Twilio Launches Picture Messaging, Drops Prices on Text Messaging
Highly anticipated product allows developers and businesses to add images into their apps/workflows, new pricing and feature enhancements added to text product
SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 18, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- TWILIOCON -- Twilio, the communications API platform, today announced Twilio Picture Messaging, which allows customers to send images over MMS. Twilio customers can now send picture messages via short codes in the U.S., and phone numbers in Canada. In addition, Twilio is adding feature enhancements and continuing its tradition of passing savings onto customers by announcing a 25 percent price cut to its text messaging product for US phone numbers. More details on Twilio's offering can be found at http://www.twilio.com/sms.
"Text messaging is a great way to communicate, but often words are not enough," said Jeff Lawson, CEO and co-founder of Twilio. "Why describe a house for sale in words when you can send a picture? Why describe the damage to your car when you can show it? Seeing is believing -- pictures can build trust and drive decisions. Picture messaging opens the door to a whole range of new communications opportunities. We can't wait to see what our community builds next."
Developers and businesses can now send and receive picture messages to and from Canadian phone numbers and U.S. short codes with just a few lines of code. Twilio Picture Messaging supports a wide variety of image types including JPEG, GIF and PNG. Pricing will be only $0.02 outbound, $0.01 inbound, with a one-time activation fee of $500 for U.S. short codes only.
"Incorporating pictures into messaging takes the customer experience to another level," said Patrick Malatack, director of product management at Twilio. "Whether you are influencing customer behavior, maintaining consistent branding in your communications, or building better processes for your business; we think that a lot of people, in a wide range of industries will be able to create incredible experiences as part of their products and workflows."
Redbeacon, a Home Depot company that connects home improvement seekers with qualified contractors via Twilio text message, is already planning new products based on Twilio Picture Messaging.
"Picture messaging will allow our contractors to take photos of their handiwork and instantly add them to their profiles straight from their phones," said Anthony Rodio, CEO of Redbeacon and vice president of Silicon Valley for The Home Depot. "This will make it easier for our pros to promote their capabilities, and it'll create a great experience for the consumer."
As Twilio has done historically, it continues to drive down the cost of operations and pass the savings on to its customers. Twilio Text Messaging, which debuted for US phone numbers in 2010 at $0.03 per message, will now be a fraction of a cent -- only $0.0075 per message, inbound and outbound. International messaging and short code messaging rates remain unchanged.
"Twilio continues to work to reduce costs and make the delivery of voice and messaging more accessible," said Lawson. "As we do that, Twilio passes those savings onto our customers. Making it as easy and affordable as possible to use Twilio is our ultimate goal -- a scenario where everyone wins."
In addition to picture messaging and the new pricing cut on text messaging, Twilio is also adding support for sending messages up to 1600 characters, an increase from the industry standard 160.

Twilio Announces New Products For Building Business Critical Communications Apps in the Cloud
Twilio SIP and New Tools Make It Easier to Build, Monitor and Secure Communications in the Cloud
SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 18, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- TWILIOCON -- Twilio (http://www.twilio.com), the communications API platform, today announced new products that directly address the needs of companies running business critical communications applications in the cloud. Twilio SIP allows organizations to tie their legacy infrastructure to the cloud, while new monitoring tools maximize reliability and performance of those applications. Also Twilio announced new features that enable greater control of application security settings. Together, these new capabilities allow companies to implement new projects quickly, at lower costs and with greater confidence than ever before. Contact centers, technical support services, mobile marketing, and business process and logistics operations are just a few uses of Twilio's new cloud-based communications offerings.
"For companies in almost every industry, the ability to innovate, scale and quickly meet changing customer demands is critical. The ability to prototype new ideas, then build and rapidly deploy communications solutions that grow with the needs of a business can set these enterprises apart," said Jeff Lawson, Twilio CEO. "While many organizations want to take advantage of the agility the cloud enables, they also need to leverage their existing hardware investments. Twilio SIP bridges that gap, connecting existing hardware to the cloud."
