Trimble Introduces New DSS 500 with In-FlightOrtho Map Production and Quality Control for Aerial Mapping

Deliver Products to Customers Faster and For Less Cost with Real-Time Ortho-Production and "Air-to-Ground" Quality Assurance

HANNOVER, Germany, Oct. 9, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Trimble (NASDAQ:TRMB) introduced today its latest medium-format, directly georeferenced aerial imaging system, the TrimbleĀ® DSS 500. Capable of producing full-resolution, ortho-rectified imagery in real time with In-FlightOrtho(TM) technology, the Trimble Digital Sensor System(DSS) is designed as a high-productivity, mapping-grade solution for color orthophoto and vertical mapping applications.

The announcement was made today at INTERGEO 2012, the world's largest conference on geodesy, geoinformatics and land management.

"The DSS 500 with In-FlightOrtho pushes the limits of efficiency like no other medium-format aerial mapping system," said Joe Hutton, director of Airborne Products at Applanix, a Trimble Company. "The DSS 500's ability to produce full-resolution, orthorectified imagery as it is captured makes it an ideal solution for air-to-ground quality control and time-critical mapping. Watching the orthos produced in real time gives users extremely high levels of confidence in their data collection. And now with significantly smaller, lighter, lower power and less complex hardware--just three cables are required for most installations--aerial mapping has never been easier, faster or more efficient. It is the most advanced Digital Sensor System that we have ever produced."

The DSS 500 system uses hardware and software designed to make mapping fast and efficient. Capable of producing highly accurate orthophotos, stereo photos and mosaics, the DSS 500 is a flexible platform that can be customized to meet a variety of needs and price points. With multiple camera options, the system is ideal for a variety of data collection needs ranging from corridor and GIS mapping to disaster response and tactical mapping.

The DSS 500 is available as a turnkey system or in OEM board set form for custom integrations through the Applanix worldwide sales channel. The DSS 500 is also fully compatible with the Trimble INPHO photogrammetric software.
