Qualcomm Modems Enable Connectivity on Next-Generation Computing Platforms

-- Industry-leading Qualcomm Gobi Wireless Technology Powers 3G/4G LTE Connectivity on Windows 8 and Windows RT Devices --

CHICAGO, Oct. 29, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. , a wholly owned subsidiary of Qualcomm Incorporated (NASDAQ: QCOM) today highlighted the leading role its Qualcomm Gobi(TM) wireless modems play in delivering fast, reliable and seamless 3G and 4G/LTE connectivity to mobile computing devices built on and designed for Windows 8 and Windows RT. Compatible with the USB-IF Mobile Broadband Interface Model (MBIM), which allows for easy integration by PC OEMs, Qualcomm Gobi embedded solutions enable fast connectivity, improved power efficiency and smaller designs - and can be found in a host of Windows 8/RT-based computing products from Dell, Lenovo and Samsung, and in embedded wireless modules from Huawei, Option, Sierra Wireless and ZTE.

Additionally, Qualcomm Gobi solutions support flexible, prepaid data plans for global 3G and 4G/LTE connectivity for an always-on, always-connected experience.

"Qualcomm Gobi modems have set the standard for mobile broadband connectivity across a wide range of devices and continue to drive solutions for emerging mobile trends such as thin, ultra-portable computing devices and new pay-as-you-go data options," said Fram Akiki, senior director of product management at QTI. "We are committed to enabling the fastest mobile connections worldwide and are pleased to have Qualcomm Gobi technology supporting Windows 8 and Windows RT devices."

Qualcomm Gobi modems, products of QTI, are the industry's premier embedded wireless solutions and have been implemented in hundreds of laptops, tablets and other portable computing devices since 2008. Qualcomm Gobi's first-generation 4G/LTE chipset, the MDM9x00, delivered the world's first integrated LTE/3G modem and has been shipping to customers for more than a year. Embedded mobile computing OEMs are transitioning to Qualcomm Gobi's second-generation 4G/LTE chipset, the MDM9x15, which enables lower power and smaller devices. Qualcomm Gobi's third-generation LTE solution, the MDM9x25, is an LTE Advanced solution that supports LTE carrier aggregation and LTE Category 4 with peak data rates of up to 150 Mbps.

"At Dell, our customers lead the way and consumer and business users alike want anytime, anywhere access to data and applications," said Brett McAnally, executive director, End User Computing, Dell. "Qualcomm Gobi technology is planned to power a variety of notebooks and tablets across our latest product portfolio. These systems will also feature optional Dell NetReady mobile broadband to enable on-the-go users to connect when and where they want."

"We're excited to offer the latest Qualcomm Gobi technology in the ThinkPad Tablet 2," said Dilip Bhatia, vice president at Lenovo. "The ThinkPad Tablet 2 offers industry leading mobility allowing business professionals to stay connected and be productive anywhere. Gobi 4G LTE modems help make this possible."

"We look forward to offering our connected device customers the most advanced mobile broadband connectivity through Qualcomm Gobi 4G LTE technology," said David Song, senior vice president of PC sales and marketing for Samsung Electronics. "The always-on, always-connected experience is increasingly important for today's mobile and computing products, and Qualcomm Gobi connectivity enables access to the fastest networks worldwide."

"We are excited to be working closely with QTI to offer Qualcomm Gobi-based embedded products to customers building for Windows 8 and Windows RT," said He Jinjun, director of mobile broadband solutions at Huawei. "Qualcomm Gobi's multimode connectivity, performance and efficiency add value to our customers worldwide."

"We have been using Qualcomm Gobi products for years and are pleased to be extending that relationship to our customers building Windows 8 and Windows RT-based devices," said Bernard Schaballie, general manager embedded solutions at Option. "Qualcomm Gobi 4G/LTE connectivity is built into our third-generation GTM801U LGA module and enables an improved footprint and greater power efficiency for integration in thin form factor mobile computing products."

"Qualcomm Gobi technology adds tremendous value to our products by enabling seamless connectivity across networks," said Dan Schieler, senior vice president, mobile computing for Sierra Wireless. "We're pleased to be bringing our Qualcomm Gobi-based solutions to PC OEM customers building the next generation of mobile computing devices."

"As an industry leader in mobile broadband, and a long-time licensee of Qualcomm technology, we are excited to be incorporating Qualcomm Gobi modems in our latest product portfolio," said Dr. Liu Shu Liang, director of MBB product planning at ZTE. "Our deep engineering experience and MBB design capabilities enable us to develop the very best Qualcomm Gobi-based products for our laptop and tablet customers worldwide."
