Microsemi Announces Availability of Solid State Drive with Unique Ruggedized SATA Connectors

New Connector Family Designed for Harsh Operating Environments

ALISO VIEJO, Calif., April 9, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Microsemi Corporation (Nasdaq: MSCC), a leading provider of semiconductor solutions differentiated by power, security, reliability and performance, today announced the availability of its ultra secure TRRUST-Stor(TM) solid state drive with a unique, ruggedized SATA connector designed to solve severe shock and vibration issues prevalent in defense and industrial applications. Designed in partnership with Hypertronics Corporation, a leading provider of high-performance interconnect systems, the new connectors are designed for operation in hostile environments where industry-standard SATA connectors are inadequate.

"The weakest link in many embedded applications is the connector, which can sabotage the operation of critical hardware," said BJ Heggli, vice president of Strategic Development and assistant general manager for Microsemi. "Our new connector family protects against the effects of severe shock and vibration, which safeguards the flow of data. As a result, we can now offer customers what is perhaps the most secure and rugged SSD available on the market."

Charles Leader, vice president and general manager for Microsemi, added, "The addition of a highly ruggedized SATA connector to our secure solid state drive line is further evidence of Microsemi's commitment to provide leading edge ruggedization and security solutions to the marketplace."

About the New TRRUST-Stor SATA Connectors
A unique contact and pin design eliminates pin fretting and intermittent disconnects to assure long-term dependability. Offered in several form factors, from board-mount to cable sets, the connector family provides a complete vibration-resistant solution for products where solid performance and zero downtime are key requirements.

The extended environment connectors are designed with 50 percent lower contact resistance than conventional designs and provide a minimum of 100,000 insertions with little to no performance degradation. Mating connectors are available in right angle, vertical and cable set configurations, supporting SATA rates up to six gigabits per second (Gb/s). The cable mount version of the connector includes a quarter-turn latching mechanism that simplifies installation and assures a reliable long-term connection.

Microsemi has full design, manufacture and test capabilities for a wide variety of multiple component packages (MCPs), commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) memory, microprocessors and combination MCPs for demanding applications. These microelectronic products can also be ruggedized and processed for tamper resistance. All devices are subjected to extensive environmental and temperature testing.

Microsemi's facility in Phoenix, Ariz. is a DoD Trusted Source and is DMEA accredited for assembly and test. Its quality and inspection system requirements are certified to MIL-PRF-38534 Class H and K, MIL-PRF-38535 Class B, ISO 9001:2008 and AS9100. For more information, call 602-437-1520.
