RS Components Raises the Bar with New Blackfin(R) DSPs from Analog Devices

BEIJING, Dec. 17, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- RS Components <http://china.rs-online.com/> (RS), the trading brand of Electrocomponents plc <http://www.electrocomponents.com/> (LSE: ECM), the global distributor for engineers, is stocking the first DSPs in Analog Devices' new power-efficient high-performance ADSP-BF70x Blackfin® family.

The ADSP-BF70x Blackfin <http://china.rs-online.com/web/c/semiconductors/processors-microcontrollers/digital-signal-processors/> family is based on Analog's new Blackfin+ core, which supports 16-bit and 32-bit fixed-point processing and offers many efficiency improvements. With 800 MMACS of processing power at less than 100mW, this advanced core delivers double the performance or half the power of competing devices.

The flagship device in the new family, the ADSP-BF707, has 1MB of on-chip SRAM and 512KByte of L2 ROM, eliminating external memory in many applications. A 16-bit L3 interface to external DDR2 or LPDDR SDRAM devices is also provided. Extensive peripheral integration includes a 4-channel 12-bit 1MSPS ADC, a USB2.0 OTG controller, two CAN2.0B interfaces, ePPI Video interface, and /I2S audio support. There are also powerful security features, including crypto hardware accelerators for fast secure boot and IP protection, and memDMA encryption/decryption for run-time security.

The ADSP-BF70x family is ideal for power-constrained portable applications, especially where deterministic, real-time response is required. These include imaging applications such as barcode scanners and CMOS cameras, biometric sensors, patient monitors, intelligent lighting, in-car audio, voice recorders, and professional musical equipment such as effects pedals.

Also in stock at RS for immediate delivery, the ADSP-BF707 EZ-KIT Lite evaluation hardware gives customers a head start using the new devices. The kit contains the ADSP-BF707 EZ-Board™, ADZS-ICE-1000 emulator, and a CE-approved power supply, and is designed for use with the CrossCore® Embedded Studio (CCES) software development tools and ADSP-BF707 Board Support Package. The ADSP-BF707 EZ-Board is also available separately.
