Passbook Now Available for Four MLB Clubs

MLBAM expands mobile ticketing options for fans with Passbook support; Giants, Mets, Red Sox and Royals are first sports teams to use Passbook

NEW YORK, Sept. 19, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- MLB Advanced Media, L.P. (MLBAM), the interactive media and Internet company of Major League Baseball, today launched support for Passbook for four Major League Clubs, making it the first professional sports league to offer fans this new mobile ticketing option enabled by iOS 6. The San Francisco Giants, New York Mets, Boston Red Sox and Kansas City Royals will offer this feature for the remainder of their regular season home dates in 2012.

With Passbook, fans may receive and store their digital tickets after completing a purchase via MLB.com or the official Club websites, including the mobile web, or through the MLB.com At Bat or At The Ballpark mobile apps. MLBAM also will automatically display the digital ticket from Passbook on the device's lock screen as a day-of-game reminder.

"The Passbook app will be a great option for baseball fans to store their tickets on their iPhones," said Adam Ritter, SVP, Wireless, MLBAM. "Building from Tickets.com's open technology, we are able to seamlessly integrate the fans' purchasing experiences, allowing them to utilize Passbook as an efficient, secure and convenient option."

MLB tickets via the Passbook platform will include customary information such as game date, opponent, time, section, row and seat.

Passbook functionality is the latest mobile ticketing initiative MLBAM and its wholly-owned subsidiary, Tickets.com, have made available to fans. MLBAM introduced technology to facilitate the delivery of tickets to mobile devices during the 2007 season, when fans could have their tickets delivered straight to a mobile phone via text message.
