Indiana's Mission for College and Career Ready Graduates will Receive Boost from Innovative Blended Learning Model

INDIANAPOLIS, May 2, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The Carpe Diem Meridian Campus will open its doors for the 2012-2013 school year, advancing Indiana's mission to prepare high school students for college and careers.  Carpe Diem Online, a purely virtual schooling option, will also launch in time for the upcoming school year giving students state-wide access to the same rigorous and engaging course curriculum as will be offered at the Meridian campus.

The Carpe Diem approach is unique integrating proven instructional strategies with the latest technology to offer individualized education and customized career and college pathways.  This model drives academic achievement in a blended (Carpe Diem Meridian) or virtual learning environment (Carpe Diem Online).

The Indiana Charter School Board approved six Carpe Diem Schools.  Carpe Diem's expansion into Indiana supports Governor Mitch Daniels' and the Indiana Department of Education's focus on educational choices.  It also affirms the Governor's efforts to position Indiana as the vanguard of education reform.

Carpe Diem Schools will provide students and parents with a high-performance option to traditional schools, bringing the proven educational model of Carpe Diem Collegiate High School in Yuma, Arizona to Indiana.  The Yuma campus has received recognition for innovation and performance including:

--  Student performance that is higher than other local and state schools,
with 94% proficiency and 36% advanced performance average on state and
        math reading tests
--  Being named "Among America's Best High Schools" in 2010 by US News &
        World Report and BusinessWeek
--  Receiving  2011 "Spotlight on Success Award" by Arizona Department of
Education for leveraging technology to boost student achievement
"We are thrilled for the opportunity to apply the proven success of our unique learning model to students in Indianapolis," said Rick Ogston, Founder and CEO of Carpe Diem Schools.  "Our success in Arizona shows we are a national education model to emulate, and importantly, a model that can be replicated state by state, in large part due to the scalability and efficiency that is supported by technology-backed curriculum."

Ogston continued, "Students across Indiana will gain access to our rigorous online curriculum, enabling them to enter college well prepared and to compete effectively in a global workplace.  Bolstered by the success of our students, Carpe Diem looks forward to its role in elevating Indiana's reputation and position as a leader of reform."
