Pelican Imaging to Demonstrate 3D Image and Video Capture at Qualcomm's Uplinq Conference

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Aug. 29, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Pelican Imaging, the inventor of groundbreaking array camera technology for mobile devices, will demonstrate new capabilities of its imaging platform at the Uplinq(TM) 2013 wireless ecosystem conference, which will be held Sept. 3-5, 2013 at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront Hotel. As Qualcomm's annual conference, Uplinq provides a cross-platform view of how to exploit the powerful capabilities of today's leading mobile devices to produce the most compelling user experiences and cultivate the business connections essential to be successful in mobile.

Pelican Engineering VP Purnam Sheth will be speaking at the event in two sessions: "Heterogeneous Computing in Snapdragon(TM) Processors: Make the Most of All That Power" on September 5, and a special session devoted to Pelican Imaging during Hardware Day, September 3. Representatives from Pelican will also be providing demonstrations 9am - 5:30pm at the Hardware Day Expo on September 3.

Said Pelican Imaging CEO and President Chris Pickett, "The engineering team at Pelican has developed some cutting-edge algorithms to enable 3D image and video capture. We believe there are broad applications for depth-enabled imaging, and we're looking forward to demonstrating our technology at Qualcomm's event next week."

Going beyond simple megapixel count, the Pelican array camera provides complete depth information of the captured scene, allowing users to refocus after the fact, create 3D models, and perform an unprecedented range of edits. At under 3mm thickness, Pelican's array camera is about 50% of the thickness of the best-in-class camera modules shipping in mobile phones today.
