Teleste Builds a RFoG Based FttH System for SIEA in France

TURKU, Finland, August 29, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --

    - A Significant RFoG Deployment Brings Fibre-to-the-Home for the French Energy and
E-communications Group SIEA

Teleste Corporation, an international technology group specialised in broadband video
and data communication systems and services, has been chosen to supply optical access
network equipment to SIEA (Syndicat Intercommunal d'energie et de e-communication de l'Ain
[http://www.siea.fr ]), a public body of inter-municipal cooperation that manages energy
and e-communication for the 419 municipalities included in the French eastern region of
Ain.

Teleste has won the first phase in the public tender by SIEA to bring high speed data
connections to parts of the department of Ain that have little or no access to high speed
internet. The aim is to build a public broadband network that covers more than 90% of
homes and businesses in the region by 2014. Learn more about the project Li@in (Liaison
Internet de l'Ain [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wrJ99tAj85Q&feature=player_embedded ]).

During 2013, Teleste will deliver optical access network equipment to serve a customer
basis of 45,000 potential network subscribers. The value of the first phase deployment is
approximately 2 million euros, and it also includes an option to continue equipment
deliveries during the phase 2. The estimated value of the second phase deliveries is 1,5
million euros, and it will possibly be confirmed by the end of 2013.

Teleste's advanced solution is one of first significant implementations in Europe, in
which RFoG (Radio Frequency over Glass) technology will be used to provide DOCSIS based
data services for customers in classical Fibre-to-the-Home (FttH) networks. Replacing the
coax portion of the hybrid fiber coax (HFC) network by a single-fibre passive optical
network (PON), the RFoG technology opens up new business opportunities for operators
especially in areas where coax network is not available. With the RFoG technology,
operators are able to increase network capacity in a cost-efficient way, utilizing their
existing provisioning and billing systems, as well as the traditional HFC network
equipment.