Twilio SIP - Bridging Closet to Cloud
Twilio SIP is an important capability that enables enterprises to seamlessly connect their SIP-enabled hardware to the cloud for on-demand capacity, increased capabilities and global expansion. Twilio SIP is the bridge into Twilio's communications API platform which opens the door to an agile communications environment. Enterprises can now quickly and easily mix and match on-premise hardware, on-premise software and carrier relationships with new cloud applications and capabilities.
Twilio SIP provides a range of benefits. For instance, organizations using Twilio SIP can rapidly prototype, build and deploy communications solutions on top of Twilio's infrastructure, and tie that infrastructure seamlessly to their existing on-premises equipment. They gain greater agility, with the ability to reconfigure on the fly to meet changing communications needs. They also gain instant scalability thanks to the power of the cloud, and flexibility since they can build solutions that directly meet specific business needs using standard web programming languages.
New Developer Tools for Monitoring and Debugging
As developers tackle larger and more complex communications applications, it becomes more difficult to quickly discover the source of application issues before customers are affected. Today, Twilio has introduced two new powerful developer tools that make it simple for developers to identify and diagnose problems with their applications. These new tools include:
-- Application Monitor is a real-time error and monitoring system for
Twilio applications. Developers can now immediately identify issues
with their application, and have error analytics and the detail
necessary to fix the issue. Additionally, they can configure email
alerts and webhooks to be notified when errors spike.
-- Request Inspector is a debugger for phone calls. Developers are now
armed with a powerful HTTP inspector that boosts their productivity.
Added Account Settings for Enhanced Security
Today, Twilio also announced new account settings that give developers and enterprises more control over their Twilio account. New settings include:
-- Disable Request Inspector. Companies with data compliance requirements
can disable the Request inspector, so no sensitive personal information
in their server responses is logged by Twilio.
-- Enforcement of Authentication on Media URLs. Developers can now chose to
require HTTP authentication to access any media on their account. With
the flip of a switch developers and enterprises can now add an extra
layer of security.
Over the past year, Twilio has introduced a number of new features that streamline the development of business critical applications in the cloud. Today's new features were preceded by releases of other advanced capabilities including: WebRTC, multi-user account management, two-factor authentication and others.

-- DataDirect Networks (DDN) is enabling organizations dealing with
web-scale and Big Data challenges to make huge strides towards storing,
accessing, searching and managing any amount of data at any scale with
the newest release of the company's distributed object-based storage
technology, Web Object Scaler (WOS®) 3.0 and new WOS7000 object storage
appliance.
-- WOS technology extends DDN's leadership in deploying storage for the
world's most demanding applications with an object storage software and
hardware stack designed to deliver rapid on-premise cloud storage,
self-service access to data and accelerated time to insight.
-- With WOS technology, customers now have an alternative to expensive
"pay-as-you-go" public cloud storage services[i], as using DDN's
linearly-scalable, global storage platform can slash total cost of data
storage by more than 50 percent.
-- In contrast to conventional file storage technologies, WOS storage can
support and manage more files than any other storage system, shattering
scalability limitations by enabling the federation of WOS clusters of up
to 983 petabytes and 32 trillion unique objects.
-- Without the burden of file system bottlenecks, federated WOS technology
can deliver more than 200x performance increases over the current peak
performance of even the largest public cloud storage services. This
includes object retrieval of 256 million objects per second, throughput
of over 10 terabytes per second with object retrieval latency of less
than 50 milliseconds.
-- WOS 3.0 represents the culmination of more than five years of investment
into scalability breakthroughs to support the largest cloud and
data-intensive computing applications and lays the foundation for DDN's
continuing advancements in at-scale, next-generation data protection,
resiliency and management.
Tweet This: .@ddn_limitless object storage ushers in new era ofspeed, scale and insight for webscale and #BigData apps http://bit.ly/16dKL7c
Speed Intelligent Decision-Making, Collaboration and Time-to-Insight from Big Data
-- WOS 3.0 supports parallel search of user-defined metadata across a
distributed WOS cloud of as many as 8,000 WOS cluster nodes. Now, users
can immediately index and contextualize petabytes of data in
milliseconds versus days, transforming data into information so they can
make rapid, intelligent business decisions.
