At least you check up on your kids.

That's saying something.

Myspace can be convenient for families and friends to share pictures, information, and messages. I don't think it's a bad idea at all for families, or for school groups. It makes it so much easier to keep in touch with several people at once.

I don't think that the majority of social networking users use the sites to "stalk" other users. I think that the majority of users are pretty inactive. And I really don't think there is a such thing as "stalking" another user. Any information on the site is available to the general public, thus, they wouldn't mind if the other user saw the information. It would be just as easy to "stalk" or harass the person when you see them at school, for example. But nobody really warns you against that.

I have a myspace site but I rarely use it at all. My son has a myspace account as well, however he uses his pretty regularly. I also have a facebook account, but that is mainly for posting my articles that I write, a link to those articles on.

i don't know that much about facebook, but as far as myspace i know some people who uses myspace to sort of get some "recognition" in their music

some uses them to keep in touch with long distance friends

and some(like my friends) uses it as another way to pick up hoes(in their words) and smash

and yes i have a myspace, don't use it very often, only when i'm bored really

people with myspace and facebook rarely have time for real friends because they MS and FB 24/7, its disturbing, some people have a MS and FB for themselves, their pets, their pet rocks, and their 3 week old sandwiches, seriously, both

Wow, I can honestly say that all this talk about MS and FB did perk my interest to the point where I actually went in and updated my MS page. LOL sorry. But alas I am not on it 24/7 I have tons more to do online than that. It is a great tool if you are trying to find old buddies though.

must agree....i'm entirely against networking sites- but, in a zippy and unexpected twist, I use them. & I had that.
myspace I use because all of my college friends (lol like 5 people) use it and they aren't close enough that I call them at all and they aren't completely strangers so its the only way I keep in touch. As for facebook- I actually got that because someone that I care for uses it & he really, really, REALLY enjoys using it no matter the deadbeats, crazies, or stalkers. I stay on it only because of that (I don't talk to anyone but my one high school best friend)- I wish I didn't feel obligated to...

if I had it my way i'd effing get rid of all that crap- its just for
A. Men and women that are losers and can't get any in real life but attempt to score over the internet instead
B. For stalkers- men and women
C. For significant others to get their fix of flirting, insignificant online play, and "Plan B's" if their current bf/gf isn't promising enough
D. For men and women to avoid the rigors of actual dating, friends, and love entirely
E. For loads of bottom of the barrel cheating from second rate hags

I think its really just sad. & desperate. Sh-t I want to delete mines now....

Not sure if the rest of you guys have heard about it, but a 13yo girl named Megan Meier ended up hanging herself after 2 adults living on her street masqueraded as a boy on myspace and ended up harassing her. Really sad stuff.

lol srsly?

Seems a little ridiculous to think that only chimo's, losers, and stalkers use sites like myspace or facebook. MySpace couldn't actually be used to keep in touch with people you've met at shows or to keep up to date on local//unsigned as well as the more popular//signed artists. Facebook couldn't be a convenient way for college peers to keep in touch with out the hassle of leaving a voicemail on a cellphone that some one will hear two weeks after it's actually relevant.

Furthermore, I don't understand why everyone is so against these sites and yet continue to use them because of a "special circumstance". The fact is that these sites succeed at what they aim to do. When it comes to online social networking (or social networking in general), I think the outcome is strongly dependent on the person.

Hmmm...
perhaps i'm biased a bit.
Someone I very much loved cheated on me using Myspace & has many, many terrible women on Facebook- although he claims he doesn't keep open communications something about the whole deal and why he won't get rid of it is fishy to me....Many people i've found use Myspace/Facebook to "hook" up with someone or to find a prospective one night stand. They don't bode so well in my book- honestly, but I used them because many people that I lost touch with in college & high school use them-- its the only way to keep contact.

I still think they are destructive in most cases. For instance, I don't understand why you have to use your full real name on facebook? Where's the security? Lately, there have been very many security breaches on Facebook- they don't safeguard minors at all and now, only after a tirade of bad things happening have they decided to evaluate policies after being prompted countlessly by government officials. Myspace is already in compliance but how many breaches have they had?

You are entirely right, Pancakes. They do succeed at what they do. But I don't think these networking sites will be as good as everyone touts them to be until they safeguard everyone and are willing to take those steps. I agree with you about the outcome of social networking being particular to the individual....but I think safety is still a vast yet pertinent issue here regardless of who uses them and who doesn't.
