Xi3 Corporation Unveils its FreeForm dataCENT3R Project at Interop Las Vegas 2013

Designed to showcase that "Data Centers no longer need to fit into traditional rooms and racks," the first FreeForm dataCENT3R Project features a sweeping curved design spanning nearly 8x7x2-feet in a wheeled construct capable of simultaneous support of up to 96 grapefruit-sized Xi3 Modular Computers or Xi3 microSERV3Rs in a clustered design for distributed Data Centers, mobile supercomputing, multimedia rendering and more

SALT LAKE CITY and LAS VEGAS, May 7, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Xi3( )Corporation today announced it will unveil its FreeForm(TM) dataCENT3R(TM) Project at the Interop Las Vegas trade show that starts later today at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas and runs through May 9.

Xi3's first FreeForm dataCENT3R Project is a wheeled metal structure featuring seven curved steel bars framed by two side support bars and a flat metal base. The sweeping design of this FreeForm dataCENT3R construct measures four to eight feet tall, seven feet wide and two feet deep (94.5x82.5x21.0-inches, Height-Width-Depth) and can simultaneously support from 48 to 96 Xi3(®) Modular(TM) Computers or Xi3 microSERV3Rs(TM) in a sleek, clustered deployment.

According to Dictionary.com, FreeForm is defined as "not organized or planned in a conventional way," "function(s) or evolve(s) without advance planning; spontaneous" and "without restrictions or preconceptions."

"For decades, I.T. Administrators and Professionals have been handcuffed into a paradigm that says Data Centers have to be built a certain way," said Jason A. Sullivan, Xi3 founder, President and CEO. "That is no longer the case. With the birth of the Xi3 Computer Architecture and our small, energy efficient computers and servers, Data Centers no longer need to fit into traditional rooms and racks. FreeForm dataCENT3Rs do not need special rooms and can be cooled by ambient air. We also think that with Xi3, Data Centers can now be conceived as architectural elements, as design statements, as art. We look forward to working with our customers and partners to explore and define new ways of designing Data Centers with our FreeForm dataCENT3R Project."

FreeForm dataCENT3Rs:  Enhanced Design + Form + Functionality = Better Results

Because Xi3 Modular Computers and microSERV3Rs are housed in softball-size chassis with a maximum external measurement of 4.27x3.66x3.66-inches, Xi3 and its customers can re-imagine how and where they can deploy servers or clustered computers. As shown with its initial FreeForm dataCENT3R Project, Xi3 can also distribute servers or clustered computers virtually anywhere within an organization in virtually any configuration or shape. The result is more machines in less space, either in a mobile or stationary platform, and dramatically reduced operating costs.

"FreeForm dataCENT3Rs use ambient air cooling, require less physical infrastructure per installation, and can take virtually any shape or configuration--ranging from a mural-like wall installation featuring multi-colored chassis to a FreeForm dataCENT3R shaped like a pyramid," Sullivan explained. "Xi3's FreeForm dataCENT3R construct allows organizations to have near-edge servers and data physically closer to those doing the work. Taken together, this creates better organizational load balancing, a Power Usage Effectiveness ratio (PUE) near 1.0, and a lower overall Total Cost of Ownership per FreeForm dataCENT3R installation."

Xi3 Modular Computers and Xi3 microSERV3Rs can run 64-bit, x86-based operating systems, such as Windows 8 and lower (including enterprise editions), and most Linux and UNIX OS variants. Xi3 believes its FreeForm dataCENT3R Project is an ideal candidate for organizations looking for a compact, beautifully designed solution for clustered computing challenges, including

    --  scientific modeling,
--  High Performance Computing (HPC) for mathematical computations,
        number-crunching and supercomputing,
    --  symmetric, multiprocessing (SMP) systems,
    --  Beowulf clusters,
    --  distributed data centers,
    --  Hadoop clusters,
    --  Web servers,
    --  computer game tournament systems/solutions,
    --  and more.
"Coupling Xi3's low-power consumption servers or computers with our FreeForm dataCENT3Rs creates an unbeatable combination," Sullivan said. "No other company offers I.T. pros 64-bit x86-based servers/computers that are as small or as energy efficient as Xi3 microSERV3Rs and Xi3 Modular Computers. Add into the equation Xi3's new FreeForm dataCENT3R construct and you end up with a new calculus when it comes to defining how organizations can create and deploy servers or clustered computers in new and unique settings."

Xi3's FreeForm dataCENT3R Project and other Xi3 product offerings will be on display in Booth #1359 at Interop Las Vegas 2013.