-- A fundamental shift in the storage paradigm is at work as WOS technology
now integrates with DDN's GRIDScaler parallel file storage system,
powered by DDN's high performance Storage Fusion Architecture® (SFA)
storage array technology to tier data from file-based workflows into a
simple, scalable WOS archive. This gives users object storage and file
storage on a single scale-out platform, where data can be archived for
disaster recovery or worked on via a "follow the sun" model, maximizing
data protection, organizational productivity and speeding
time-to-insight.
Scalability and Performance without Complexity
-- A combination of software integrated into high-efficiency, high-density
WOS7000 storage appliance hardware, WOS technology can be managed from a
single interface to reduce administrative complexity and drive down the
total cost of ownership (TCO).
-- Unlike conventional file storage solutions, WOS multi-cluster
configuration enables WOS to scale to any dimension as each cluster can
support up to 1 trillion objects across 256 WOS object storage servers.
A cluster of 32 federated WOS clusters can be architected into a single
storage environment capable of servicing over 32 trillion unique object
IDs without slowing performance or adding complexity to the environment.
-- Major performance enhancements are achieved through the architectural
design of WOS technology which eschews conventional file system
protocols and bottlenecks and aggregates petabytes of data, while
intelligently protecting data either with erasure coding and
synchronous/asynchronous replication or a hybrid combination of the two.
-- A full implementation of the object storage driver eliminates the need
for local file systems and enables the object storage cluster to write
native objects directly and contiguously to disk, which eliminates
fragmentation, increases performance utilization by up to 10x versus
Linux file system-based solutions[ii], and ensures 99 percent disk
capacity utilization.
Improving Long-Term Data Storage TCO
-- Preconfigured for rapid deployment, the WOS7000 appliance powered by WOS
3.0 software comes fully assembled and ready to run production workloads
with minimal configuration, removing the guesswork and risk from
deploying cloud storage, reducing management overhead, and providing
rapid time to value from storage investments.
-- A next-generation object storage technology, the WOS solution is highly
versatile, efficient and robust, and offers up to 33 percent more data
center capacity versus previous WOS offerings. With over 2.5PB of
capacity in a single data center rack, the latest version provides
additional savings by minimizing the costs to power, cool and manage the
system.
Availability
-- WOS 3.0 and WOS7000 appliance are scheduled for general availability in
September 2013.

A New Paradigm in Fantasy Football Launches With Real Cash Contests On iOS - Blue Ox Entertainment Unveils SideDraft(TM) App
Unique iOS Application Brings the Excitement of Weekly Fantasy Football Contests to a Pure Mobile Platform
BLOOMFIELD HILLS, Mich., Sept. 17, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- For fantasy football fanatics sitting at 0-2 and wishing they could press re-set on the young 2013 NFL season, they now can - over and over and over again - with the launch of SideDraft(TM), the first, exclusively mobile app to offer real-money fantasy sports contests on iPhones and iPads.
According to the Fantasy Sports Trade Association (FSTA), more than 23 million Americans will play fantasy football in 2013. Blue Ox Entertainment developed SideDraft to provide this massive player base with a new way to socialize over fantasy football without having to commit to a season-long engagement with the same roster of underperforming players. Each week is a new draft with a hand-selected opponent and agreed upon cash payout.
The app's gameplay is simple. A player funds the account; then selects a head-to-head contest for a payout between $0 and $1,000; and lastly challenges one of their buddies to take part in the competition. With daily fantasy sports websites, fantasy teams are formed by picking players adhering to a salary cap. SideDraft is unique in that teams are formed by alternating six picks, thereby eliminating the chance that both participants select the same players. The app features a clean design, which keeps track of the fantasy scoring as well as the amount of money at stake. Whichever team's six players accumulate the most points wins the contest, the cash, and the bragging rights.
"It's not fun when every fantasy team ends up with Adrian Peterson, but that's what happens when you pick a roster through salary restrictions," said Jon Goldstein, co-founder and CEO of Blue Ox Entertainment. "We wanted SideDraft to take the most exhilarating part of fantasy football - drafting - and make it the most significant component of the game. " The best part about it? If you don't get your guy this time, there's always next week - or even against another opponent that same week."
