Losing Weight Old Thu Nov 3, 2005 7:18:57 PM #13757 Perm Link
In the past two weeks I have started to go on the tredmill for 30 mins each day and lift weights when my legs blow out. My caloric intake for the day is most likely too high to get much weight loss. I do feel much better now that I am exercising, but I'm not losing any weight (that I can tell, but it has only been two week). I want to do the 5 small meals a day thing to try to limit my caloric intake for the day.

Has anyone else had success with the 5 meals per day thing? Mind you, I like food...

My goal is to lose 20 pounds by the New Year and about 30 pounds overall.

2014 is going to be a good year. More content, more streamlining. Be a part of history!

When I wanted to lose weight I just stopped drinking soda (and if I did it was diet soda) and cut down on candy. Other than that I still ate the same way I ever did, hell I was eating pizza four days a week (sometimes for breakfast, lunch, AND dinner!). I walked daily and was doing light weights. I lost twenty-five pounds in a little over two months.

That pizza eating thing sure did piss off my friends.

That doesn't work for me (the soda). I always drink diet since I was younger. My mom was drinking diet when I was growing up and that's the stuff that tastes the best. As for candy, yes, I agree.

I don't think I'm going to change what kind of food I eat, just when I eat it.

In all honesty, it isn't just caloric intake you should watch. You want to increase the amount of dietary fiber and decrease the amount of fat grams as well. that combination with naturally help you lose weight.

Different things work for different people, I work out for a total of 50 minutes 2-3 times per week. I lost what I needed (the little stomache flub that used to peeked out) and gained what I needed (muscle definition and tone all over my body). But, if you want to go the working out way, you have to make sure you're doing the weight machines or cardio machines right or you will be wasting your time. I found out this year that I was doing the weight machines the wrong way. This 70 year old woman with a kickin' body has been showing me what I've been doing wrong, she's like my motivation and my trainer now except I don't pay her a thing, she offers advice to me and critiques me on how I'm doing on certain exercises. If I want to work on a particular part of my body she shows me what I can do, and it's not only one particular machine for one area. Lets say I want to work on my abs, there is the ab crunch machine, 3 different types of leg lifts, about 10 different types of crunches and positions you can do on a mat and to work your obliques there is the torso rotation machine. That in itself is a complete workout.
If you want to do a workout start with cardio to get your body warmed up before the exercise. Dont forget to stretch after your warm up!!otherwise you might get injured. Then start your workout with weights or finnish up more cardio work. Changing up your workout also helps make it interesting so you dont get bored and you can keep being motivated. Entering yourself in a class also motivates you because then you HAVE to go, or you can make friends with someone who goes frequently so they can motivate you as well.
I don't diet at all and I find diet drinks disgusting. I stay away from caffine though because it causes my headaches, I might have one once and a while but that's about it. Usually if I want something carbonated I drink a root beer, most of them don't contain caffine and they haven't given me a headache. During the week I make myself sandwiches, french bread pizzas, deep dish pizzas, night hawks, corn dogs or I go to either subway or whataburger.
I say do what makes you comfortable.

Well Aron i have lost about 15 pounds over 3-4 months. first off try to limit the food intake and the time that you eat, for example try not to eat heavy foods after 6 or 7 PM drink water but dont over do it then you have water weight problem if you drink too much water try to snack trough the day when you start to feel a little hungry you know the healthy shit not candy bars, ice cream, pies or everything considered junk food that will hold you until its time to eat you have to do some research like someone said every one is different what may work for me may not work for you and may work for someone else. with that said just be carefull because it looks like the amount of weight you want to loose seems like alot to me over a short period of time the right amount of weight to loose is about 2-3 pounds a week anything more could be unhealthy.

:-P

Not a big deal actually. I think I lost 5 lbs from when I posted the original. I seem to be bulking up and gained a bit of weight (replacing fat), but now I'm going down. The 5 meals per day thing doesn't work for me. I tried it one week and I got annoyed. I'll stick with the 3 meals. Larger lunch, smaller dinner.

Looks like that avatar bug I noticed still isn't fixed. I'll have that fixed tonight.

The best thing I did was to remove sodas from my list. I had to lose weight due to a hiatal hernia. I found that most of the stuff that is used to subsitute for sugar has more calories than real sugar.

I started to drink water and Ice Tea (no suger). I eat whatever I want, whenever I want, I just eat smaller portions. Also eat the largest meal first than make them smaller as the day goes. I just used the treadmill to walk when the weather was bad or I couldn't walk till after dark. Don't forbid yourself eating anything. Just eat smaller portions. For candy bars, buy snack/bite size then have one or two of them. The more you avoid certain food the more the body wants/crave them.

I manage to lose 50 lbs. Most of it was in the first 2 months. I to work as hard to keep off the weight now, but I do keep away from sodas most of the time. If I have to have the taste, I will buy a small soda fountian size. But I still eat small portions whenever I am hungry and I drink alot of Ice Tea and water. I am holding steady to my lower weight. My doctor is very happy, he would like to see me lose another 20 lbs due to my arthritis (in all my joints) but if I as long as I hold this weight, he doen't bug me about it.

PLEASE.......keep up the exercise.

The human body is slow to react. It will take about 1-2 months of your activity to really see a change. By the sound of how much exercise your doing I estimate that about 1 1/2 months into it you'll see dramatic changes.

The faster you can lower your calorie intake (but within healthy limits) and eliminate a lot or all of your fat intake the faster these changes will take affect. Zero in on fat free foods.

Basically your body has to deplete what fat it already has.

As with any advice consult your Doctor with anything concerning your health.

Month 3 you'll be very happy.

I have been doing a bit over 30 mins every other day on the mill (at least 2 miles). The other days I do a quick 10 minutes and then try to lift some weights working upper and lower body.

I am keeping up with it even though there is little to no change just yet. My parents say I look better, but I don't see any change and my weight is steady Sad.

To lose weight, cardio does the trick...weights just add muscle which makes you seem like you're at the same weight. You can get muscle definition by doing cardio, and cardio can be anything...surfing, boxing (or punching bag), riding a bike, crosscountry, track, jogging, powerwalking, basketball, swimming and etc. I get more of a workout doing cardio than I do lifting weights and I can really see the difference.
How old are you by the way? Because that has to do with it too.

I say keep doing what you're doing. It helps working out 30min-60min three to 5 times a week.

Yes, I'm dragging out an old topic... but I just wanted to report that I hit my goal of 200 LBs. I'll now be concerning myself with tone and muscle more, cardio every other day.

I now do 6mph for 30 mins.

Nice.

The most exercise I get is walking all over campus and playing my drums.

I still would like more of a workout...since my double bass pedals broke, my right calf is more tone than my left...only I can notice, but it bothers me anyways. My friend has a weight room at his apartments, of course I need him to be there because he has the key to it. I plan on going over there this weekend to work out with him...I get to do what I've been wanting to do for weeks and he gets to see me in my workout clothes, it's a win-win situation. Razz
