According to Gartner, by 2016, 70 percent of the mobile workforce will have a smartphone, half of which will be purchased by the employee, and 90 percent of enterprises will have two or more platforms to support. With this massive adoption of mobile devices worldwide, enterprise developers are being challenged to create more rich and relevant mobile applications for corporate users. Ultimately the information maintained within these organizations' internal systems holds the key to creating compelling user experiences. When presented in a user-friendly format, this information can give employees, customers and partners a more personalized and relevant user experience.

For today's mobile enterprise applications to succeed, developers need secure and timely access to relevant company information and processes. Xamarin and SAP's goal is to empower developers to more easily and rapidly create cross platform mobile applications that integrate into the broad portfolio of mobile solutions from SAP as well as other back-end data sources. This is expected to enable the growing population of mobile users to have increased access to the data and processes that power their business.

Initially, the relationship will focus on the following initiatives:

--  Today Xamarin released a software development kit (SDK) that enables
developers to create native cross-platform applications capable of
easily leveraging the rich functionality and enterprise data exposed by
        SAP Mobile Platform.
--  Xamarin Test Cloud, which allows developers to perform more fully
automated testing of mobile applications across hundreds of devices
simultaneously, will have unique built-in SAP Mobile Platform data
verification capabilities to ensure mobile applications are properly
capturing and synchronizing data with SAP systems. In this way, a mobile
application's frontend and backend functionality can be simultaneously
tested to ensure stability and data integrity.
--  Xamarin has announced a certified consultant program available
immediately to Xamarin's 150 global consulting partners and SAP's
thousands of global consulting partners. This program will establish
expert resources to ensure partners can efficiently develop compelling
apps using both Xamarin and SAP solutions and will enable enterprise
customers to identify premier consulting firms with this expertise.
--  Xamarin will expand its recently launched Xamarin University to include
an expert lead course to train enterprise developers to build Xamarin
mobile apps that can connect to SAP Mobile Platform.
"Both SAP and Xamarin are committed to giving developers the tools and technology necessary to rapidly create multi-OS mobile applications for today's untethered enterprises," said Bill Clark, Global Vice President, Mobile Strategy, SAP. "The collaboration between SAP and Xamarin will enable the vibrant and rapidly growing developer community to easily integrate the rich information maintained in SAP solutions into the high performance applications that are the hallmark of Xamarin developers."

In just over two years, Xamarin has amassed a community of over 500,000 developers in 111 countries, and a network of over 150 consulting partners globally.

"Xamarin empowers developers to create great cross platform mobile applications," said Nat Friedman, CEO and cofounder, Xamarin. "We are excited to be working closely with SAP so developers can rapidly leverage the rich set of services in SAP Mobile Platform directly into their mobile apps."
