Blackboard Refreshes Moodlerooms Interface to Improve User Experience

Newest Innovations Mark the Latest Investment in the Open Source Community

WASHINGTON, Jan. 28, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Blackboard Inc. announced today several updates to Moodlerooms, the company's services offering for the open source learning management system (LMS) Moodle, that improve both the functionality as well as the overall user experience through a newly designed interface. Today's news marks the company's latest investment in supporting the open source community and improving how learners and instructors engage with their solutions and services.

The refreshed user experience and navigation is much simpler and intuitive and allows for learners to easily search for and consume content on their desktops and mobile devices. The forum feature has also been enhanced to allow for discussions to be easily sorted and searched. This saves learners time in viewing and responding to posts and helps instructors find the posts most relevant to their courses. The accessibility of the forum has also been improved with better access to screen readers and other tools for vision-impaired users.

"We are extremely excited about the latest improvements we have made to Moodlerooms and the improved experience it will give learners and instructors in the Moodle community," said Mark Strassman, senior vice president of product management for Blackboard. "Advances like these help us work toward our mission of improving the educational experience and helping institutions be successful in meeting their teaching and learning goals. Blackboard continues to be the only company that can truly blend the right technologies, resources and services to meet the unique goals of all of our customers, regardless of their LMS."

Blackboard has been very active in the open source community since it acquired Moodlerooms and Australia-based NetSpot in 2012 through code contribution, substantive community engagement, and more. This includes the launch of the NetSpot Customer Advisory Group, which was established in an effort to increase collaboration with learners and instructors through a forum where they can offer feedback, advice and recommendations on services and products.
