NEWS:Apre-Big Game "game plan" to prevent TV/furniture tip over deaths and injuries; New research from U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission shares lifesaving steps to take once a new TV is brought home
More Americans will buy a new TV ahead of the Big Game than any other sporting event during the year. New research from U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) found that the average flat panel or CRT TV can have an impact force of thousands of pounds when it falls onto a child from unanchored furniture.
CPSC has previously reported that one child dies every two weeks and one person is injured every 15 minutes when a TV or a piece of furniture falls onto them.
In an effort to highlight the dangers TV and furniture tip-overs pose to children, CPSC researchers conducted 38 drop tests simulating a tip-over of both CRT and flat screen TVs on top of furniture. New and dramatic video footage of these simulations is now available.
CPSC urges consumers to keep safety in mind when buying a new TV. Avoid tip and fall incidents in the home, ask a sales associate for help selecting anti-tip devices. A secured TV is mounted to the wall or anchored to furniture with straps, brackets, or braces to prevent the TV from sliding. And lastly, remember to keep items that might tempt kids to climb, such as toys and remote controls, from the top of the TV and furniture.
B-ROLL INCLUDES: TVs on bureaus and bookcases tipping over, an anti-tip device being installed, wall anchoring being installed

ROHM Introduces The Industry's First Monolithic Supercap (EDLC) Cell Balancing IC
Promotes expansion of the supercapacitor energy regeneration market for automotive and industrial applications
KYOTO, Japan and SANTA CLARA, Calif., Jan. 29, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- ROHM Semiconductor has recently announced the development of a cell balancing IC that contributes to increased miniaturization, greater stability, and longer life for supercaps, or EDLCs (Electric Double Layer Capacitors), which are driving the adoption of energy regeneration applications in industrial equipment, automotive start-stop systems, and voltage sag (instantaneous voltage drop) countermeasures.
The BD14000EFV-C integrates over 20 discrete components required for supercap cell balancing on a single chip, reducing mounting area by 38% over conventional solutions while eliminating component variations, making it easy to configure compact, high reliability supercap systems.
In addition to cell balancing functionality for up to 6 cells, multiple ICs can be connected in series to enable simultaneous control of even more cells. The cell balancing voltage can be set between 2.4V and 3.1V, ensuring support for a variety of supercaps. Flag output is also built-in, along with an overcurrent detection voltage function with adjustable detection voltage setting based on the cell balancing voltage. In addition, AEC-Q100 qualification ensures worry-free use in automotive and other environments requiring high reliability.
1. All required supercap cell balancing functions integrated on a single chip reduces mounting area by 38%
Proprietary analog design technology cultivated over many years, combined with sample evaluations and specifications determined by Nippon Chemi-Con, have allowed ROHM to develop the industry's first IC that integrates supercap cell balancing functionality - which conventionally requires over 20 discrete components - on a single chip. This not only simplifies design, but reduces mounting area by 38%.
Detection is enabled for 4-6 cells, and the shunt resistor method is used to achieve simple cell balancing operation, making self-contained operation possible and reducing design load considerably. In addition, the cell balancing voltage can be adjusted (2.4V to 3.1V in 0.1V increments) to ensure compatibility with a wide range of supercap output voltages.
2. Supports higher voltage supercap applications by expanding the number of cells
The supercap market itself is trending towards higher voltages and capacitances, and the practice of connecting large-capacitance supercaps in series to generate higher voltages is increasing. In response, the BD14000EFV-C allows multiple ICs to be connected in series, making it possible to provide cell balancing functionality for high voltage supercap applications.
3. Two protection functions enable double-checking of cell conditions; automotive standard AEC-Q100 qualified
In addition to cell balancing operation, overcurrent detection and flag output functions are included that improve system reliability by detecting the degree of cell degradation. And AEC-Q100 certification ensures that the IC meets special environmental requirements (i.e. automotive noise).

Actiontec Launches the First Receiver for Intel® Pro Wireless Display -- Bringing Wireless Display to the Enterprise
ScreenBeam Pro Business Edition is built for businesses with wireless display, security, user privacy, manageability, and managed meeting capability.
SUNNYVALE, Calif., Jan. 29, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Actiontec Electronics today launched ScreenBeam Pro Business Edition, the first enterprise-grade wireless display receiver certified for Intel Pro Wireless Display (Intel® Pro WiDi), a key feature available with 5(th) Generation Intel® Core(TM) vPro(TM) Processors. The solution turns any conference room into a wire-free collaboration zone, enabling employees to share and display content from their laptops, smartphones, or tablets without having to figure out which adapter or cable is needed to connect their device.
"Actiontec has played a leadership role as we have worked to bring Intel Pro WiDi to market," said Tom Garrison, Vice President, General Manager, Business Client Platforms at Intel. "ScreenBeam Pro Business Edition sets the standard for our Intel Pro WiDi experience, allowing businesses to take full advantage of the wireless display capabilities built into the latest version of Intel Pro WiDi."
ScreenBeam Pro Business Edition is a small Intel® Pro WiDi compliant adapter that connects to a projector, TV, or other display and lets users wirelessly share content from a compatible laptop, smartphone, or tablet. When equipped with an optional dongle, ScreenBeam Pro Business Edition will be the first wireless display receiver to offer remote management through Actiontec's soon to be released Central Management System (CMS). Available only from Actiontec, CMS enables IT staff to remotely monitor receiver status, troubleshoot problems, apply security policies and update multiple receivers at once. This dramatically reduces the cost and complexity of deploying and managing wireless display technology in medium to large businesses.

