New Sharetivity Plug-In Eliminates Old Bookmarking Method

A new browser plug-in kicked off by Palo Alto-based Sharetivity allows individual users to customize, save, share and discuss content all in one location: their browser.

PALM DESERT, Calif., March 23 -- If you've ever experienced the hassle of multiple tabs, bookmarking endlessly, and copy and pasting into e-mails in order to keep track of your Internet finds, content-sharing on the Web has a new place to call home: Sharetivity.

Sharetivity kicks off an entirely user-oriented content sharing application, meeting individual needs overlooked by sharing giants ShareThis and AddThis. Leading sharing widgets and browser software only allow for one-time sharing of an entire page, but Sharetivity's new plug-in follows users from site to site with customized content-selection tools, sharing options for a plethora of social media sites and automatic saving of each selection. The plug-in eliminates the hassle of multiple windows and tabs, saving content externally, and losing track of where content has been shared. Sharetivity shares, saves and streams all desired content, logging all activity within the user's home browser.

The browser plug-in allows individuals full functionality from any page on the Web, even low-volume sites which have not installed sharing buttons for such outlets as e-mail, Facebook, Twitter and Google Buzz. Sharetivity's plug-in is geared toward students, collaborative researchers, bloggers, freelance writers, travel planners and other Web surfers who often use a disjointed combination of one-time sharing buttons and copy-and-paste methods. The plug-in also provides both a private discussion area and a public content-streaming feature to share, save, stream and discuss in a single location. The aggregated content is useful for bibliographies, research logs and travel itineraries, among other reasons why people browse and collaborate on the Web.

"One of the most important things we are doing is bringing the "Email a friend" feature, which has been around for more than a decade, into the realm of social media," said Ankesh Kumar, CEO of Sharetivity. "The ability to save what you e-mail, see what your friends are e-mailing, and view all past social networking shares with no additional effort is key in getting mainstream adoption of social media."

Unique to Sharetivity, this browser plug-in takes sharing one step further, saving time and steps associated with re-sharing and keeping track of content. Among the 58 social networks connected to Sharetivity, users can select and group their favorite outlets for instant, simultaneous sharing.

Recently launched at DEMO, a bi-annual international conference for emerging technology products, the Sharetivity plug-in garnered attention for its problem-solving capabilities.

"When considering companies for DEMO, we look for meaningful new technologies, including products designed to personalize Web content in radically new ways," said Matt Marshall, Executive Producer of DEMO. "Sharetivity has combined innovation with functionality to greatly improve the browsing experience."
