I like playing blackjack more than poker. I have some strategies that I use while playing blackjack, but the most recent one I added was to open with a good amount of money to have wiggle room.

For instance, if I was betting $10-20, I would open with $400 so I can open two hands at once to "change up" the cards. I have noticed people play this way and I like it. You cannot open with too little money and then keep adding opening with more. It just doesn't work and I think you'll lose more money that way.

Granted, I don't do so hot gambling... but I still enjoy it Smile.

the dealer will ALWAYS win more than you...
try Texas Hold 'em...at least you play against other people and not the House. Little more salt on the wound when the House continues to take your money.

I don't like playing against other players.

And you could win at blackjack... You just need to have luck on your side.

This guy was betting wrong even if he new the advantages.

Quote

In retrospect I didn’t do a good job disguising my skills when I got barred. For sure, I was pretty brazen with my betting spread. The greater the advantage I had, the more money I was betting. Mathematically, that’s the ideal way to bet but the problem comes when you jump from say a small $5 bet on one hand to $25 on the next hand especially if the hand lost. Most blackjack players don’t bet this way and by doing so, I was raising the red flag to the pit boss that just maybe I was counting.

I would cool off the bets, not dropping it so damn low.

You need to open with at least 20 bets... in your case that would be about right then.

I like three card poker... I really don't like trying to win money from other people nor do I have the guts for it.

Gambler's Ruin.

Michael: Jodie, how's my schedule look for today?
Jodie: You've got a conference and dinner party at the Japanese Embassy regarding wildlife protection.
Michael: Oh, yeah...sorry, but I'll have to cancel that. I'm heading out to save America!

For those of you not familiar with Gambler's Ruin, it's a scientific equation that states that even if the odds of winning are mathamatically in your favor, if you continue gambling after a certain point (decribed usually as the "apex"), your "luck" will change and you will end up "ruined" as part of your desperate need to gain your money back to what it was at it's highest point, and to furthermore push it past the highest point. This is due to the human qualities of greed and lust.
For example, if I entered a casino with $100 and got up to $400, any dip in that money would make me stay at the casino to get that money back to $400. In addition, the greed in all people's personalities would force me to try to keep pushing that money upwards. This applies to all forms of gambling, and the stock market.

It does not apply to all players, though.

I did go up the second to last time in AC... I was up over $400 in total, but settled at $300 over (split between my father and I).

If you can limit your spending (I only take what I can afford to piss away) and put a cap on your winnings, you should avoid this.

But that is the only way to avoid the equation, and it is harder to do than many think. And the stock market makes the equation go into effect in double time.

I'm not much of a gambler, but I wouldn't bother doing Blackjack because I don't have the balls to get up to a table.

I stick with the slot machines if I'm in a casino... and that is rarely.