In "moderated meeting" mode, presenters can hand off control when needed, enhancing collaboration and moving the meeting forward without interruption.
"The modern conference room is complex. Employees bring a range of devices, all with different outputs, that need to connect to the conference room display. It's hard to anticipate which adapters and cables are needed, much less keep those cables handy," said Dean Chang, CEO of Actiontec Electronics.
"Together with 5th Generation Intel Core vPro processors and Intel Pro WiDi, ScreenBeam Pro Business Edition frees the conference room from these cable struggles. It's the only wireless display solution that completely addresses all the unique performance, collaboration, security, and manageability needs of Corporate, Small/Medium Businesses, education, healthcare, and hospitality environments," Chang added.

Gogo Vision Now Installed on More than 1700 Commercial Aircraft
Gogo now the World Leader of Wireless In-flight Entertainment
ITASCA, Ill., Jan. 29, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Gogo Inc. (NASDAQ: GOGO), a leading global aero communications service provider, announced today that its wireless in-flight entertainment product - Gogo Vision - is now installed on more than 1,700 commercial aircraft across six major airlines and continues to roll out in the business aviation market. Today, more than half of the aircraft flying around the world with wireless in-flight entertainment are equipped with the Gogo Vision product.
Gogo Vision allows passengers to rent movies and television shows on their own Wi-Fi enabled laptops, tablets or smartphones. Gogo has currently licensed more than 200 movies and close to 200 television shows from most of the major Hollywood studios. Most content is in the DVD release window, but Gogo is the first provider of wireless in-flight entertainment with some content in the early release window.
"Gogo's wireless in-flight entertainment product has become a popular way for airlines to deliver content to passengers because it's lightweight, inexpensive and easier to maintain when compared to seat-back solutions," said Ash ElDifrawi, Gogo's Chief Commercial Officer. "We also now have the ability to install the Gogo vision product on aircraft with or without our connectivity product."
The Gogo Vision product leverages Gogo's onboard equipment to deliver the content. The content is pre-loaded and stored on a server on the plane and delivered through wireless access points. Gogo Vision can also be offered to an airline with or without Gogo's connectivity product. Gogo also has deployed a seat selection technology that allows an airline to serve up content based on where a passenger sits on a plane.
"We know that the vast majority of passengers are carrying their own Wi-Fi enabled device on a plane, this technology leverages that trend," added ElDifrawi. "As we continue to develop the capabilities of our seat selection technologies, we expect to eventually be able to distribute entertainment customized to the preferences of each passenger on the plane, which will essentially enable our airline partners to offer a customizable experience at the seat level."
Gogo is a leading global aero-communications service provider that offers in-flight Internet, entertainment, text messaging, voice and a host of other communications-related services to the commercial and business aviation markets. Gogo has more than 2,000 commercial aircraft equipped with its services on more than 10 major airlines. More than 6,000 business aircraft are also flying with its solutions, including the world's largest fractional ownership fleets. Gogo also is a factory option at every major business aircraft manufacturer.

Final Secures One Million in Funding and Spot in Y-Combinator for Consumer Credit Card Leveraging Dynamic Card Numbers
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Jan. 27, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Final, the only credit card that enables users to generate multiple card numbers, today announced it has raised $1 million in a recent seed round. Final is backed by the confidence of investors that include Ludlow Ventures, T5 Capital Partners, Y-Combinator and several financial technology-associated angel investors. Specific contributions have not been publicly disclosed.
"We have the support of some very successful and respected players in this space; people we look to for advice in navigating some of the necessary business pieces for getting the Final credit card to market," said Aaron Frank, CEO of Final. "We're entirely focused on building a product and company that can change the credit industry for the better. Tokenization and creating dynamic credit card numbers is powerful, but if we can differentiate ourselves through our culture of consumer advocacy, we'll survive even dramatic changes in payment technology."
Jonathon Triest, Founder and Managing Partner of Ludlow, sees significant value in both Final's team and concept, noting, "This is a space where things typically move slowly. These guys can execute, quickly, and I've seen that first hand. Not only does Final understand how to navigate the systems from a technology standpoint, they have shown an ability to navigate the business-side of the payments ecosystem. That, in some respects, is even more impressive."
Forward Progress and a Pilot Program
The company has announced it is currently finalizing issuing partnerships and plans to launch a limited pilot program in 2015.
Final firmly believes that building credit doesn't necessitate going into painful debt, and have designed a credit card to align with its users, their goals and how they buy. Users can limit their ability to spend based on varying personal budgets, and easily see how their credit is affected by their spending habits.
Working everywhere purchases are made; online, and offline, Final implements with digital wallets like Google Wallet and Apple Pay with zero updates to the payment infrastructure.
Chief Technology Officer of Final, Matthew Rothstein, weighed in on their progress saying, "We've seen significant traction with our beginning marketing efforts. With over 35,000 pre-launch signups, it's become clear that people want a better credit card solution. As we continue to test our product and gather consumer input, we'll learn exponentially more around long-term adoption, the more powerful control features and how to prioritize those. We're of the impression that slow-to-innovate industries can benefit greatly from an outside perspective - and that's exactly what we bring."
Final is issuing a credit card designed to give consumers total control over their merchant relationships, transparency in their spending, and peace of mind across all payment experiences. Rather than a single, static 16-digit card number, Final generates multiple card numbers the consumer can restrict, and manages them automatically. Final launched in 2014 and is headquartered in Mountain View, California. To learn more, reach out directly or visit http://www.getfinal.com.