With the increasingly popular daily fantasy sports websites, a common complaint is the difficulty to actually win a competition, with professional players, or "sharks," preying on these sites to take everyone else's money. SideDraft is designed for players to socialize with their friends by drafting and competing against one another, where winning is more realistic.
Players can conduct multiple competitions at once, allowing them to explore different strategies and fantasy players. There's minimal time commitment as the draft can be completed over hours or even days. After your opponent selects a player, you receive a push notification that it's now your turn. It perfectly blends the excitement of playing for cash with the skill required to excel at fantasy sports. Players can engage in weekly competitions instead of waiting for the end of the long football season to declare a winner. Fantasy diehards can even compete in a fantasy contest set exclusively around the time that they actually plan to watch football.
"America cannot get enough of professional football, much in part because of the explosion in fantasy football over the last decade," said Goldstein. "We created SideDraft to give the dedicated fantasy player a great way to socialize and compete with their friends without the time drain a season-long league requires. No one needs to worry about complex transactions or fictional monetary values of players. You just pick your team from the entire pool of players and you are all set. With the long fantasy season, some players might be out of it by Week 5. SideDraft allows them to get back into the action and use their knowledge to have fun and maybe even win some spending money."

With the Streaming Media Trend Gaining Momentum, Audiobooks.com Is The Only Audio Books Service to Offer Streaming / Download Option
On-Demand Streaming Revolution Moving from Home WiFi to In-Car Infotainment Centers
TORONTO, Sept. 17, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Just as digital downloads once displaced physical media like CDs, streaming is replacing digital downloading as the media consumption technology of choice across multiple media platforms, as the success of streaming platforms like Netflix and Pandora demonstrate. Streaming doesn't require the user to save content on a device hard drive like downloads do; instead, users just select content and watch or listen instantly from a cloud-based service. Audiobooks.com, the only service that allows members to stream and download audiobooks, is poised to capitalize on streaming's marketplace momentum as new technologies spring up to support consumers' appetite for streaming on demand.
"Audiobooks.com is leading the streaming revolution in the audiobooks space," said Sanjay Singhal, CEO of Audiobooks.com and a veteran of numerous successful technology and retail startups as well as several Fortune 500 telecommunications and broadband companies. "While other services require users to download and store content, we give members a choice of on-demand streaming or downloading for times when they can't access broadband for streaming."
To better support both streaming and downloading on the go, Audiobooks.com just announced the release of updated versions of the company's free iOS and Android apps. Featuring an intuitive new user interface, the newly released apps are available at Apple's App Store for iPhones, iPod Touch and iPads or at Google Play for Android devices. Members can use the apps to stream content on demand, choosing from tens of thousands of audio book titles like The Hunger Games trilogy and the Twilight series as well as popular best-sellers such as Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card, Orange is the New Black by Piper Kerman and Hidden Order, a thriller by Brad Thor.
Today, travelers and commuters often download audiobooks for listening during a road trip or on the way to work, but emerging technology is expanding access to streaming platforms on the go. A recent Consumer Reports article noted that "in-car electronics is the fastest-growing area of auto technology," with sophisticated "infotainment centers" delivering access to an array of media platforms for drivers and passengers, including media streaming capabilities.
"Streaming technology is changing the way people access content across the media spectrum," Singhal, noted. "Broadband access is on a steep upward trajectory, and new technologies are supporting expanded access to streaming platforms everywhere. Audiobooks.com is the only player in the industry that is delivering audiobooks in the on-demand streaming format consumers increasingly prefer."
The new versions of the Audiobooks.com apps are available now for free at the Apple App Store or Google Play, providing an improved user experience for members to stream audiobooks on demand or download content. To learn more, please visit http://www.Audiobooks.com.
About Audiobooks.com
Audiobooks.com provides the first on-demand streaming and downloadable service for audiobooks, delivering access on any Internet-enabled smartphone or PC, including Apple iPhones and iPads and Android smartphones or tablet devices. Shell Brazil chooses Windows Phone to lower costs and increase employee productivity
The investment in the application developed by Microsoft solutions partner Blink Systems forms part of Shell's strategy to develop better resources and increase company efficiencies.
