I mean really really really really oh so fine. It's a nothin', it's a nothin, it's a nothin but a slap in the face. It's a nothin, its a nothin, it's a nothin but a big Rat Race.

Cough cough, anyways, I believe this is one of the funniest movies ever that doesn't rely on fart jokes to be funny (Cough, cough Austin Powers, cough cough). It ranks up there with Undercover Brother, The Blues Brothers movies, Adam Sandler movies, Takin' Care of Buisness, K9, the Rush Hour flicks and The Ghostbusters movies as the funniest movies ever in my book. Think about it for a minute, It has Rowan Atkinson (Mr. Bean), Seth Green (Scott Evil), Cuba Gooding Junior, Whoopi Goldberg and John Cleese (The New Q in Bond movies) all in one movie (plus a couple of other people whose names I can't recall), doing funny stuff. The movie is set up as random people out of a Casino are picked by the owner (Cleese) to do a race from Vegas to Silver City, New Mexico, for $2 million so he can bet against his rich buddies on who will win. Imagine the possibilities!

Michael: Jodie, how's my schedule look for today?
Jodie: You've got a conference and dinner party at the Japanese Embassy regarding wildlife protection.
Michael: Oh, yeah...sorry, but I'll have to cancel that. I'm heading out to save America!

Yeah that movie was fucking halarious! I waited and waited for it to come out to buy it...and then it was there...and I bought it. I think I'm going to go watch that right now.

Compared to Clerks, The Big Lebowski, the Monty Python flicks, Young Frankenstein, etc... I didn't like this movie.

Eh, Clerks was fucking horrible! It tried too hard to be funny. That bloody movie made me waste all that fucking time that I could have used to watch something that was ACTUALLY funny! Horrible, Horrible, Horrible! Waste of time, the jokes were lame...it was friggin' pathetic!

Apparently you've never heard of "slapstick" humor. One-liners, gritty production, made for less than $30,000, and given the NC-17 rating when it first came out. Movies like Clerks, and others I could mention, (Donnie Darko, The Big Lebowski, Pi) show us that you do not need an all-star cast to make a quality movie. And you do not need a heavy budget to make art. That's not to say that Clerks is perfect, because it's not. But there is humor in there that even your Offspring-esque attitude could enjoy. I'm reminded of Dante telling Randal after he asks to go to the funeral; "You hate people" and Randal responds; "But I love gatherings. Isn't it ironic?"

Trust me, Clerks isn't perfect. But it's far better than this tripe America is trying to feed you as "funny" now-a-day's, Adam Sandler movies after Happy Gilmore and Billy Madison, Undercover Brother, Legally Blonde, Austin Powers 2 & 3, *FRIENDS*, Will & Grace, ugh... the list goes on and on. And it makes me sick. Kids today will watch movies like "You Got Served" and eat it up, but think Star Wars is boring or Gone With The Wind is "too fucking long". They will embrace "edgy" movies like XXX and think that Pi was "too fucking hard to get" or Thirteen was "fucking gay" or Elephant "was just plain stupid because you never learn anything about the other characters."

Trust me, I'd rather waste my time watching Clerks and the like than the drivel that's out there now.