Introducing a slim, lightweight design, six times the memory and a bold new line-up of colors
DALLAS, Jan. 27, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Texas Instruments (TI) (NASDAQ: TXN), the most trusted brand in graphing calculator technology, today unveiled a new addition to the TI-84 Plus family of graphing calculators--the TI-84 Plus CE graphing calculator. The TI-84 Plus CE is now 30 percent thinner and 30 percent lighter than the TI-84 Plus, and students can express their own personal style by choosing their TI-84 Plus CE from a variety of colors, such as red, hot pink and blue.
TI created the TI-84 Plus CE in response to feedback from students using earlier models of the TI-84 Plus. "Students asked us to make their go-to graphing calculator slimmer, sleeker, more colorful, and lightweight, and we answered with the modern, streamlined design of the TI-84 Plus CE," said Peter Balyta, Ph.D., president of TI Education Technology. "Once you hold the new TI-84 Plus CE in your hand, you will immediately see and feel the improvements."
The TI-84 Plus CE has six times the memory of the TI-84 Plus so students can store vivid, full-color graphs, images and data. The lightweight yet durable design also makes the graphing calculator easier to carry to and from school and activities for today's on-the-go students.
Teachers will appreciate that the key placement, navigation and menus are the same as earlier TI-84 Plus models so they can continue to use their current classroom activities. Parents will appreciate that a one-time purchase of a TI-84 Plus CE in middle school will take students through all of the math courses they need to take in high school, college and beyond- including algebra, geometry, calculus and statistics.
The TI-84 Plus CE graphing calculator is permitted on high-stakes exams, including the PSAT/NMSQT*, SAT* and ACT® college entrance exam as well as Advanced Placement* exams that allow or require a graphing calculator. The TI-84 Plus CE will be available for purchase later this spring. For information on availability, visit our website.

Multiple Technologies Falling Into Place to Enable Faster Server Networking Upgrades, According to Crehan Research
Compelling High-Speed Ethernet Options for all Diverse Segments of the Market.
SAN FRANCISCO, Jan. 27, 2015 /PRNewswire/ --In its most recent Server-Class Adapter & LAN-on-Motherboard (LOM) Long-Range Forecast Report, Crehan Research Inc. projects that the availability of multiple new data-center Ethernet speeds will lead to a much stronger server networking upgrade cycle than seen over the past decade. The firm expects that the impending arrival of 25 gigabit Ethernet (GbE), 50GbE and 100GbE products, in combination with existing 10GbE and 40GbE products, will result in more than two-thirds of total networking ports migrating to high-speed Ethernet within three years (see accompanying figure).
"Over the past decade or so, the data center has seen many significant changes, and it is no longer a one-size-fits-all market," said Seamus Crehan, president of Crehan Research. "Consequently, we are seeing solutions that are highly optimized for the needs of specific customer segments, whether it be a fully vertically integrated system for a converged enterprise network or a bare-bones disaggregated system for a massively scalable cloud service provider," he said. "As a result, the market is currently looking for more targeted Ethernet networking solutions."
The report predicts that the many various high-speed Ethernet options will coexist for some time, each benefitting from the demands of a specific market segment. For example:
-- 25GbE is expected to see a strong initial ramp from deployments by cloud
titans such as Google and Microsoft, an area of the market where 10GbE
server networking is currently prevalent.
-- 10GbE should see its third, and biggest, adoption phase as the
mainstream enterprise market upgrades its mostly 1GBASE-T server and
server access infrastructure to 10GBASE-T.
-- 40GbE is starting to ramp significantly, benefitting from a current
window of opportunity as the most attractively priced data center
Ethernet speed from a bandwidth perspective.
In both its 3Q14 Server-Class Adapter & LAN-on-Motherboard (LOM) Long-Range Forecast and its 3Q14 Data Center Switch reports, Crehan Research highlighted the dramatic uptake in 40GbE data center adoption, noting that networking bandwidth demands were so strong in some market verticals that these customers could not wait to evaluate impending 25GbE and 50GbE options.