SAO PAULO, Sept. 17, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --
Microsoft Brazil and Shell on Tuesday announced that Shell will deploy approximately 200 Windows Phone 8 devices to company distributors, which will increase its number of Windows Phone devices from 100 to 300 during 2013. These devices will support the entire sales force of the company's distribution network in Brazil, which is made up of company resellers tasked with visiting individual gas stations to collect client requests. The newly deployed Nokia Lumia devices, including models such as the Lumia 520 and the Lumia 920, were chosen based on cost benefits and security.
The adoption of these Windows Phone 8 devices has enabled the company to significantly lower costs, which would not have been possible with the iOS devices Shell also considered. The phones have also helped improve the productivity of its commercial team, which previously required software installation and updates to be made on each individual device. Now Shell is able to make these changes directly on the server, and the program is updated automatically on all fixed and mobile networks.
To increase the data analysis resources available to the team, Shell invested in Blink Mobile, a sales force automation solution developed by Microsoft solutions partner Blink Systems. The investment in this application is a reflection of Shell's strategy to increase productivity throughout its distributor network with the use of better-equipped devices. Automatic updating is another important advantage of the Blink Systems application. Now Shell distributors have a tool that streamlines searches, accelerates the ordering process and is easy to use for the sales force. Thanks to the incorporation of the Windows Phone-based app, the network is now easier to use and more practical in terms of information gathering.
In addition to the cost benefit and reliability of the platform, Windows Phone integrates seamlessly with the rest of the Microsoft servers used at Shell. Windows Phone supports advanced security and administration solutions, which can be synced with other devices running the same platform. "This effortless integration has been a determining factor in the decision-making process for companies such as Shell," said Celso Winik, managing director of Windows Phone at Microsoft.

Chili's® Grill & Bar Innovates the Guest Dining Experience with Introduction of Ziosk® Tablets
New tabletop tablets improve engagement, quality and speed of service by providing digital ordering, entertainment and self-service payment in more than 800 company-owned restaurants
DALLAS, Sept. 17, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Ziosk, makers of the world's first ordering, entertainment and pay-at-the table tablet, and Chili's® Grill & Bar announced today a partnership to bring tabletop tablets to all company-owned restaurants nationwide by the first half of 2014.
With the primary purpose of enhancing the guest experience, the Ziosk 7-inch tablet will be displayed on each table in the restaurant, giving guests the ability to interactively peruse menu items and specials as well as order beverages and desserts whenever the craving strikes. Additionally, when not engaging with their server, guests can play games together, share their real-time feedback with the brand and pay the check right at the table the moment they choose.
The new Ziosk tablets complement the fun and personal dining experience Chili's is known for, while putting the convenience and control of on-demand ordering, entertainment and payment all at the guests' fingertips. The tablets also perfectly align with the brand's efforts to re-image all company-owned restaurants, driving relevancy with today's guests.
"Results from a multi-market test of Ziosk prove this next step in Chili's innovation is a win for our guests, team members and the brand as a whole," said Wyman Roberts, CEO and president of Brinker International and president of Chili's Grill & Bar. "Embraced as a tool to help team members create an even better dining experience, we saw improvements in guest satisfaction and engagement from many different touch points within the restaurant, including Chili's guest feedback surveys and Email Club."
With Ziosk tablets soon available at 823 restaurants nationwide, Chili's is also meeting the growing demand for guest-facing technology. In a Consumer-Facing Technology Survey conducted by Technomic in 2012, 51 percent of respondents considered it important for restaurants to integrate technology into ordering.
"Chili's has a vision for casual dining in a connected world," said Austen Mulinder, CEO of Ziosk. "Integrating Ziosk tablets into the Chili's experience will give guests the convenience, speed and control that Ziosk uniquely provides - it is digitally enhanced dining at its very best."

