Scintera Announces 3rd Generation RF Predistortion Linearizer

SC1894 features improved correction, extended frequency range and new functionality to address cellular, microwave and broadcast infrastructure applications

SUNNYVALE, Calif., June 11, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Scintera Networks, Inc., a leading provider of mixed signal semiconductors for wireless communications, today announced the availability of the SC1894 third generation system-on-chip (SoC) adaptive RF Power Amplifier Linearizer (RFPAL). Based on broadly adopted and field-proven technology, the SC1894 extends the capability and performance of Scintera's power amplifier (PA) linearization solutions to further simplify and facilitate the design of RF transmitters found in, for example, small cells, repeaters, microwave P2P and terrestrial broadcast systems.

"The SC1894 expands Scintera's linearization platform to include new features commonly found in RF transmitter systems such as PA gate biasing, RF power measurements and temperature sensor," said Davin Lee, chief executive officer of Scintera.  "With improved linearization over previous RFPAL generations and the addition of these new features, the SC1894 will enable designers to further reduce system cost, power consumption, size and design cycle time. Scintera is ideally positioned to benefit from the accelerating deployment of cellular heterogeneous networks and from other markets with similar design challenges including microwave P2P, TV white space and digital terrestrial broadcast."

The SC1894 can increase the efficiency of the final stage RF PA up to four times while still meeting system linearity requirements and allows designers to more easily meet stringent regulatory requirements. The SC1894 provides improved correction over previous generations of RFPAL and new features including temperature-compensated gate biasing, dual RF power measurement, temperature sensor, and quad-ADCs/quad-DACs that, for example, can be used to measure the output of an RF reverse power detector or the drain current of the final stage PA.  The SC1894 enables designers to deliver future-proof and highly integrated systems in a timely manner while also being able to reduce system size, power consumption and cost.  The SC1894 is a highly flexible RFin/RFout solution supporting Class A/AB or Doherty RF PA designs with maximum output power (at antenna) from 0.25 W and up, operating frequency from 168 MHz to 4200 MHz and signal bandwidth from 25 kHz to 60 MHz.

The SC1894 is packaged in a standard 64-pin, 9 x 9 mm QFN package enabling the implementation of the entire predistortion and linearization solution in less than 6 cm(2) of board space. The compact system solution is easily integrated directly into the most restricted form factors including PA modules.

International Microwave Symposium (IMS2012)

Scintera will be demonstrating solutions utilizing the SC1894 at the upcoming IEEE MTT-S International Microwave Symposium in Montreal, Canada, booth #208, June 19-21, 2012.

Availability

The SC1894 is available in pre-production quantities now and will be available in mass production quantities in the fourth quarter of 2012.

About Scintera
Scintera is an industry leader in delivering high performance, compact and very low-power system-on-chip solutions to measure, modify and monitor RF signals and systems. The company's programmable analog signal processing architecture effectively combines digital programmability with the simplicity, small size and low power consumption of analog circuit processing. The first products to leverage this innovative architecture are its family of adaptive RF predistortion linearizers. Scintera's RF power amplifier linearizers (RFPAL) have achieved broad acceptance in the cellular infrastructure and digital terrestrial broadcast markets. Wide deployment in the field has proven that RFPAL can dramatically increase system efficiency and reduce costs in existing applications and is now also enabling novel high performance, cost sensitive and very compact 4G cellular systems. Scintera is privately held and is headquartered in Sunnyvale, California. For further information, please visit http://www.scintera.com.
