eWBM, Depth Map SoC DR1151 Launching
SEOUL, South Korea, Feb. 5, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- On January 5, eWBM, Ltd., a fabless SoC company, announced that their very first product 'DR1151' has been successfully launched. DR1151 is the world's first system semiconductor that calculates the relative distance to the object only with a single-lens camera.
The existing market has been using the two sensors and IR Emitter to calculate the relative distance between the object and the sensor heretofore. But DR1151 uses Dual Aperture's 4-color 3D image solution technology which extracts RGB and IR signals by single image sensor. They are expecting that this innovative technology can contribute to significant cost reduction and miniaturization of applications.
In addition, eWBM has ensured the high performance of more than 30 FPS and at the same time minimized the power consumption by applying the self-developed hardware blocks to DR1151 in order to process the numerous calculations required for extracting the relative distance. DR1151 is hereby expected to be used widely in mobile and portable applications in near future.
"As DR1151 has attracted a lot of interest from related companies before it was released, it will be available to customers at home and abroad from the end of Feburary, when the test is completed. We also expect that a full-fledged sales of DR1151 will be carried out from the second half of this year when the applications has been developed," Wookon Koh, the head of marketing for eWBM, said.
DR1151 can be applied to various fields such as 3D gesture recognition, gaming, distance-sensitive CCTV, automative collision avoidance systems, contactless fingerprint, single-lends laparoscope and etc. It also can be used to improve functionality of the smart phone camera-high-precision autofocusing macro, focus changes after imaging, 3D background removal and etc. eWBM has currently been committed to developing the 3D gesture recognition Smart TV and set-top boxes accessories with two foreign companies, also has been cooperating with large camera module manufactures at home and abroad to develop the module for smartphones since last year. In addition, eWBM jointly with Dual Aperture have established partnerships with three domestic and foreign companies, and they will continue to expand the types of applicable 4-color sensor.

SAN DIEGO, Feb. 5, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Peregrine Semiconductor Corp., founder of RF SOI (silicon on insulator) and pioneer of advanced RF solutions, introduces the UltraCMOS® PE42524, the industry's first RF SOI switch to operate up to 40 GHz. This switch significantly extends Peregrine's high-frequency portfolio into frequencies previously dominated by gallium arsenide (GaAs) technology. As an alternative to GaAs-based solutions, the PE42524 features high reliability and performance advantages in linearity, isolation, settling time and ESD protection. These attributes make the switch ideal for test-and-measurement, microwave-backhaul, radar and military communications devices.

This sapphire substrate offers several key benefits significant to high-frequency design. Sapphire has a loss tangent that is 10 times better than bulk CMOS and three times better than GaAs. As an ultra high-resistivity substrate, sapphire provides high isolation and minimizes parasitic capacitances. The sapphire substrate eliminates many substrate-coupling effects, common in silicon-based substrates, offering RF system engineers exceptional levels of linearity and power handling performance.

Peregrine's PE42524 is a single-pole double-throw (SPDT) RF switch die that supports a wide frequency range from 10 MHz to 40 GHz. It delivers exceptionally high port-to-port isolation, low insertion loss and excellent linearity. The switch exhibits 47 dB isolation and 2.2 dB insertion loss at 30 GHz, as well as 50 dBm IIP3 at 13.5 GHz. The PE42524 has a fast switching time of 225 nanoseconds, a fast settling time of 840 nanoseconds and a high ESD rating of 2000V HBM on all pins. Unlike GaAs solutions, no blocking capacitors are required if DC voltage is not present on the RF ports. The PE42524 is available as a flip-chip die with 500 microns bump pitch, which eliminates high-frequency performance variations due to bond wire length variances.

In the first step of its NFV strategy, OneAccess is today announcing the availability
of a vCPE Adapter or virtual adapter that enables the full functions of a traditional
branch-office CPE to be placed directly in the service chain of an NFV infrastructure. The
vCPE Adapter enables all or part of the targeted enterprise network services to be set up
using either Netconf, existing legacy protocols or a combination of both.
This means operators can now start their trials and initial NFV service rollouts
unconstrained by the need to migrate their legacy services or 'forklift upgrade' their
existing CPE. Once installed, the vCPE adapter enables all legacy services to be
integrated into the service chain and to be provisioned via the adapter or natively with
Netconf.

Seoul National University (SNU) adopted OLED lighting for the library's reading lights because it is energy efficient and is extremely comfortable to the eyes. HSINCHU, Feb. 4, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- As part of its global MediaTek Labs initiative, MediaTek today announced the MediaTek LinkIt Connect 7681 development platform. Based on MediaTek's MT7681 Wi-Fi System on Chip (SoC), the new platform provides developers and makers with the tools they need to create simple Wi-Fi enabled IoT devices that can be controlled from smartphones or the internet.
"The world is rapidly moving towards connecting every imaginable device in the home, yet developers often have to spend too much effort on making their products Wi-Fi enabled," said Marc Naddell, VP, MediaTek Labs. "The MediaTek LinkIt Connect 7681 platform simplifies and accelerates this process so that developers can focus on making innovative home IoT products, whatever their skill level."
To enable developers to take advantage of the features of the MT7681 SoC, the new platform provides a Software Development Kit (SDK) for Microsoft Windows and Ubuntu Linux, a Hardware Development Kit (HDK) co-designed with Seeed Studio and related documentation. The SDK enables developers to compile and upload the firmware needed to control an IoT device in response to instructions received wirelessly, while the HDK delivers the LinkIt Connect 7681 development board. The board includes the LinkIt Connect 7681 module, micro-USB port and pins for each of the I/O interfaces of the MT7681 chipset. The LinkIt Connect 7681 module (co-designed with AcSiP) is available to order separately and is designed to easily mount on a PCB as part of production versions of the IoT device.
Connectivity on the MT7681 is achieved using Wi-Fi, in either Wi-Fi station or access point (AP) mode. In Wi-Fi station mode, MT7681 connects to a wireless AP and can then communicate with web services or cloud servers, for uses such as controlling the heating in a home from a home automation website. In AP mode, the MT7681 chip lets other wireless devices connect directly to it, allowing, for example, a smartphone app to control a smart plug or light bulb in the home.
MediaTek Labs was launched in September 2014 and continues to provide developers, makers and service providers with SDKs, HDKs and documentation, as well as technical and business support.