All I can tell you, man, is that all the "funny" movies and television shows that you listed right that "America is trying to feed me" are all lame! And I have heard of slapstick humor...it's retarded! Alright, I like ACTUAL funny television shows and movies, not crap. I'm glad Friends stopped airing and same with Seinfeld...they both sucked! I love The Simpsons, Married With Children, Bevis and Butthead, Invader Zim, The Young Ones...and yes you can disagree with me if you want to, because I know that a lot of you in here don't like it: That 70's Show! Now those have real humor that make me laugh out loud literally. With shows like Seinfeld, I know the joke before they even make it...it's horrible, therefore I end up not laughing because it is so below my matured humor that it means nothing and is just lame! And I HATE it! Those movies and shows are a waste of my time. Alright, to name a particular movie that is EXTREMELY not funny that, for some reason, tons of people thought it was halarious (me, my sister and my aunt were the only ones in the theatre that weren't laughing) but, anyways: My Big Fat Greek Wedding...that was utterly boring and the jokes, again, were lame. I go to watch a comedy to laugh, not to roll my eyes or leave or be bored with it...It's supposed to be entertainment, not a group of friends hanging out all the time with a chick that sings about a cat that smells bad, or those stupid shows where there's a family and they learn a new lesson each day...those fucking chimps! I fucking HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE the olsen twins! They look like monkeys and are still playing the same part of being "good girls" well, now they're kinda slutty...but, damn...I'm not about to sit down and watch any bull shit they put on televison or out in the movies...if the show sucks or the movie sucks, I'm flipping the channel or walking out of it. I can't stand stuff that I absolutely HATE! Sure I'll see the first episode if the show just came out you know just to see what it's all about, but if it really sucks, like really really sucks...I won't hesitate to say good-bye. But, I'm sick of typing the same thing over and over again...so 'nough of that.

I actually enjoyed Clerks, I was laughing for most of the movie (that dead guy with the boner, priceless). My friends were telling me about Donnie Darko and how it's a good movie but confusing or some shit like that. So naturally I now want to see it. I get my jollies off of being confused (that's why I like Serial Experiments Lain and Silent Hill), things like that expand your mind for a while and make you find out the meaning on your own. Or if it's impossible to find the meaning, you can come up with your theories and compare them to other people's. That's what I do with Arte all the time.
To continue; I liked Friends, but mostly the older ones, around 95-98/99. I really don't like Adam Sandler movies much anymore, they're incredibly formulaic. Guy meets girl, guy has weird conflict to overcome, guy overcomes it, guy gets the girl. That's just about every Adam Sandler movie in a nutshell. Think about it, really.
And GOD do I hate these "adrenaline pumping" movies (XXX, Fast and the Furious, You Got Served, etc, etc), it seems like the main point of the movie is the action scenes and the plot is secondary, it really should be the other way around.
It truly saddens me that people in my age group find these movies to be the greatest thing since sliced bread. For example (this isn't a movie but still a good example), I was listening to this guy in my math class who's in a metal band (they suck), and he was saying how in his class they had to make him read Fahrenheit 451. Now I personally loved this book, but I could understand why somebody would not, anyway; he was basically saying how he didn't even bother to crack open the book and that reading shit like that is for losers and pussies and fags (I'm guessing his reading average is somewhere in the 2.4 range). Then he and his friend went on to talking about this great "book" they read about how to make your amps sound their very best. Apparently it's the greatest book ever written and everyone should check it out...

IT'S A FUCKING INSTRUCTION MANUAL.

Things like this make me really lose faith in the next American generation...

Yeah, "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" was not funny, in my opinion. I don't get what the big deal over it was.

And what exactly makes a sense of humor "mature"? Is it cracking historical jokes such as Eddie Izzard does? Or is it making sure the punch line of a joke isn't known to the audience before it actually hits? Maybe it's understanding that the timing, presence, facial expression, and situation a comic is trying to convey at that point all have factors in whether or not a joke is funny. Perhaps it's understanding that if you are not able to relate to a joke, then you may not find it funny. I think this is what your problem is with Clerks. And Seinfeld. Sort of like Lost in Translation. If you weren't able to relate to the characters, you would think it's a very boring movie. I sincerely think this is the case because most, well, all of the comedies you have named were geared to people in your age group. Either way, I think as you grow you will begin to find the humor that you say such movies and shows are lacking.

EDIT: As for Donnie Darko, it's an excellent movie. They're going to re-release it into theatres soon. The Director's Cut version if I'm not mistaken.

If history is going to repeat itself (as it usually does), then it WILL be re-released, but only in a few theatres. Like ones in the deep south with those guys from "Deliverance". I think I didn't find "Lost in Translation" funny for the same reason you said. A lot of people liked it, so there had to be something to it. Then again a lot of people like Spongebob Squarepants...but there's nothing to that. It's just stupid.
