Ethernity Networks ENET 4200R SoC Delivers Unparalleled Integration of Networking and Microwave Basedband Modems

Xilinx and Ethernity team up to deliver highly integrated carrier grade packet processing and modem on single FPGA SoC

LOD, Israel, February 20, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --

Ethernity Networks Ltd, an Innovative Networking System on a Chip provider, today
announced its latest innovation for 4G/LTE microwave backhaul, the ENET4200R system on a
chip (SoC). Designed specifically to address the need for higher bandwidth in mobile
backhaul, the ENET4200R SoC delivers innovative networking technology supporting 20Gbps
switching and aggregation and combines several baseband modems and a network processor in
a single chip. During Mobile World Congress 2014 at Hall 5 Stand 5F81, Ethernity will
demonstrate a ENET4800 evaluation platform [http://www.ethernitynet.com/ENET4000RD.htm ]
embedding a Kintex(R)-7 FPGA and CPU environment equipped with ENET4200 packet processing
and traffic manager softcore (http://www.ethernitynet.com/ENET4000.htm), connected to
Xilinx' high capacity 1024QAM Microwave modem SmartCORE(TM) IP.

As the number of mobile users and use of multimedia services such as streaming video
continues to rise, mobile operators are investing in next generation mobile backhaul
networks that enable them to meet the performance and service expectations of consumers.
In order to manage this massive growth in wireless traffic and evolution of 4G/LTE
networks, microwave equipment providers need to engineer scalable and future proof
solutions for network providers. The ENET4200R will enable OEMs to leverage an all-in-one
single chip modem, packet processing and traffic management solution delivered on a
Xilinx(R) 7-series device.

"With the industry migrating more on pure IP based microwave radios, we see packet
processing becoming a mandatory part on every OEM line card," said Tarmo Pihl, Xilinx
Wireless Backhaul business director. "With integrated modem and packet processing
functions in a single FPGA, we are effectively reducing the number of components on the
PCB -- lowering power consumption and total cost of ownership for OEMs."

With enhanced radio performance and advanced networking capabilities that can trunk
several microwave modems, the ENET4200R SoC provides radio-optimized traffic delivery,
including fragment scheduling, deep buffering to support 100ms, header compression,
trunking based on EFM bonding together with a complete Carrier Ethernet Switch supporting
OAM/CFM, Provide Bridge, PBB, MPLS-TP, hierarchical scheduling and L2/L3/L4 filtering. The
ENET4200R SoC enables wireless backhaul systems to support the demanding and evolving
requirements of 4G/LTE networks.

    Availability
The Ethernity 's ENET4200 SoC and Xilinx 's 1024QAM Microwave modem IP are available
