facebook.com/safety) with new resources designed to inform parents, educators, teens, and members of the law enforcement community about Facebook's tools for staying safe while using the service. The initiative is the first major collaboration between Facebook and its global Safety Advisory Board, which it convened in December 2009.

As more people bring their social connections online, understanding best practices for staying safe on Facebook is as important as learning not to talk to strangers or rules of the road.  The new Safety Center, which the company has been testing in recent weeks, is designed to meet these needs through zeroing in on the following key components:

  --  Robust content: four times the number of pages dedicated to safety
      topics than was previously available
  --  Interactive portal: rich multimedia content drawn from Facebook
      resources as well as independent organizations that seek to educate
      people about staying safe online
  --  Streamlined design: clean, navigable interface created to help people
      quickly find answers to important safety questions organized by topic,
      such as "Addressing Personal Safety" and "Responding to Objectionable
      Content"

Facebook worked directly with its Safety Advisory Board on the initiative. The board provided expert advice on topics to address within the Center, including defense against cyberbullying; how to report a policy violation to Facebook; and information for educators on using the service. The Safety Center also includes content for parents developed by Common Sense Media, a member of its Safety Advisory Board, on topics such as "How do I teach my teen to use the Internet wisely?" and "Can I 'friend' my teen on Facebook?" This comes as part of a partnership between Facebook and Common Sense Media to promote digital literacy across the Internet.

Facebook also used the European Union's Safer Social Networking Principles, a set of recommended best practices adopted by the social networking industry in consultation with the European Commission, to inform the new design.

New Malware Uses Bogus Copyright Infringement Alerts

Ah, well, it was bound to happen sooner or later. Apparently, there is a new "ransomware" that uses a fake "copyright violation notice" as its method for tricking users out of $400.

Upon execution the ransomware will change the Desktop’s wallpaper to the “Warning! Piracy detected!” background.
...
It will then make sure the warnings appear every time the end user restarts PCs. In between, it will lock down the end user’s Desktop, featuring the “Copyright violation: copyrighted content detected” window
