Vision Research Updates v-Series of 1 Megapixel Ultrahigh-Speed Digital Cameras

Phantom® v2512, v2012, v1612, v1212 Offer Customers The Most Memory Available on the Market

WAYNE, N.J., Sept. 1, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Vision Research, the leading manufacturer of digital high-speed imaging systems, has enhanced its powerful UHS-Series line of 1 megapixel (1Mpx) ultrahigh-speed cameras with features that greatly improve workflow and ease-of-use.  The new Phantom v2512, v2012, v1612, and v1212 cameras are now available with either 72GB, 144GB, or 288GB of memory, providing significantly longer recording times and more data recording flexibility than previous versions of the cameras.

These cameras also take advantage of Vision Research's 1TB and 2TB CineMag IV to quickly record data to a large amount of non-volatile storage. Coupled with 10GB Ethernet that comes standard with all Phantom ultrahigh-speed cameras, the UHS-12 Series offer a smooth, efficient workflow to managing critical data.

"The faster the camera, the more data it provides, and the more important memory and data management become to the work flow. These ultrahigh-speed cameras provide large amounts of critical data, and a challenge has always been storing and downloading it for analysis," commented Doreen Clark, Product Marketing Manager for Vision Research.

"We focused on alleviating this challenge for our customers, and we're now able to offer more than triple the amount of memory as well as additional data management features. For example, a v2512 Ultrahigh-Speed camera with 288GB of memory recording at full 25 Gigapixels per second can record an event for up to 7.5 seconds, three times longer than the v2511 with 96GB of memory. However, downloading and accessing 288GB of data can be cumbersome, which is where the 1 terabyte and 2 terabyte CineMags of non-volatile storage and 10 gigabyte Ethernet are extremely useful."

The 1TB and 2TB CineMag IV allow users to save from RAM to non-volatile storage as quickly as 1GB/sec, meaning 288GB can be saved in less than 5 minutes, increasing a camera's utilization during critical shoot times. The cameras also can save data directly into the CineMag, saving even more valuable recording time.  The CineMag can be downloaded later either through the camera or through Vision Research's CineStation.  All Phantom ultrahigh-speed cameras are equipped with 10G Ethernet, and are able to transfer data at up to 500 MB/second on optimized systems; also avoiding time consuming downloads between shots.

All memory options can be divided in up to 63 segments or individual shots, a feature that provides significant flexibility while increasing camera utilization.  Users can re-arm the camera and even record a segment while saving the previous segment, a useful feature in applications with multiple, predictable events. The 288GB memory option, for example, can be divided into up to 63 segments of over 4.5GB each, allowing users to capture all of the details of phenomena and seamlessly download them for analysis later.

In addition to increased memory and CineMag IV compatibility, the UHS-12 Series has the same performance and features of the UHS-11 Series, including the same high sensitivity of ISO 6400 (daylight illumination) for color images and ISO 32,000 for monochrome images. This ISO rating lessens the challenges created by low-light scenarios and provides the option to use a faster shutter speed, which can reduce motion blur and result in clearer images. Users also may find that they can now use lenses with smaller apertures, which typically are less expensive and easier to acquire.

The updated UHS-12 Series begins shipping in September. Vision Research also operates a number of AMEcare performance sites around the world for truly global service, training and support. For more information please visit: http://www.visionresearch.com/Service--Support/.
