Vision Internet's Innovative New Content Management System Enhances Local Government Efficiency, Transparency and Savings

Sheboygan County, Wis. and Burbank, Calif. Among First to Roll out Easy-to-Use Website Tools that Speed Vital Information to Citizens

SANTA MONICA, Calif., March 21, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Vision Internet, a national leader in government website development, today reported that the new version of its content management system, visionCMS(TM), pilot tested last fall and formally launched in early 2013, is receiving high marks from early adopters who are using it to expedite and streamline citizen access to local government news and information increasing transparency and saving taxpayer dollars.

Sheboygan County, Wis., the first government entity to incorporate the new website content management tools, reported that employee web related requests to the County's IT Help Desk have been reduced by nearly 80 percent since it launched its redesigned website in late January.

"Vision Internet has given us the ability to put information out there as soon as it's available," said Josh McDermott, Sheboygan County IT manager. "County employees can log into the CMS from home, work, anywhere that has Internet access, to update their departmental information and forms. It's a huge time-saver.  And because it's so easy to use, it eliminates the IT bottleneck and keeps information current for the public."

Vision Internet President Steve Chapin said the new content management features, which include responsive design, scheduled content review and an enhanced page template builder, were developed in direct response to requests from local government employees tasked with maintaining their websites.?

"Our goal is to bring cutting edge, private sector technology to local government entities in ways that make sense for them," Chapin said. "The responsive design feature of our new CMS, for example, represents a fundamental shift in the way government websites will be built in the future. Every day the number of devices, platforms and browsers that need to work with city and county websites grows. From PCs to iPads and smartphones, visionCMS automatically detects the type of device a citizen is using and changes the site's behavior accordingly. The benefits are obvious: We build a website once, and it works seamlessly across thousands of different screens."

Jennifer Wyatt, IT director for the City of Burbank, Calif., a long-time Vision Internet customer scheduled to go live with the company's new CMS in the next few weeks, said doing content updates was like a second job that added to the burden of work for some city employees.

"Keeping content fresh and updated varied greatly, depending on the workload of the departments," she said. "In this day and age, it's all about getting the right information into the hands of the citizens as quickly as possible and Vision Internet's new CMS will help us do that."

The new visionCMS allows individual city departments to set up their own content review reminders on a weekly, monthly or quarterly basis, streamlining the process for updates and ensuring the latest information is always available to citizens.

Another feature appreciated by early adopters of the new visionCMS is the cost-effective page template builder, which allows users to create customized page layouts using their own combinations of content and placement of components without having to go back to Vision Internet for additional services.

"Our website is an important tool for reaching our citizens," said Burbank's Wyatt. "It's part of our brand. We want to encourage people to be creative but it's important to have a consistent theme throughout the site. Vision Internet's template builder lets us control usage to master users to ensure that a common thread runs throughout our design."?

Other features valued by new users of visionCMS are drag and drop technology and integrated social media tools.

"Vision Internet is ahead of the curve," said McDermott of Sheboygan. "The functionality we receive for the price is excellent. We had our website completely redesigned, received a CMS that makes us more efficient, we have a mobile website and employee access via an extranet, all for less than some other companies wanted for a redesign alone."

Vision Internet's system is built upon standard Microsoft ASP.NET and SQL Server technology. The company provides a variety of maintenance and service plans, including visionLive(TM) which provides hosting, unlimited support, upgrades, future visionCMS components and a free website redesign every four years for one set monthly fee.
