Innovations for a world in motion from Nokia Siemens Networks at #MWC13

BARCELONA, Spain, Feb. 22, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Mobile World Congress -- Leading up to the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2013, Nokia Siemens Networks has launched a series of new products, upgrades and services that can help operators deliver a gigabyte of personalized data, per user, per day, profitably. Along with the recently launched innovations, other groundbreaking technologies, including a fundamentally different way for operators to deliver content, will be on show at the company's Experience Center at MWC 2013 in Barcelona next week.

With mobile traffic expected to grow up drastically, operators need to flexibly grow capacity, optimize their mix of technology and use of spectrum, and allocate their resources where they are needed the most. They also need to significantly increase capacity in high-traffic areas by adding small cells to complement their macro network.

Nokia Siemens Networks will demonstrate how operators can use its new Flexi Zone innovations to solve street level small cell deployment challenges. Operators can address these issues by introducing steerable and resilient street level backhaul, utilizing new small cell network planning capabilities that leverage application data from social networks for more accurate small cell deployments, and balancing the load or shifting capacity between macro and small cell layers to address the 'ebb and flow' of traffic created by subscribers' movements across the network to provide optimum HetNet performance at all times.

Also as part of its small cells offering, Nokia Siemens Networks will exhibit its new indoor enterprise and public HSPA+ and LTE Femtocells. Another way to add capacity is to use unlicensed spectrum, which Nokia Siemens Networks guest Smart Wi-Fi will use to allow visitors to the company stand to experience how easy-to-use and secure operator controlled Smart Wi-Fi can be as part of a HetNet environment.

In a world where smartphone and tablet users consume more and more data, operators need to look at ways of putting their existing resources to better use. In a live demonstration using Qualcomm prototype test devices, Nokia Siemens Networks will showcase how operators can get more out of their 900 MHz re-farmed GSM spectrum with Dual Band-Dual Cell HSPA+ that enables higher data rates of up to 42 Mbps (megabits per second).

Even voice will become data. To be able to take full advantage of LTE, operators need to provide IMS-based high definition VoLTE with additional rich services. Nokia Siemens Networks will be showing a VoLTE call running both on a commercially available network and on a virtualized IMS and TAS (telecommunication application server) core applications while showing how virtualized Liquid Core is managed.

As the underlying network becomes increasingly complex, Nokia Siemens Networks provides a suite of products and services to simplify operations. The company will demonstrate how the SON (self organizing network) Operations Manager, powered by Nokia Siemens Networks' Operations on Demand, provides detailed views, control, coordination and prioritization for all simultaneously active SON functions while protecting packet core network from load peaks and potentially saving up to 30% in total cost of ownership expenditure.

In a world where demand moves towards #1GBperday$, operators need to provide a superior customer experience for a steadily growing mobile broadband customer base. At the event, Nokia Siemens Networks will show how operators can differentiate mobile broadband services by using new CEM capabilities - now also for LTE - by correlating network information with device type, over the top (OTT) services and subscriber data in real time. This allows operators to prioritize actions to proactively solve network issues, and ensure both service quality and positive customer experience.

Nokia Siemens Networks will top off the launches by extending its 'Liquid Net' approach by giving mobile base stations an entirely new role in the communications ecosystem and changing the game in content delivery.

For more information about the launches and demos, visit us at Mobile World Congress, Hall 3, Booth 3B14, where visitors can get postcards of themselves with CEM insight and action examples. If you are not attending the event, take a virtual tour of the Experience Center and join the #1GBperday$ webinar series starting on March 6, 2013. Registration for the series is open now: http://www.nokiasiemensnetworks.com/1GBperday. Nokia Siemens Networks media and analyst briefing will be held at Hesperia Towers, Gran Via 144, Barcelona at 18:30 CET on Sunday, February 24. The briefing is for accredited journalists and industry analysts only.
