LG Electronics Builds On 'ENERGY STAR® Most Efficient' Leadership In Key Product Categories

More LG TVs, Refrigerators Awarded 2013 Designation Than Any Other Brand

WASHINGTON, June 27, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- LG Electronics USA has increased the total number of consumer electronics and home appliances that are recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency as "ENERGY STAR Most Efficient" - including more television and refrigerator models than any other manufacturer to earn this coveted designation in the first half of 2013.

Underscoring the company's commitment to the ENERGY STAR program generally, more than 60 LG products across multiple categories - from televisions to refrigerators and washing machines to air conditioners - have earned the 2013 ENERGY STAR Most Efficient designation so far this year. This already exceeds the number of LG products that were recognized as Most Efficient for the full-year in 2012.

"LG was one of the few industry participants to enthusiastically endorse and promote ENERGY STAR's Most Efficient proposal and criteria when it was first introduced," said Wayne Park, president and CEO of LG Electronics USA, which is a 2013 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year. "We're proud to continue leading the industry in developing the most energy efficient products possible, while ensuring consumers don't have to sacrifice performance or style."

According to the EPA, the ENERGY STAR Most Efficient program is an initiative to help consumers easily identify the most efficient products in their categories among those that have earned the ENERGY STAR label.

Of particular interest, 51 LG televisions have been recognized as ENERGY STAR Most Efficient so far in 2013 - more than any other manufacturer in the television category and a 55 percent increase from the 33 LG TVs recognized in 2012. LG's innovative technology includes features such as the "Intelligent Sensor," which saves energy by automatically adjusting the display brightness according to the viewing environment. Also noteworthy is the fact that all 2013 LG LED TVs are ENERGY STAR certified.

Similarly, LG is leading the way in ENERGY STAR Most Efficient-designated refrigerators, with seven models recognized by the EPA in 2013. That's more than any other manufacturer, and the number is even higher if refrigerators that LG produces for other brands are counted. LG's consumer research continues to show that energy efficiency is a key consideration for appliance purchases by American consumers, which is why LG promotes both the trusted ENERGY STAR trademark and its highest level designation, ENERGY STAR Most Efficient.

Through its ongoing campaign to educate consumers, retailers, and industry about energy efficiency, LG has aggressively promoted the ENERGY STAR Most Efficient program. Because of its efforts, American consumers purchased more than 1 million LG ENERGY STAR Most Efficient qualified products in 2012, reflecting growing consumer acceptance of LG energy efficient products.

For 2013, LG is stepping up its sales training efforts to emphasize ENERGY STAR Most Efficient products and what this designation means to the growing number of consumers who share LG's passion about helping to save the planet by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and addressing climate change.
