Raritan Adds New Swappable Sensor and Mini Plug-in Sensor for Monitoring Data Center Environments

-- New tiny plug-in MINI sensor requires no cables and new swappable-sensor product measures three spots recommended by ASHRAE --

SOMERSET, N.J., Dec. 3, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Raritan, a leading provider of data center infrastructure management (DCIM) and rack power distribution solutions, today added two new sensor products that are easy and quick to deploy for monitoring temperature among racks and keeping IT equipment healthy.

Requiring no cabling, Raritan's new DPX-T1-MINI sensor measures ambient temperatures in the hot aisle side of a rack.  Similar in size to a USB stick, the tiny sensor takes only a few seconds to install because it plugs directly into the sensor port of a Raritan intelligent rack power distribution unit (iPDU).  Plugging a sensor into a Raritan iPDU -- the first with a built-in sensor port -- eliminates the need for a separate controller or cabling, which helps reduce costs and simplifies deployment.

Raritan's new four-sensor product, DPX2-T3H1, is also easy to deploy because the multiple sensors are pre-connected to one cable.  Designed to measure temperature and humidity on the cool-air inlet side of a server rack, the new combo sensor makes it easy to follow ASHRAE's (American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers) cooling guidelines for sensor placement at the top, middle and bottom of a rack.  To make maintenance easier, the DPX2-T3H1 comes with replaceable sensor heads.  If needed, a sensor can be easily swapped out for a new sensor head -- eliminating the need and cost to remove and replace the entire sensor product.

"Raritan is focused on adding intelligent monitoring to data center racks so that they can be managed more efficiently and run optimally.  It all boils down to having the right management and feedback tools to support the care and feeding of IT assets in racks," said David Wood, Director of Power Management Solutions at Raritan.  "With today's new offerings, data center managers are able to monitor temperature and humidity and to get accurate information in order to increase temperature safely and eliminate the cost of over cooling data centers.  We continue to focus on making solutions useful to data center professionals and that are easy to deploy and maintain."

A Web-based GUI enables data center managers to monitor remotely the sensors and report and plot sensor values in real time or over a period of time.  Environmental information also can be shared with DCIM solutions, such as Raritan's Power IQ® energy management software.  Sensors connect to the network by plugging into Raritan's iPDUs, which, in turn, connect to the network via Ethernet or Wi-Fi.

Raritan's sensor portfolio includes temperature, humidity, airflow, air pressure, water and contact closure, as well as asset tracking sensors.  To learn more about Raritan's environmental and infrastructure monitoring solutions, visit http://www.raritan.com/environment-management/.
