FCCLA Partners with AT&T to End Texting While Driving

RESTON, Va., Aug. 15, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) recognizes that cellular devices have become integral in interpersonal communication.  Texting is one of the most popular forms of communication for teenagers today.  With the rise of text messaging, there has been an equally sharp increase in the number of accidents resulting from distracted driving.

Texting while driving is dangerous.  Therefore, we stand with AT&T as they expand their "It Can Wait" campaign to discourage all drivers, but particularly young people, that no text message is worth the damages it can cause.

We recommend that teenagers and their parents visit the website http://www.itcanwait.com to take a pledge to drive safely and put the phone away while driving.  By working as a family, we can spread the word about the risks of texting and driving.

Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA), is a dynamic and effective national student organization that helps young men and women become leaders and address important personal, family, work, and societal issues through Family and Consumer Sciences education. FCCLA has over 200,000 members and over 6,500 chapters from 50 state associations, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands. The organization has involved more than ten million youth since its founding in 1945.

FCCLA: The Ultimate Leadership Experience is unique among youth organizations because its programs are planned and run by members.  It is the only career and technical in-school student organization with the family as its central focus.  Participation in national programs and chapter activities helps members become strong leaders in their families, careers, and communities.
