    LaserSoft Imaging (LSI) has optimized SilverFast 8 Focus Control for high-quality
flatbed and film scanners. From version 8.0.1r24 SilverFast scanner software now works
with the most efficient Focus Control that ever existed. Its numerous settings allow to
adjust sharpness perfectly.

    In order to produce high-quality scans, some professional scanners from Epson, Nikon,
Microtek, PIE and Reflecta allow to manually adjust the focus of its scanner optics. This
implies the possibility to offset the focus up to several millimeters above or below the
regular focus level.

    Using filmholders may slightly lifts your originals, especially slide mounts are of
different thickness and also filmstrips inserted into film scanners are not always
perfectly flat. The focus may marginally vary from frame to frame. Setting an appropriate
focus leads to crisp and sharp images. All adjustments can be controlled immediately with
the Focus Control preview dialog.

    SilverFast 8 increases the Epson Expression 1640XL, 10000XL and 11000XL scanner's
performance and opens new possibilities. These scanner's have an outstanding depth of
field and a special type of lightning that casts no shadows. In combination with new
SilverFast 8 Focus Control these are the only scanners, which are able to scan
three-dimensional objects such as coins with amazing sharpness and details.
