The highest court in the US will hear a arguements that P2P filesharing companies should be responsible for the things that are traded on the networks. This is bad news if they agree with the findings. Say goodbye to P2P. At the heart of this is the Sony-Betamax case, the one that said why VHS tapes and recorders were legal.

Lower court judges ultimately said that the companies did not directly control what happens on their networks, and that their software could be used for legal purposes. That shields the companies themselves from legal responsibility for the actions of their users, the lower courts said.
