New ITAS version for magnetic and adhesive installation adds even more versatility to Hirschmann's plug-and-play Iridium smart antenna.
AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Sept. 9, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- As part of its ongoing efforts to pioneer innovations in satellite communication technology, Hirschmann Solutions, a leading supplier of antenna and transceiver systems for M2M (machine to machine) and automotive communications, introduces its newest addition in solutions for fleet and asset management, the magnetic and adhesive mount Iridium Transceiver Antenna System (ITAS-m/a).
Adding versatility to the ITAS, the first available and highest-performing Iridium smart-antenna in the market, Hirschmann is now releasing the magnetic and adhesive mount version. Engineered for tracking and telemetry systems, the ITAS solution has the ability to communicate outside of traditional cellular networks (or terrestrial communication networks) by utilizing Iridium's 66 Low Earth Orbiting satellites to provide impeccable service around the globe. The new magnetic and adhesive mount plug-and-play unit provides customers an accelerated time-to-market for their satellite communication needs making the ITAS even more versatile and easier to integrate than before.

In a single housing, the ITAS contains a high-performance antenna, Iridium 9602 SBD modem, power regulation and serial communication interface in order to effortlessly integrate global Short Burst Data (SBD) communication for the best possible service.
In addition to non-fused protection against electrical transients (ESD, load dump, etc. per SAE J1113/11/12/13), the ITAS family of products features fused over-current protection allowing for use with unregulated power supplies of 8-32VDC. ITAS' automotive grade M12-8 pin connector assembly terminates and grounds the cable-shield making the ITAS perfectly suited for use in electrically noisy environments. These are distinct advantages for problem-free use in the widest variety of applications. The system also offers various options of available extension cables with waterproof connectors.
ITAS provides reliable data transmission for all asset management and safety-related applications, including tracking and telemetry for the heavy machinery market, on- and off-highway vehicles traveling to remote locations or assets that require close monitoring outside of the cellular infrastructure. It also allows existing systems to expand by simply connecting additional communication services through a defined interface, providing the ultimate design flexibility for pre-existing telematic solutions.
