Magellan Introduces Multi-Function Smartphone Box for Automotive OEMs
Connects Smartphones to Head Units and Infotainment Platforms; Adds Computing Power While Providing Navigation and Cloud Content
SANTA CLARA, Calif., June 2, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Magellan will be announcing and demonstrating the newest addition to its line of connected car solutions, Smartphone Box, at the upcoming TU-Automotive Detroit trade show (booth # M168) June 3-4. Connecting with either an iOS or Android smartphone, the Smartphone Box brings computing power and memory storage to low-power head units. Smartphone Box also allows smartphone Bluetooth connectivity for "brought-in" content and apps.

The Magellan Smartphone Box provides multi-functionality through the head unit. It offers standard navigational information such as turn-by-turn guidance, traffic information, and the latest points of interest (POI). It may be used to play music off a SD card or USB connection, and it supports various connection platforms, such as MySpin(TM), WebLink(TM), and MirrorLink(TM), between a smartphone and a vehicle's infotainment system.

The device may be hidden by installing it in the glove box and is easily detached to prevent theft.
