napoleon dynamite Mon Sep 20, 2004 12:10:39 PM#9940Perm Link
i just saw this and i would say it is the funniest movie i ever saw. Ever. I am definitally going ot buy it as soon as it comes out. If you people have yet to see it, do it. what do u guys think about it?
Napoleon Dynamite really captures what it's like to be a total dork in school. In a world of his own for sure, but he's a likeable guy. Seriously though, this movie had me smiling the whole way through. The funniest scene that had me really cracking up with tears was the first time I saw Napoleon stick that time machine control between his legs. Holy crap that was funny. Got the dvd. Of course, it's an acquired taste, since a few of the people I saw it with didn't get the film, or the jokes. Their loss. I heard a rumor about a sequel, but would it work?
I agree that it was funny at some points, but I seriously was like falling asleep at about the halfway point. It was just sooooo freakiiiiiiin slooooooooooooow.
Unfortunately...the humor is sooooo dry that if you do not have a light heart and good sense of humor, you will not appreciate this movie at all. I know my wife didn't. Heck she barely got half the stuff that was intentionally funny in the movie...I guess some people just don't get it.
edit: dang did I just rant on my own Wife...? nice...
Yeah, the steak toss was funny. I like the scene with the "Time Machine" that juices Napoleon while his brother looks on. Just thinking about the fact they ordered a time machine online and actually thought it could work is funny.
Napoleon Dynamite was highly overrated. It had no plot whatsoever until the last ten minutes of the movie. I found it bland and boring.
The only thing that's good about it is the fact that my friends and I like to turn down the volume (all the way) and dub the voices in ourselves. Then it's funny.

I have a pretty good sense of humor, and I find a lot of things funny, I just don't find most of this movie terribly funny. I get that he's supposed to be a huge dork, and I personally was a dork in a lot of ways in high school. I just didn't find most of the movie to be funny. There were some moments that made me laugh (like the time machine), but overall it was okay at best. I was more impressed with the sound design than the actual story.
Nacho Libre starring Jack Black was directed by the same guy who wrote NDynamite. I saw it. The first 20 minutes were slow, but then it started to get funny in a Napoleon Dynamite kinda way. If you didn't laugh from ND, stay away from NL. Very dry, character based dead pan humor. The humor saved the somewhat dull story.
