MegaBits, the first location-based monster training MMO, has officially launched in the App Store
MegaBits, a Pittsburgh-based game development company, announces the launch of their game, MegaBits, an iPhone (iOS 7 and above) app that is available now in the App Store
PITTSBURGH, Jan. 6, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Like millions of people around the globe, the developers at MegaBits have always wanted to be bonafide monster trainers--popularized by games like Digimon, Tamagotchi, and Pokemon. They set out to build a game that addressed a consumer craving for a mobile monster training MMO. A revolutionary integration of Apple Maps enables location-based gameplay, showing players as they move about the real world. MegaBits' goal is to create an ecosystem of games and products that knit together in-game content with facets of the real world, to increase interaction between players, and to define the future of gameplay.
How it Works
When you move in real life, you move in MegaBits! Your game world is created by a combination of actual map and weather data--skinned with a retro-style 8-bit world overlay. The objective is to capture and battle monsters (MegaBits) anywhere you go--on your work commute, a walk in the park, or an adventure to a new part of town! You can also battle friends, trade monsters and items, and battle other nearby MegaBits trainers.
Depending on your physical surroundings, you will face monsters that are exclusive to your specific region and weather conditions. This gives you the opportunity to capture and train unique monsters in different situations. MegaBits is now available in the US App Store (future releases will include additional countries).
MegaBits, http://www.megabitsapp.com, was conceived at Pittsburgh's 2nd Startup Weekend--one of nine companies selected by AlphaLab (a Pittsburgh-based tech accelerator) as part of its 11th cycle. MegaBits LLC is now a full-time game company located in Pittsburgh, PA.
The six-person Megabits team is led by Patrick Perini, CEO. Patrick has been with MegaBits from its inception at Startup Weekend. According to Perini, MegaBits' goal is to create an ecosystem of games and products that knit together in-game content with facets of the real world: "Our vision is to blur the line between them, increase interaction between players, and define the future of entertainment and play."
