I switched from Yu-Gi-Oh to Magic, after I had a falling out with the TV show (roughly around the time the movie came out). I still have all of my Pokemon card, however.

Michael: Jodie, how's my schedule look for today?
Jodie: You've got a conference and dinner party at the Japanese Embassy regarding wildlife protection.
Michael: Oh, yeah...sorry, but I'll have to cancel that. I'm heading out to save America!

what's so great about some flimsy over-expensive playing cards with pictures of mutated dragons on them ?

the alternatives:
playing cards:
French playing cards. contain 32 to 55 cards per deck: one or ace, two (optional), three (optional), four (optional), five (optional), six (optional), seven, eight, nine, ten, jack, queen, king or the four suites hearts, clubs, spades and diamonds each, and zero to three jokers. Has alternative sale names, the more common being: Skat deck for the minimal variant, Bridge deck for the 54-card variant (2 jokers) and Rummy deck for two 55-card decks. Available in every European-influenced part of the world and usable for many games, the better ones being Whist, Bridge, Skat, Rummy, Canasta, Poker etc. the worse ones include cheat and slapjack Wink

pictures of mutated dragons: TV, childrens' books.

over-expensive: damn, you got me. that's the feature you're after, right ?

(note: these games (yugeeou, pokemon etc) *are* played on this continent as well)

Yu Gi Oh is for people who don't understand how to excel at Magic. Even the designer of the Yu Gi Oh card game himself felt that Magic was "too complicated" and wanted to make something similar but easier. Where Magic is a game of strategy, skill, and luck where one does not necessarily have to have the most expensive cards to build a viable deck, Yu Gi Oh is a card game based on money where one does have to have the most expensive and powerful cards to have a viable deck.

The Magic: The Gathering web site is translated into more languages then the UN's website. How do you figure more people play Yu Gi Oh?

The playing time difference between the two should tell you one thing; it takes a lot more thinking to play Magic than it does to play Yu Gi Oh. How hard is it to decide of 1800 attack points is bigger than 1600 attack points and 900 defense points? How long does it take to decide whether or not to shock a first turn Llanowar Elves or Birds of Paradise to disrupt an opponent's acceleration, to wait and see what they accelerate into and use the shock on it, or to aim the shock straight at them and deal some quick damage?

I ment more people play where i live, not round the world ^_^

As far as it being complicated sure magic is more difficult, but thats not why i switched. If you want to talk about complicated then try playing L5R, which magic was based off of (as far as i know) for magic, it was just boring. after about 2 years of playing was getting to be the same thing over and over. everyone's deck had a certain point and was the same thing over and over. that was one of the reasons y i switched.

In yugioh there are things that magic doesnt have. Like the difficulity of building your deck. I change my deck every week in yugioh. How often do you change your deck in magic? Another thing. One mistake can cost you the game in yugioh. Magic its ahh oh well i can make up for it later.

sure yugioh is a bit more expensive, but not by much. the most expenisve card i bought was 20 dollars. in magic was the same thing, just not as many.

Ah thats where you are wrong

My favorite part of magic was the deck creation. Making unbeleivable clever, efficient, and powerful decks was so intricate and the combos were endless. To make a truely good deck, the combos, speed and efficiency would be so fast that if the other person made a mistake it would be over in minutes. Also good decks when they compete, one mistake might not cost them the game, it WILL cost them the game. Understandably you probably never played with REAL decks or made REAL decks so your opinions would make sence with that experience, but once you play with real decks, it becomes and entirely new game

L5R is similar to Magic: The Gathering but honestly I prefer Magic. I think in terms of difficulty they are roughly equal and where the alternate win conditions would come in (Political Victories) Magic's answer would be a mill deck.

I'd also like to know what deck you played if you stuck with one build? There are should ALWAYS be tweaking done to maximize the efficiency and power of your deck. This is deteremined usually by the metagame in your area, how popular certain decks or deck types are and what direction you want to go with your deck.

One mistake can easily cost you the game in Magic. If you don't believe that then you haven't been playing in a very competitive environment.

Which is why Magic is more fun.

It's like comparing checkers and chess. Checkers is easier and faster, but Chess takes more strategy.

That's not true at all. If you can do inequalities, you can play Yu Gi Oh. The same is not true for Magic or for the building of Magic decks.

Let me give you a small example:

Two cards,

Shock. Cost: R
Type: Instant
Effect: Deal 2 damage to target creature or player.

Seal of Fire. Cost: R
Type: Enchantment
Effect: Sacrifice Seal of Fire: Deal 2 damage to target creature or player.

These cards may seem like they do the same thing but they are useful in completely different environments. If I were building a deck with burn such as these I would first ask myself what environment I was playing in. Am I going to be playing 1v1 or Multiplayer? In 1v1, shock is almost always the better card. In multiplayer, shock doesn't come close to Seal of Fire.

I suggest trying to find some new people to play against in Magic if you really think there is no strategy in building a deck. You can't just throw random jank in like you can in Yu Gi Oh and have a viable one, it takes careful consideration and planning to build a good deck. If you think it is so easy I suggest you try and play against any of the PTQ Top 8 qualifying decks around right now with a deck you have built yourself and then tell me that strategy is no part of building a deck in Magic.

EDIT: If you would like to try, I will play on MWS or Apprentice with you using a Top 8 PTQ deck.

The building of a good Magic deck can take days, and you have to do a lot of research. There's more than just combos, you have to anticipate what your opponent wants and then build your deck around both that and what YOU want to do.

It's really pretty complicated, whereas I've whipped up damn decent Yu-Gi-Oh decks in less than 30 minutes, whereas my best Magic deck took a total of a week with both test runs and trials as well as just the original obtaining and composition of the deck.

In the local Magic group around here, some people take WEEKS to build their deck and it womps hard.

Ted Bundy, Albert Fish, John Wayne Gacy,
Edward Gein, Charles Manson, and Harvey Carignan.
