Onboard audio is crap Old Sat Nov 18, 2006 11:52:54 AM #28376 Perm Link
Every board that I have used onboard audio with absolutely sucks and the P5B is no different. I'm sticking my hardware Turtle Beach Santa Cruz back in to handle the audio for my system.

Seriously, why can't they get stuff that just works correctly and with a hardware system, not software. I don't like extra fluff!

Tell me about it; I hate anything onboard and insist on not using anything onboard.

hehehe, turtle beach is a nice sound card, I got one of it. The only problem which I hate about this sound card is tha tthey take up pci space, given to the fact that many of today's mobo does not coem with much pci slot:.

I am using a Soundblaster Live! out of an old Compaq.. Its not new, but it does the trick.

Even this old card sounds better than 2006 onboard audio.

Its not who a person is in the inside, but what he does that defines him.

I'm using the old Sound Blaster Live 5.1 right now, I got it back when I built my first Athlon XP way back. I used a Abit KX7-333R MoBo at the time with nothing on board, best OC'ing board out back then.

I have not used internal audio in about 5 years, you can buy a sound blaster for about 25 bucks or even less than that.

Creative is getting pretty cheap too. I picked up an new XI-FI card to replace the onboard audio in a PC and now if I want to hookup my surround sound via the optical digital input like I did with my on-board, I have to buy a $15 accesory + $10 shipping, which connects to the shared digital i/o / mic port. So even if I buy that I am stuck unplugging cables switch between my stereo and using my headset for gaming. The other option it would seem is to buy the platinum version, or the $80 upgrade kit for my card and have all the connectors in the front of the computer which I really dont want. The card comes with no cables whatsover, it has a front panel header which i just found documentation for burried on the web site, so there is some posbiblity i could use both at the same time. Seems on the new generation of card they have reduced the useful ports and made room for what appears to be an game port (not mentioned in the doucmentation), who uses those anymore?