Additional AT&T Foundry® Innovation Center Opens In Plano
New facility will speed innovation in Machine-to-Machine and Connected Device technology, creating a smarter world
DALLAS, Sept. 17, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The second AT&T Foundry® facility in Plano, just north of Dallas, officially opened today as the home of cutting-edge development around machine-to-machine solutions and connected devices.
With this new facility, AT&T will develop innovative products and services that improve your life and livelihood in a variety of ways. We'll do this by bringing network connectivity and intelligence to both existing devices and new hardware. Imagine, for example, the ability to track the location of a suitcase and report when it has been opened as a traveler moves from one airport to another. Or think of soil sensors in a corn field that can automatically test the moisture in the dirt, and then signal the irrigation system to turn on when needed.
We will work with our business customers to develop and refine these sorts of innovative ideas, and then take those concepts to this new AT&T Foundry to quickly turn them into working prototypes and platforms with broad industry applications. These sorts of machine-to-machine and connected device technologies are commonly referred to as the "Internet of Things."
"Adding intelligence and connectivity to a new and wide range of machines is a huge opportunity, and we welcome the challenge," said John Donovan, Senior Executive Vice President of AT&T Technology and Network Operations, AT&T. "This new AT&T Foundry facility has the capability to rapidly prototype hardware and develop the sophisticated software needed in the growing M2M and connected device space."
The AT&T Foundry is equipped with all the tools to make that happen, such as a 3D printer, a shielded copper testing room called a Faraday Cage that blocks external radio frequency signals, and more. AT&T can collaborate on site with a customer, build a prototype in hours, test it, refine and move on to the next stage. No waiting for days for parts or samples to be shipped from overseas.
"AT&T already has a huge role in this emerging market, with 15.2 million connected devices and growing, an increase of 50 percent from the first half of 2012," said Chris Hill, Senior Vice President, Advanced Solutions, AT&T Business Solutions. "More specifically, we've experienced a 38 percent increase in M2M customers in the past year as we continue to connect machines and develop applications to meet the unique needs of different vertical markets. Our goal with this new facility is to move faster to help our global customers develop prototypes and test ideas at a rapid pace and then quickly bring those concepts to market."
"As the Internet of Things continues to evolve, so does the technology and how businesses and consumers use it," said Chris Penrose, senior vice president, AT&T Emerging Devices. "We are committed to developing new customer experiences in a number of areas, including item-tracking, the connected car and telematics, mHealth, education, and home. The AT&T Foundry helps us quickly deliver on this commitment."
This new facility also represents a literal doubling down on AT&T's innovation investment in Plano and the larger Dallas area. The center sits one floor above the original AT&T Foundry facility, which opened in 2011. The two facilities will be regular collaborators, with the downstairs team often developing the software and services for the hardware being printed, soldered and assembled upstairs. Indeed, all of our innovation centers collaborate closely, creating a "network of Foundries" that accelerates innovation.
"The AT&T Foundry® is all about delivering new innovations as quickly as possible, and to accomplish that you need a skilled workforce, as well as an environment where creativity, collaboration and entrepreneurship are prized," said Plano mayor Harry LaRosiliere. "Plano is the ideal site for this new innovation center, as the original AT&T Foundry® facility proved. We are so excited that we are deepening our relationship with AT&T and I anxiously await the amazing projects that will come out of this new location."
The new location will also, as with our other AT&T Foundry centers, host hackathons, workshops and other events designed to help local hardware developers and enthusiasts learn new skills, network and get input from our staff.
There are five AT&T Foundry locations. In addition to the two Plano locations, we also have innovation centers in Palo Alto, Calif., Atlanta, Georgia, and Ra'anana, Israel. The Palo Alto location focuses on consumer technology, the Atlanta team is working on projects related to Digital Life, mobility, U-verse and connected car, while Israel is developing back-office technologies. AT&T Foundry sponsors include Alcatel-Lucent, Amdocs, Cisco, and Ericsson, as well as Intel and Microsoft. Together, AT&T and the sponsors have invested more than $100 million in the AT&T Foundry program.

