Bush's Imigration Speech Old Tue May 16, 2006 6:42:42 PM #17771 Perm Link
Anyone catch the speech? I liked a few parts of it. The part when he stated that English should be forced onto people becoming citizens and the border control issue... wait, the borders are NO issue. You need to SECURE the borders of this country.

What I find is crap is the whole amnesty thing that he is pushing for. Screw yourself. I saw allow them rights and make them pay taxes, but no citizenship for illegals in this country. They are ILLEGAL, that means that did something WRONG.

Bush is not conservative! He believes in the unified world crap. He wants to sabotage America and he is doing it right now. We need to SECURE OUR BORDERS, enforce a NATIONAL LANGUANGE, and make sure immigrants ASSIMILATE into current American culture. We are a nation of immigrants and we should respect that root, but LEGALLY.

While that is true in a sense (I don't agree with you as to why though), as long as Bush is in Iraq and Afghanistan, it is impossible. The National Guard is far too depleted to enforce any kind of laws surrounding the border.

If you allow them rights, then you make them citizens. By your logic (at least the way I see it), anyone who has done any crime doesn't have the right of a speedy trial, a right of attorney, or even the right of free speech. And, by the way, almost all illegal immigrants pay taxes.

I'm sorry, but that is bullshit. The only "one American culture" the country has is the part of the annoying tourist. There is no "national language." Sure, the predominant one is English, but different sections of the country have different dominant languages. And making immigrants "assimilate into the current American culture" goes against some main principles this country was initially founded for.

Michael: Jodie, how's my schedule look for today?
Jodie: You've got a conference and dinner party at the Japanese Embassy regarding wildlife protection.
Michael: Oh, yeah...sorry, but I'll have to cancel that. I'm heading out to save America!

I agree with you on this. The National guard is stretched. They won't be there for manpower, just logistical support.

No, by allowing them rights (trial by jury, paying taxes, etx), I'm saying they we are saying that they are here and should be supporting this country. By not granting citizenship, they can't do many things such as vote. I'm sure you have no idea that many people that are living here legally are not US citizens yet they pay taxes and are covered under our laws. By the way, not almost all illegal immigrants pay taxes and if they do, they can get MORE back: http://www.theamericanresistance.com/articles/art2004jan04.html http://www.cis.org/articles/2004/fiscalrelease.html

My above point, there NEEDS to be a national language. You sound like you want to dilute America into one of those types of "free trade zones" comprised of Canada, America, and Mexico. This country has evolved and because of that laws evolve. It sounds like you support stripping all the borders and allowing a steady flow of people to enter into this country and bleed our system dry. America does have a culture today, and if you don't see that, you aren't looking hard enough.

Also, you haven't given any suggestions how to fix the problem. This is typical for people to do when they just like to argue.

Nationalizm is bullshit. It was a good idea when it started in Europe, with nations uniting and becoming stronger, But isolate from the outside world nowadays...
Nationalizm was the first step on the way to the bigger community.... which is. economically speaking, good. and what does isolating help ?

America is not isolating themselves. We depend on trade with other countries (so much so that there is a huge problem) and we don't want to throw that out the window. America should support legal immigration, but securing the borders of our country is something that has to be done.

Does Germany allow an influx of random people from its neighboring countries?

I caught part of the speech, I got home a little late for it because I was exercising, but I liked the idea of putting more guys I think the national guard to help secure the Texas border which is VERY huge. That's actually what I thought would be a good start on securing our borders even before he mentioned it.
