Barr Group Announces Course on "Firmware Defect Prevention for Safety-Critical Devices"

One-day course highlights coding standards, code inspections, and static analysis

GAITHERSBURG, Md., July 30, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Barr Group today announced an updated training calendar for 2014, adding the new "Firmware Defect Prevention for Safety-Critical Devices" course. This new course will join Barr Group's popular "Boot Camp" courses and will be offered in Michigan on September 23. This new course is ideal for those embedded software engineering teams looking to more proactively implement techniques to eliminate firmware defects early in the device development process.

Early elimination of firmware defects in safety-critical device development is critical to reduce the chance of improper device operation. For devices in the automotive, medical, aviation, and energy production industries, such defects - if not trapped and removed - can result in catastrophic consequences for the users and manufacturers of these devices. The "Firmware Defect Prevention for Safety-Critical Devices" course focuses on developing reasonable strategies to reduce firmware defects by implementing and enforcing coding standards, conducting meaningful code inspections, and using static analysis properly.

"Many development teams rely too heavily on important, but costly, downstream approaches such as testing, validation, and end user feedback to discover and remove firmware defects," said Michael Barr, CTO of Barr Group. "The proactive activities and strategies taught in our Firmware Defect Prevention for Safety-Critical Devices course are designed to trap firmware defects sooner, which is much more cost-effective and less time-consuming."

Barr Group's "Firmware Defect Prevention for Safety-Critical Devices" course is available for early registration at $495. Registration information is available at http://www.barrgroup.com/Training-Calendar.
