Apartments suck Old Fri May 25, 2007 7:11:30 PM #38491 Perm Link
They do. Some people moved in recently and they just let their kids stampede in the halls all through the day and night, which is aggravating. Today one of them pull the fire alarm and it's been ringing for almost a half hour (which isn't the longest it's rang since I've lived here) and the maintenance people said they'd turn it right off but still have not. I'm going crazy from the loud, continuous ringing....

So, yeah, apartments suck. I can't wait until I move.

Huh? Signature? What's going on with that signature?

My friends apt rocks. We can hang out as late as we want & be as loud as we want. The people are really chill there. Too bad he's working tonight. Sad I want to longboard.

Visiting an apartment is different than living in one. Personally, I hate it when people are loud late at night because this complex is old with thin walls (also it's built on a hill so everything is ever so slightly slanted) and I bloody need sleep. I had a problem with someone turning up their TV so loud I may as well have been in the room at the time, I could hear every word clearly and it was fucking 11 PM. I think they moved or something. I hope the yuppiewhatever part people across the way moved because they always had parties in the middle of the night sitting out on the balcony talking loudly about the most inane shit imaginable.

Huh? Signature? What's going on with that signature?

That is the one thing I hate about apartments. You can hear everything going on. That is just ridiculous about the alarm going off for that long.

You think they'd make the walls thicker or something, so you don't hear everyone's business (as it is, you can always hear the obese neighbors a floor about you doing jumping jacks for hours, or at least that's what it sounds like). I'm kinda used to fire alarms going off, although they always drive me crazy. When I lived in Florida there was a hurricane and the fire alarm (much more ear piercing than the one here) got knocked on and didn't go off for 2+ hours. But there was an excuse for that, because the landlords/maintenance people couldn't be there because of the hurricane.

Personally, though, I think one of the people in charge of running a complex should have to live there, because then they'd have an incentive to fix the elevators, turn off fire alarms, and force people to use a goddamn leash when they walk their piddly shit little dogs (next time one of them tries to maul my dog I'm just going to let him eat them. A chihuahua shouldn't attack a German Shepherd)

Hear, hear. The only good experience I had in an apartment complex (actually they were townhouses, but still), was the one where the owner's mother lived in a unit. Once she moved in, the place became tidy and well-kept with quick maintenance.

Now I own a house, which means I have to do my own maintenance and tidy the yard myself. Apartment-living does have some benefits Smile

I've only lived in one apartment, so I can't complain too much. It was on the second floor, and there weren't that many apartments - I think 8 in all. The worst part about it was that it was right next to a railroad track. But, soon, you learn to tune it out.

I know the feeling on the apartment thing. I live on the very bottom floor. You can hear people pounding up the steps every hour of the night. Plus I have 2 small kids and my 4 year old has a habbit of writting on the walls with a sharpie. The paint is so cheap it peals off when you use one of those magic earasers to get it off. On top of that so many of the newer apartments are prefab so they go cheaper on the materials. That's a few reasons why apartments suck.

The world ends now, but new life begins tomorrow... (Gaile Maxus)

I had two bad apartment experiences. One I women in highheels who only entertained after 12am was overhead. Two I moved into the top floor apartment then the landlord converted the attic into an apartment where the flooring just creaked.

Is that entertained as in having parties, or "entertained" as an innuendo? I can sympathize with both - the aforementioned yuppiewhatevers parties and the fresh-out-of-college kids who routinely had noisy sex right above my room in Florida.

Huh? Signature? What's going on with that signature?

Please don't tell me bad stuff about apartments...I move into one on Friday. At least I'm on the top floor (attic apartment...yay?) so I won't have to worry about hearing the people above me stomp around, like I did this past year. I'm just glad that it is a decent apartment, with almost everything new within the past 5 years.

Apartments have an enormous potential to suck. You really just have to find the right one. I've been living in the same apartment for about three years. I've little to complain about.

I hated apartments too. We've gradually worked our from renting apartments to half a duplex to a house. Each time I've been a little more relieved that there were less people to hear doing all sort of things, less trafffic (one neighbor MUST have been a dealer) and less people to complain if we moved the trash can over a couple of inches outside (one neighbor MUST have been paranoid, seriously).

That's awesome! That could go either way, they could be embarrassed or proud.
