E2020 Inc. Releases Suite of Common Core Courses

Innovative Curriculum to Better Prepare America's Students for College, Careers

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., April 19, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- E2020 Inc., one of the fastest-growing providers of online learning solutions, announced today the release of an innovative suite of courses designed to meet the demands of the Common Core State Standards (CCSS).

The Common Core State Standards initiative was led by the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) and the National Governors Association (NGA). It represents a first-of-its-kind collaboration among states to develop a shared set of rigorous standards to prepare America's students for college or career. The Standards are based upon input from teachers, content experts, existing state standards, and educational leaders, as well as feedback from the general public.

"From our earliest days, e2020 has been known for delivering rigorous and interactive curriculum. Requirements of the Common Core State Standards - conceptual understanding, mathematical modeling, performance tasks, nonfiction reading, and argumentative writing - are essential parts of our new Common Core courses," said Sari Factor, CEO of e2020. "We've also integrated new tools to support the concept building and analysis that is integral to the Common Core."

The Common Core courses integrate best-in-class tools to engage students in conceptual development and critical thinking. To support the kind of close reading prescribed by the Common Core, e2020 is proud to release the Close Reader(TM). This robust toolset, powered by Texthelp's SpeechStream, provides embedded read-aloud capability with synchronous dual-color highlighting, a talking dictionary, and study annotation pens to improve comprehension and analysis. Interactive text and audio supports within the text allow students at all reading levels and language abilities to access grade-level reading selections.

Additional mathematics interactives are embedded within the instruction and activities to support conceptual development and mathematical modeling. An online graphing calculator, developed by Desmos, enhances the learning experience for upper grades.

This year's new course suite represents the first step in a multi-year Common Core transition plan. Explained Factor, "Like our district partners, e2020 will transition to Common Core in a phased approach. Today, we are launching fully aligned Common Core courses for all grades. Future releases will infuse additional tasks and assessments specifically designed to prepare students for the new assessments that are expected to launch in 2014."
