LG Electronics' Pro:Centric Platform Delivers Industry-Leading In-Room Patient TV Solutions

Pro:Centric Enhances Opportunities for Healthcare Facilities to Save Time, Money

LINCOLNSHIRE, Ill., July 24, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- LG Electronics USA, the industry leader in healthcare display and content delivery solutions, has tailored its powerful Pro:Centric® applications platform to maximize methods of delivering personalized content to healthcare facilities, administrators, doctors, nurses and patients.

Pro:Centric technology, a standards-based applications platform designed to enable healthcare facilitators to easily communicate up-to-the-minute, personalized information, introduces new ways for healthcare management to reach its patients and guests.

For the first time in healthcare TVs, Pro:Centric now includes a free Interactive Electronic Program Guide (IEPG) data service through the end of 2017.  The Pro:Centric IEPG offers patients a TV channel guide similar to their home experience, enabling viewing and selection of their favorite programs, all from the comfort of their beds. The IEPG can also be upgraded to add the full Pro:Centric Application features to offer a customized in-room experience, including a weather app and on screen electronic information pages (Billboards) providing timely, pertinent information to guests on such things as facility procedures.

In addition to featuring personalized messaging and information, the TVs can be enabled for nurse call systems and compatible Pro:Centric enabled pillow speakers for added patient convenience. LG Electronics is making the complementary IEPG service available to all healthcare properties that have purchased Pro:Centric televisions and install a Pro:Centric server to deliver and manage the service at their property. The EPG service is independent of the satellite or cable TV provider, so it can be retained when switching between providers.

"Within the healthcare market, we've seen an increased need for advanced in-room content delivery and customization, offering new ways for facility managers to reach their patients in more cost effective ways than ever before," said Richard Lewis, senior vice president, research and technology for LG Electronics' U.S. R&D Lab, Zenith. "Giving healthcare facilitators a way to manage and customize the in-room patient experience is important in this content-driven age, and positions the interactive platform as a unique option for both facility managers and system operators."

In addition to an enhanced patient experience, healthcare facilities can benefit from the remote channel management capabilities associated with Pro:Centric servers, which save on time and labor costs associated with programming TVs in each room individually. Information that is typically featured in a printed guide can now be transitioned on screen, reducing in-room printing costs for channel lineup cards and service information guides.

Pro:Centric-enabled TVs also come equipped with Pro:Idiom®, the digital rights management system, allowing delivery of  high-value HD content in healthcare settings. This offers patients with an enhanced entertainment experience and one that is similar to what they have at home.
