Marvell's Dynamic Multi-Hop Relay Technology Enables Extended Wi-Fi Range for the Connected Home Ecosystem

Marvell demonstrates Wi-Fi range extension for Multimedia and IoT Applications in collaboration with Libre Wireless' LS9 module and synchronization technology

SANTA CLARA, Calif. and TAIPEI, Taiwan, June 1, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Marvell (NASDAQ:MRVL), a world leader in storage, cloud infrastructure, Internet of Things (IoT), connectivity and multimedia semiconductor solutions, today announced that its advanced Avastar® wireless connectivity combos can now enable Dynamic Multi-Hop Relay (DMHR) Technology. DMHR, when integrated with Marvell's advanced Avastar wireless connectivity devices 88W8887, 88W8997 and 88W8977, is designed to enable Wi-Fi® devices to support a robust extended wireless coverage by intelligently linking and sharing data or audio/video in a daisy chain topology.

DMHR technology is expected to enhance the user experience in various indoor and outdoor environments where robust wireless connection helps ensure uninterrupted multimedia and cloud services, whether in infrastructure or peer-to-peer configurations. This capability combines a core Wi-Fi technology developed by Marvell and application stack, system-level intelligence and synchronization developed by Libre Wireless. Both Marvell and Libre Wireless will be demonstrating an Audio Relay network at Marvell's Computex booth.

"We are very proud of our leadership in the wireless space and continue to invest in building cutting-edge features powering tier one OEM's products," said Kevin Tang, AVP of Marketing, Wireless Connectivity Business Unit at Marvell Semiconductor, Inc. "Our engineering team quickly delivered best-in-class features like hardware time-stamping for audio synchronization and relay networks in its collaborative partnership with Libre."

"Libre Wireless Technologies continues to lead the market with innovation and provide complete solutions for audio streaming and IoT embedded applications," said Hooman Kashef, CEO of Libre Wireless Technologies. "This collaboration with Marvell extends our efforts in the wireless audio, connected home, and smart building market and truly elevates the standard of the user's experience. We look forward to working closely with Marvell to continue delivering best-in-class smart connected solutions."

The key features of the technology include:

--  Relay network of up to 15 devices, all connected with each other in a
        daisy-chain fashion
--  Extends the range of traditional Wi-Fi network by 15x, from 40m to
almost 600m in a typical home
--  Each node can further connect up to 15 more devices, forming a cluster
network of over 200 wirelessly connected devices - ideal for indoor as
        well as outdoor use
--  The Dynamic Relay is a fully self-managed and self-recovering network,
with the capability to monitor all devices joining and leaving the
network, as well as identifying any dead-nodes
    --  Key Use Cases: Multi-room Audio/Video distribution, Walkie-talkie, Group
sports, Access Point repeater, Wide area security and surveillance
        systems
--  Targeted for Speakers, Soundbars, Headphones, IP Cameras, Mobile, and
        Portable Devices
Libre Wireless will implement this capability into its LibreSync platform to bring unique, real world value to consumer electronic products. With this feature, LibreSync can enable electronic products to link together intelligently so that devices in remote locations, at the home or commercial/Industrial buildings behave robustly and consistently. With this capability, Marvell believes new use cases can exist where actual Wi-Fi products extend the network far outside the home and even enable new commercial applications for extending data transmissions or audio over very long distances.

Marvell's award-winning and advanced Avastar product family will be demonstrated at Computex 2016 in Taipei, Taiwan from May 31 - June 3.
