Huawei Showcases its Power Transmission and Transformation Communications Solution at WEC 2013

Building an Information Highway to Smart Grid

DAEGU, South Korea, Oct. 16, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, demonstrated its Power Transmission and Transformation Communications Solution at the World Energy Congress (WEC 2013) in Daegu, South Korea. As a world leading player of transmission networks, Huawei provides a most cost-effective transmission and transformation communications solution that accommodates global electric power companies' increasing demands for larger bandwidth.

Smart Grid uses advanced sensor and measurement technologies, devices, and decision-making support systems to achieve power grid reliability, security, and cost-effectiveness based on an efficient real-time communications network. Huawei Power Transmission and Transformation Communications Solution features long distance, large bandwidth, high reliability, and evolution capability, providing a solid foundation for smart grid construction for electric power enterprises.

In South Korea, the host country of WEC 2013, the Korea Electric Power Corporation (known as KEPCO), which captures a 93% market share of South Korea's electric industry, deployed Huawei's Power Transmission and Transformation Communications Solution when constructing the private backbone network in 2007. Huawei's solution supports smooth evolution and provides bandwidth expansion from 2.5 GB to 10 GB without changing legacy network devices to meet the requirements of KEPCO's ever growing business. So far, KEPCO has been recording zero system failure caused by device faults since its deployment of the Huawei solution six years ago, stabilizing the development of South Korea's electric industry.

At the Energy forum, Xia Youming, director of Huawei's enterprise network product line Internet of Things solutions, delivered an impressive speech entitled Huawei's Energy Network Solution. Mr. Xia introduced Huawei's Power Transmission and Transformation Communications Solution and described a wide array of networks used in different scenarios of the energy industry, including backbone transmission network, optical fiber access network, microwave supplementary network, All-IP Internet of Things, and WLAN access network. According to Mr. Xia, Huawei has been engaged in transmission and transformation communications in the energy industry for more than two decades and is capable of providing customized end-to-end solutions to address different enterprises' needs.

Huawei has successfully delivered power transmission and transformation communications projects in many countries. With deep understanding of the electric power industry and its advanced and reliable solutions, Huawei is dedicated to helping electric enterprises build a smart grid.