Turkey's First Domestic High-Tech Smart Phone, the Turkcell T40
ISTANBUL, September 17, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --
Turkcell (NYSE:TKC, ISE: TCELL), the leading technology and communication company in
Turkey, continues to develop and invest in Turkey with its latest debut, the first local
smart phone: the 'Turkcell T40'. Turkcell has sold nearly 1 million T-series smart phones
to date, and its newest smart phone has been developed exclusively by Turkish designers
and engineers. With HD quality sound, advanced camera features, a new generation dual-core
processor and a 4-inch display for a price that everyone can afford, the T40 will be
available to consumers by the end of September 2013.
Turkcell had announced that it was taking the step towards developing a smart phone
for the first time in February at the World Mobile Congress held in Barcelona. The smart
phone, which was given the code name "Gebze", came into production phase within 6 months
after completing all design and software developments. The Turkcell T40 was developed at
Turkcell's R&D base Turkcell Technology, and draws attention for its distinguished
features and design. With its superior HD audio quality, the Turkcell T40 also provides
better sound quality for multimedia applications, and features an advanced camera that
turns experiences into impressive photos and videos. The interface designed specifically
for the T40 promises to simplify the day to day lives of its users.
Turkcell Chief Executive Officer Sureyya Ciliv said, "People's trust in the Turkcell
brand has once more become apparent with the interest that has been shown to the T-series
phones, which were named after our company. The T-series journey began with a vision of
equal of opportunities to mobile internet, and since then, Turkcell has sold nearly 1
million T-series smart phones, thereby contributing 500 million TL to the economy. Now we
are taking this goal even further with Turkey's first Smart phone developed by Turkish
engineers. With a special interface designed according to the habits of Turkish users, and
a price that gives everyone the ability to access Turkcell's rich mobile application
world, users will be one step ahead, and able to reach information anywhere at any time.
Looking at the first six months of 2013, compared to the same period of last year we see
an increase of 7%, to 6.2 million mobile phones being imported. In the first half of 2013
there was also an increase of 11% in the number of mobile phones that are brought in from
abroad by travelers. With a large part of these imported phones being smart phones, our
aim should be to ease the burden on the current account deficit. Today, Turkey has one of
the world's best mobile communications infrastructures. As the number of mobile Internet
users' increases, the preference towards smart phones will increase. We should be able to
develop high-tech smart phones with our local and human resources. Our aim with the
Turkcell T40 is to encourage others in the sector to also develop a local smart phone,
thereby contributing to the Turkish economy. I would like to thank all those who have
taken part, and I sincerely wish that the T40 brings even further success for Turkcell."
T40 Features:
- Turkcell T40 makes a difference with the special Android interface
developed by Turkish engineers, a back case that has Turkish touches, sound designs
and an "icon display" that helps Turkish people to easily access the applications they
use most during the day.
- The "lock screen" of the Turkcell T40 allows you to see unread messages,
missed calls, and your e-mails without unlocking the screen, and allows one-touch
answering. The "icon display", consisting of 9 icons, contains shortcuts to Favorite
Contacts, Often Used Applications, Messaging, E-mail, Photos, integrated cloud
application, Facebook, Calendar and Search. The message, alarm, bell and other sounds
of the T40 carry a feeling that is particular to Turkey.
- With its HD sound feature, the device, with a clear and intelligible voice
transmission to attain a better sound experience, also stands out in conference calls
and voice recognition systems. T40's Noise Cancellation feature moves one step further
in advanced sound technology: the "Dual Microphone" microphone solution; one
microphone takes the user's voice and transmits this in the best quality while the
other detects and filters out background noise. With the device's SRS Certified
Surround Sound Technology, Multimedia applications such as Turkcell TV, Turkcell Music
and Fizy are supported with excellent sound quality.
- Together with a front camera that allows video calls, the device has a 5 MP
Flash back camera, and with its advanced features and Zero-Shutter Delay every moment
may be captured. The camera of the Turkcell T40 also features Face Detection, a
function to take photos in HDR quality and Automatic Scene Recognition.
- The Turkcell T40 has a 4GB built-in memory and weighs only 135 grams. It also
has a Qualcomm 1.2 GHz dual-core processor and a screen size of 4 inches. It operates
on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. The battery of the device that has been designed with a
