I read an article stating that the U.N. has issued a Doomsday Announcement stating the world cannot continue to support the human in habitants. What global measures do you think should be taken to slow our progression to oblivion?

I don't see it as a global measure. I think every coun try should impose measures, specially the US and China. And we should all be doing out part.

Discontinue welfare. People nowadays have children just so they can have a nice income tax return. Welfare aids those people, therefore, people begin to "work" the system. This is one of the main problems this world faces.

Space would be cool and all but who is to say that we wont follow our past mistakes? The past lingers as a shadow. People are neither aware consciously nor unconsciously of it unfortunately. Otherwise why are we reliving past failures?

Mecha would be nice to have, war though like Aron said would be inevitable though. Plus like in Gundam SeedHuge Grinestiny people might start wars to to gain profits on mecha!

Another solution, according to my ginger friend here, is a nuclear war. I for one am not trying to go out in a Gundam and start fighting. The pilots that die in the Gundam series die HARD HORRIBLE deaths! I rather die just getting shot or something, not blown, sliced, or mutilated.

Well I think the more intelligent way to go about is first establish a lunar colony, from there establish another space station, then develop Xenon based engines to travel to Mars(at this present time the only planet thats probably habitable). That is of course if scientists don't develop a light speed traveling craft.

I wanna know why cant this world be like Final Fantasy VIII they developed a cannon that could send you to the moon in less than 15mins. If we can take that concept and apply it reality, life would be much more fascinating!

If only there were more like you that was concerned 50 years ago this planet might have a chance. As it stands right now, we are going to run out of clean air and clean water within the next hundred years. We might even run out of land if the ice caps keep nothing that way they do. It is like the old saying "day late and dollar short".

I fail to see the relationship between people on welfare and the corporate activities that add to much of the pollution that threatens us. Most of those on welfare arent' having children for the express purpose of remaining on welfare, where I live anyway. Instead, their major issue is affording decent reliable birth control.

Care to elaborate on the welfare issue? I am curious.

Tachyons travel at light speed as do photons...

Accelerating to light speed is impossible.

Remember, there are other ways to cross long distances than traditional travel.

The concept of warp travel is actually not FTL drives. It is the process of creating a warp bubble and in your reference frame, you aren't traveling faster than light.

I'd rather see worm hole travel like in Freespace 2. Open a rift and go.

Global measures. With all the smaller countries warring on each other and the tense relationships between the larger countries what makes you think anyone’s going to agree on a global action solution?
-

Discontinue Welfare. Hmm. Yes, that would fix a lot of problems but it would also cause a few in time. I do know about a lot of (mostly Mexican) “Aliens” that jump into our country and have “Anchor babies” and leech off the welfare that my taxes are paying for, and that’s a huge waste of food and time, most cases people aren’t even working to try to better themselves. So a slap to the face for them would be a great wake up call to get them motivated.
However I do also know people who are trying to work and take care of their families and go to school who don’t work the system like that. It’s hard. What needs to happen is they need to keep background checks on people and monthly visits to see if the people are trying to work and see what their house/apartment looks like on the inside. Sadly, there are not enough Welfare employees to check all the people living on Welfare yet.
So I guess you’re right.
-
Past mistakes. Exactly what I’d be afraid of. People have grown to be so lazy and creatures of habit. Working a new planet would take a lot of hard work and sacrifices and to be honest I don’t think a majority of humans could handle that. Especially after we’ve settled, not ruining it like Earth. People know that they’re not supposed to waste but they will anyway because over the generations it’s been almost bred in.

-
Ha! Modern Conveniences!
Never mind that the electricity that such things take to run as well as the micro and radiation waves that come off things like that also a part of what’s ruining this planet.
This is not to say it would be banned and never allowed. . .
Look at what most TV is, lame ass reality TV shows and later night anime.
Now. I like my anime, but that’s about all I use my TV for, and games. . .
But look at what it’s doing to society, kids are lying around playing games and getting fat. I blame a lot of modern day conveniences for the state of the world.
I think if modern day devices were brought restrictions would need to be set in place.
-

Fail to see the relationship between people on welfare and the corporate activities that add too much of the pollution that threatens us. -
Where are you? Any decent sliding scale clinic will give you the depo shot (which is what I have and I get mine for 50 dollars on a sliding scale fee because I make less then the poverty rate so I don’t buy that crap)
The shot is one of the most advanced methods of birth control with a 99.9% prevention rate so if people can’t afford 50 dollars ever 3-4 months then you have issues.

As for the relationship you’re so curious about let me specify.
First let me state that companies and businesses are closely related to the population of the country so therefore one directly affects the other.
People on welfare depend on the money and food stamps that they get for free, or very cheaply, while in some cases people actually need this money most welfare people get so much per child they merely buy off brand items and have money left over.
I used to have a friend who lived in the projects of the city where everyone was on welfare and they all had big screen TVs and fancy furniture etc.
What millions of welfare people are really buying is electronics and such.
With a free and widespread demand so high companies are forced to produce more of these in demand products which causes more waste and pollution due to ineffective disposal of wastes.
Most companies are on a Supply and Demand state of mind. With the increase in welfare families as well as the amount of money made by government etc. employees the demand is raised, so the supply is up.
There’s you’re connection.
-

Of course! Because living inhabitable planets are a dime a dozen. Brilliant!

Maybe they could make a law or something that people can’t have more than a certain amount of kids
-
I’m sure that countries like china have a restriction on children they can have.
It works in the way that the population goes down. . .
However, if a family wants a boy and conceives a girl what do you think happens?
They either gets put up for adoption of thrown in a trash can.
Think about what would have happened if your parents had you and didn’t want you, and just threw your newborn body into the trash.
I think certain restrictions need to be enforced, but not as severely as that.

I think I'm having amnesia and deja vu at the same time
I think I've forgotten this before. . .

Well, I can tell you right now the main problem with this world is money. Stop and think about it, oil prices go up so gas prices go up so delivery of products via ground go up. This only means that the price of the product as to go up so that they can afford to ship it that way. That $.25 candy bar just became a $.50 candy bar. People crave money which makes the old saying "Money Is the Root of All Evil" true. Now I cannot pinpoint the exact items price it goes to that triggers everything else, if I could I would be a millionaire. Because all those people who have money to pay me to keep my mouth shut.

Everything wrong with this planet is connected to money. Do away with money and we might just have a chance. It takes money to eat, to clothe oneself, to keep a roof over our heads, and to get anywhere in this world. And because there are people want more money than what they already have they will keep doing what they do to get more money. Tearing down rain forests to provide oxygen to the world, polluting the atmosphere with factories, producing combustible engines that pollute the air, depleting the number of phishing the ocean, producing products that destroy the ozone and so many other things.

Now if you can figure out how to get rid of money in our society then you will just grabbed the golden ring.
