The Future of Bedtime: World's First Interactive Pajamas

Pacha's Pajamas takes kids on a transformational journey of discovery

OAKLAND, Calif., Nov. 13, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- In a world of rapidly changing values, how do parents know what is best for their children? How do parents and kids truly connect in a technology and entertainment-driven culture? The ultimate solution to this changing children's entertainment landscape is called Pacha's Pajamas, the world's first interactive dreamwear line which includes an award-winning story and an Augmented Reality App. The project is currently up for funding via Kickstarter at https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/meliaspapa/pachamas-the-worlds-first-interactive-pajamas.

Featuring the celebrity talent of Mos Def, Cheech Marin, and 30 youth artists, Pacha's Pajamas is the story of Pacha, a nine-year old Latin-American girl who struggles to bring her amazing dreams to life. Using the phone/tablet's camera, the augmented reality app tracks the characters on the pajamas and images in the book, and then displays the corresponding animations, educational videos, and interactive graphics. Each interaction with the pajamas and book creates a new path for exploration of Pacha's world for the child.

When the app "sees" the Pacha's Pajamas logo, it displays Pacha's latest webisode - the world's first serial content delivered through augmented reality! The story and app promote self-discovery, self-esteem, and empathy in the context of an exciting story-world for learning about nature and the environment. The pajamas - entitled PACHAMAS - are made of 100% organic cotton and are available in infant, child and adult sizes ranging from $30-$50. In addition to the pajamas and app, parent company BALANCE is also offering an original card game featuring 48 youth leaders worldwide, in partnership with UNESCO project Youth Leader.

Pacha's Pajamas is an already award-winning children's story, winning top awards such as:

    --  Parent's Choice Recommended Award
--  Academic's Choice Smart Media Award
--  Creative Child Magazine's 2013 Preferred Choice Award
--  First Place for Songwriting in the 2014 Eco Arts Award
--  People's Choice in the 12th Annual Independent Music Awards
"Pacha's Pajamas, with its wonderful message of hopes and dreams, captures the emotions of parents and kids alike," says the Academic's Choice Awards.

"I love Pacha's Pajamas because of the empowering message it gives children about their future and the environment," says Dr. Nooshin Razani, Pediatrician at Children's Hospital in Oakland. "This engaging story of a sweet but strong heroine coming together in song with the animal kingdom is of great value in helping kids feel able to affect their world. The story speaks to their need for an environmental hero, and my children quickly saw themselves in Pacha. As a pediatrician, I understand the accumulating scientific evidence that kids must get outdoors and into nature for their health. How to get them there is always the dilemma. Artists and entertainers are invaluable partners in the healer's quest to engage kids in the natural world."

Within the children's entertainment sector, there is a lack of positive Latin American and African American female characters. The top cartoon characters for children are white males, creating a need for powerful female protagonists. With the industry topping out at over $98 billion per year, the need is monumental.

Created by Aaron Ableman and Dave Room, an entertainment industry genius and the latter a Stanford engineer, Pacha's Pajamas came to fruition after realizing that children's entertainment was in need of more culturally-appropriate and empowering heroes for today's kids.

"Our Interactive Pajamas provide a bridge between the digital and real world that utterly captivates today's kids, while increasing their affinity for nature and inspiring them to start projects in their community," says Dave Room, CEO of BALANCE Edutainment.

"Pacha's Pajamas inspires kids to create the world they want to live in. The future belongs to those who believe in themselves and their dreams!" shared Aaron Ableman, BALANCE Edutainment's Chief Creative Director.

Since the rise in technology, children are spending more time staring at a screen than ever before. A few statistics:

--  Children subconsciously switch between platforms twenty-seven times per
        hour.
--  Children experience less emotional highs and lows based on their ability
to easily correct moods (going online when bored, changing television
        channels, etc.)
--  65% of children move their devices from room to room, compared to 41% of
people not raised with the technology.
--  54% of adolescents admit they would rather text than physically talk to
        someone.
