Casio Showcases Power-Saving Timepieces For Earth Awareness Month

Powered by Light, PRO TREK Series of Timepieces Run on Tough Solar Technology

DOVER, N.J., April 22, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Observed in April, Earth Awareness Month is a time to demonstrate support for environmental protection. For many, that means implementing daily activities to reduce their environmental impact such as recycling, using solar power, conserving water, buying eco-friendly products, and more. One of the simplest things consumers can do to save energy is to unplug electronics or use electronics with energy saving functions. Casio America Inc.'s PRO TREK series of timepieces makes it easy with Tough Solar Power technology.

"Being conscious of our environmental impact is a long-term commitment at Casio and that is why we designed our PRO TREK series of timepieces with both solar power and energy saving functions," said David Johnson, vice president of Casio's Timepiece Division. "The PRO TREK series is geared for those who live an active lifestyle, yet still care deeply about their impact on the environment because it allows adventurers to take it on any excursion without worrying about plugging in or bringing extra batteries to hold a charge."

Designed with Tough Solar Power technology, the PRO TREK's battery is automatically charged by light, either direct from the sun or from light sources inside - and it keeps that charge for the life of the watch. Watches with this feature have a solar cell and a special rechargeable battery (secondary battery) that is charged by the electrical power produced by the solar cell. After a full charge, timekeeping remains enabled for up to five months. If stored for long periods in an area where there is no light to charge the battery, the power saving function will enter a sleep mode to conserve both power and energy.

Additional features of Casio's PRO TREK series include Multi-Band 6 Atomic Timekeeping and Triple Sensor Version 3 Technology. Multi-Band 6 Atomic Timekeeping technology alleviates concerns about changing the time for daylight saving time or leap years because it automatically synchronizes with atomic clocks in the US, Germany, the UK, China and two in Japan based on the user's home city setting.

The Triple Sensor Version 3 Technology features a downsized direction sensor and pressure sensor for compass and altimeter/barometer readings. The benefit of the downsized sensor means it takes up only 5 percent of the space of the previous sensor and consumes only 10 percent of the energy. This coupled with an increase in continuous compass measurements from 20 seconds to 60 seconds increases the accuracy and speed with which these features monitor nature's elements and how they are utilized for high energy activities across the board.

Casio's latest PRO TREK timepiece, the PRW6000Y, has an atmospheric pressure trend alarm that alerts the users  to sudden swings in atmospheric pressure, to keep users constantly informed of the onset of rapidly changing weather conditions, which might otherwise be overlooked.  It also uses a Smart Access electronic crown and a unique fly back function in which the analog hands "fly away" from the LCD window when taking measurement readings making it the perfect easy-to-use, easy-to read, companion for outdoor adventures.
