Smartmedical Launches Web Empath API, Identifying Emotion from Speech in Real-time.
The API provides developers with simple access to its vocal emotion recognition technology.

Empath was first developed to assist with the delivery of mental healthcare services. In 2013, it was used in NTT DoCoMo's Tohoku reconstruction project to evaluate care workers' mental health conditions. "Some care workers assisting Tohoku earthquake victims suffered from negative mood, so we used Empath as an instrument to evaluate their mental states. If their negative moods persisted, we encouraged them to pursue counselling with doctors. This project was highly praised by Japanese media."
In addition to mental healthcare, Empath is utilized in various fields: robotics (with Yukai Engineering), lighting systems (with PHILIPS), virtual reality (with Intelligence, Ltd.), contact center service (with TMJ), and employee assistance programs (with NTT DoCoMo).
