Kidde RemoteLync to Provide 24/7 Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alerts to Homeowners While They're Away

Home-monitoring device works with existing alarms -- no extra fees or products needed

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 6, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- A home fire starts every 70 seconds in the U.S. To offer consumers peace of mind while away from home, Kidde Fire Safety, a global leader in residential fire safety products, on Tuesday introduced RemoteLync at the 2015 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. Ideal for a primary residence, vacation home or rental property, the device plugs into a single outlet, listens for a smoke or carbon monoxide alarm, and uses the home's Wi-Fi to remotely alert the homeowner on iOS and Android compatible phones and tablets. Kidde is a part of UTC Building & Industrial Systems, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX).

Pew Research Center survey data shows more than half of all adults in the U.S. own a smartphone, and of those, 74 percent have used their mobile device to get help in an emergency. The RemoteLync monitoring solution works with a home's existing alarms and does not require additional products or monthly fees. It uses patented technology to distinguish smoke and carbon monoxide alarms from background noise to reduce the chance of a nuisance alarm. When an alarm triggers the device, RemoteLync communicates via a free app that can be customized to notify an entire network, including neighbors and family, or even call 911 directly.

"Kidde is a leader in using innovation to address real issues regarding fire safety. We believe homeowners want a simpler way to stay engaged with their home when they are away. With a lifespan of 10 years and cost under $100, RemoteLync enables homeowners to know about an emergency for just pennies a day," said Chris Rovenstine, vice president of sales and marketing, Kidde.
