Apology to Aron, re: Cowboy Bebop [Spoiler] Mon Mar 21, 2005 9:42:24 PM#10991Perm Link
This is the second time in history the name of a show, along with what limited information that comes about it casually, has proven to mislead in the quality of it. I had always figured it was like an old Wild West Show (the circus-like event, not black and white "weekly features") travelling through space. The picture Aron used to use did nothing to fix this world view.
Had it not followed InuYasha on Saturday nights, I would never have watched this. Now, I have "Knocking on Heaven's Door", "The Perfect Sessions" and two of three of the manga...all of which has been gone through thoroughly (waiting for B&N for volumn three). However, I still think if I could only choose between two, I would continue "Firefly" over "Cowboy Bebop". Besides, who knows, in a few years Shinihiro and Keiko might decide that Spike, being the 16 second head of the syndicate was rushed to treatment. The best thing about cartoons is that as long as you've got the voices, you've got the opportunity to pick up from anywhere; look at what people were predicting for "Knocking on Heaven's Door" before production officially began.
This is some of the best story telling that's ever been on television, and I love how the characters are fleshed out. Nothing gets lost in translation (except maybe the depth of the non-English song lyrics and their respective cultural connotations). And the music! What great music! Yoko Kanno is really one of the best out there, especially considering her range, from blues to heavy metal. This show needs several more seasons!
